The information within this guide must be used in conjunction with the information in the Volkswagen Owner’s Manual. You should refer to your vehicle Owners Manual and Infotainment supplement for all information, warnings, and feature limitations. Always pay careful attention to the road and do not drive while distracted. Some Infotainment features can only be accessed and operated when the vehicle is standing still.

Introduction to Your Arteon

  1. Steering Wheel Left Side Controls
    Buttons for operating the Cruise Control or Adaptive Cruise Control* and Driver Assistance features. Volume settings for radio, navigation system notifications, and phone calls. You can slide your finger or press on each side to increase or decrease volume.

  2. Steering Wheel Right Side Controls

    • Voice Control Button: Activates the Voice Recognition system. A short press activates the Volkswagen Voice Recognition system. A long press will activate Voice recognition to a paired phone. 3
    • VIEW VIEW Button: For vehicles with a Digital Cockpit,* it switches between wide and standard display.
    • OK Button: Used to select settings for features in the instrument cluster display.
    • Horizontal Menu Buttons: Used to navigate through the instrument cluster main menus.
    • Vertical Arrow Buttons: Push to navigate inside a specific menu.
    • Horizontal Arrow Buttons: Slide your finger or press on either side to change radio stations, scroll through radio presets, or select the next or previous media track.
  3. USB-C Port
    USB Type C ports , located in the center storage console, allows you to connect your mobile phone to your Arteon using the latest generation of USB. To utilize USB Type C, you must have a compatible cable. To find a cable that converts your phone’s charging port to a USB Type C connector, click here.

  4. Wireless Charging
    Can charge a Qi-capable mobile phone without the need to plug in. Simply place it securely in the center of the surface with the display facing up. An alert in the Infotainment system display indicates when charging begins.

  5. Windshield Wiper and Washer Lever
    Intermittent/Low/High functions are activated with up-clicks of the stalk. Intermittent rain-sensing wiper speed is controlled with the switch on top of the stalk that adjusts the level of the sensor’s sensitivity. Pull the stalk toward the steering wheel to wash. Press the stalk down for a single wipe.

  6. Infotainment
    Touch-sensitive icons control the various Infotainment functions, including radio, media selections, App-Connect functions, phone operation, vehicle functions and the optional Navigation system.

  7. Start-Stop System
    When activated, the engine shuts off automatically when the vehicle comes to a stop, such as at traffic lights. The engine will restart when the brake is released. Start-Stop automatically activates when the ignition is switched on, and the button indicator light will remain off. If deactivated, the indicator light will illuminate. Start-Stop only works when conditions are met, e.g., driver’s seat belt is fastened, doors and hood are closed, sufficient battery charge, etc. Some conditions will cause a restart of the engine, such as the steering wheel being turned or when the A/C is activated. During an engine stop, if the driver leaves the vehicle longer than 30 seconds, the ignition will switch off.

  8. Digital Cockpit
    Allows you to customize the presentation of vehicle information in the instrument cluster. The VIEW button on the steering wheel toggles between view options. The display can be personalized using the Infotainment system controls. Select CAR > Settings > Instrument Cluster.

  9. Remote Start (not shown)
    If your vehicle is equipped, the engine can be started from outside the vehicle with the Remote Start feature, allowing the HVAC system to heat or cool the interior. On your key fob, press the Lock button , then the Remote Start button twice . Pressing the Remote Start button three times will cancel the remote start.

  10. Auto Hold
    When the vehicle is stationary, Auto Hold secures the vehicle from rolling away without having to hold the vehicle with the brake pedal. Auto Hold is activated when a yellow LED light illuminates on the button and remains switched on after the ignition is turned on again.

  11. Control Center
    The infotainment system features a Control Center to add your favorite and frequently used functions for easy access and view notifications. At the top of the screen, tap the selection and swipe down to open. To personalize, tap and hold the function and move to the preferred location and release.

Driver Assistance Features

Activate Cruise Control or Adaptive Cruise Control*

  • Depending on vehicle equipment.

Locate the Cruise Control buttons on the left side of the multi-function steering wheel.

  • Press the button to activate Cruise Control or Adaptive Cruise Control depending on vehicle equipment.
  • A speedometer icon   will appear in the instrument cluster display.

Set Cruising Speed

  1. When you get to your cruising speed, press the SET button on the multi-function steering wheel.

  2. A green cruise control indicator light will illuminate in the instrument cluster display.

  3. To increase/decrease the speed by 1 mph increments, press the+ or – button.

  4. To increase/decrease the speed by 5 mph increments, press and hold the+ or – button.

  5. Cancel and Resume
    To cancel the cruise speed, press the brake pedal or press the    button once on the multi-function steering wheel.

  6. The green CRUISE indicator light will go off. Your last selected speed stays in memory until you turn off the ignition or turn Cruise Control off.

  7. To resume your set speed, press the RES button on the multi-function steering wheel.

Turning Cruise Control System Off

  • Press twice.

Adaptive Cruise Control Distance Level Setting
This feature is not a substitute for attentive driving. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) helps maintain an individually stored constant speed and a previously set distance between your vehicle and those in front of you. When you approach a slower moving vehicle in front of you, the vehicle may brake if the situation requires. When the vehicle is no longer present, ACC will accelerate back to the stored speed. You can set the speed-dependent distance from the vehicle ahead to one of five levels.

  • To change the ACC distance interval, press the  button to cycle through the distance intervals until you reach your desired distance level. When the shortest interval is reached, the distance returns to the greatest interval when the button is pressed again.

Travel Assist System
When activated, Travel Assist provides steering, braking, and acceleration support to the driver at the same time while also keeping your vehicle centered in the lane. Travel Assist can also maintain a constant distance to vehicles in front which is selected by the driver. The driver must maintain supervision as the Travel Assist system is not an autonomous feature.

To enable Travel Assist:

  1. Press the button on the multi-function steering wheel to activate Adaptive Cruise Control.
  2. Press the   button to switch from Adaptive Cruise Control to Travel Assist.
  3. Press the SET button on the steering wheel at the desired speed.
  4. To cancel the Travel Assist, press the brake pedal or press the button on the steering wheel.
  5. To resume Travel Assist, press the RES button on the steering wheel.

Deactivating Adaptive Cruise Control
To deactivate Adaptive Cruise Control, and use Conventional Cruise Control:

  1. Press the button. Depending on the vehicle equipment, it may be – on the steering wheel or at the end of the turn signal stalk.
  2. Using the vertical menu buttons on the steering wheel, scroll to Speed.
  3. Select Cruise Control in the Digital Cockpit then press the button.

Adaptive Cruise Control is now deactivated, and your vehicle will maintain the set speed using conventional cruise control, until the next ignition cycle.

Assistance System Setting
If your vehicle is equipped with Driver Assistance features, you can access the Assistance system settings menu in the Infotainment system, allowing you to modify the Driver Assistance feature operation.

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the Assist Syst. icon on the display.
  3. Touch the image that represents the feature.
    OR
    Touch to access Assistance system settings.

Disabling Park Distance Control Audible Tone

The audible tone from the Park Distance Control System can be disabled by pressing the button on the center console. The warning will reactivate automatically when the reverse gear is engaged or the button is pressed again.

Discover Media Touchscreen Navigation System

  1. On the touchscreen, press the NAV icon.
  2. Select the search icon .
  3. Begin entering a Point of Interest (POI) or address information with the House number, Street, and City.
  4. When your search address or POI appears in the drop-down suggestion bar, select the correct address on the screen.

Applies to vehicles equipped with Navigation. When entering an address for another state, use only the two-character abbreviation for the state. Entering a destination on the touchscreen or changing any settings can only be done when the vehicle is stationary.

Additional Settings
With Route Options you can:

  • If available, choose between 3 alternative routes by pressing the route info panel where the most recommended route is highlighted in blue.
  • Use Dynamic route guidance* if online traffic is available.

Before starting your route:

  • Route criteria can be modified by tapping .

After starting your route:

  • Modifications to the current route such as avoiding tolls or seasonal restricted roads are possible by tapping  .
  • Route criteria can also be modified by tapping  and selecting

Requires paid subscription, vehicle to be equipped with the Ml83 Infotainment system with navigation, acceptance of Wv Car-Net Terms of Service, active data plan, vehicle cellular and GPS connectivity.

Point of Interest (POI)
To find a specific point of interest:

  1. Press the NAV icon. Then press on the touchscreen to open the keyboard function to search POis.

  2. Search for your desired POI i.e., airport.

  3. Select Start to begin route guidance.
    OR

  4. Press the NAV icon, then select a POI currently displayed on the map (this is great for finding nearby fueling stations).

  5. Select Start to begin route guidance.

Cancel Active Route Guidance

  1.  Press Stop Route Guidance directly.
    OR

  2. Select Menu icon – on the touchscreen.

  3. Select the Stop Route Guidance.

Alternative Navigation
Turn-by-turn directions are also available by mirroring your favorite smartphone app to your Infotainment screen. Using the maps app on your device, you can connect to Volkswagen App-Connect by using a manufacturer-approved cable to your vehicle’s USB-C port or connect wirelessly if available.

Car-Net Plus Navigation
Subscribe to Car-Net Plus Navigation to make navigation even smarter with real-time information. Keep up-to-date with practical details such as online traffic information, route calculations, and map updates. Constantly updated data provides you with useful information and ensures the best possible route to your destination. Requires activation of VW Car-Net during my VW enrollment.

  • Availability is subject to your mobile network provider’s network coverage. Requires additional paid subscription.

Climatronic System

Heating and Air Conditioning

  • To cool or warm the occupant compartment automatically, tap the AUTO button to turn the system on.
  • Adjust the driver’s temperature to your preferred setting by touching the slider on either side, or sliding your finger toward the hot or cold ends.
  • Tap the SYNC button to synchronize the temperatures between the zones. If there is a large temperature difference between the two zones, it may hamper the system’s ability to quickly cool the interior.

Defrost/Defog 5

  1. Press the button. It is recommended to set the temperature setting to HI for the quickest defrosting/ defogging.
  2. The A/C function comes on automatically and it is recommended to leave A/Con to dry the air.
  3. When the windshield is clear, press the AUTO button.

Note: In the event of significant fogging, opening a window briefly can help.

SYNC 2

  1. Select your preferred temperature using the left temperature slider.
  2. Adjust the fan speed and vents if necessary.
  3. Press the SYNC button. The light inside the button will illuminate showing it is active. In the SEL Premium trim, press the MENU button on the HVAC control panel, then select SYNC in the Infotainment display.
  4. The driver’s settings will be applied to the passenger and rear climate zones.

Air Distribution 5

The Air Distribution button directs air to either the floor, panel or defrost vents or a combination of vents. Tapping the icon multiple times toggles through the different airflow settings.

AUTO 6
AUTO automatically regulates and maintains the desired compartment temperature.

  1. Turn the driver-side temperature by touching the slider on either side to the desired temperature.
  2. Press the AUTO button if it is not already illuminated.

Seat Heating 5
The operating status of the seat heating is shown in colors. At the highest heating level, all three LEDs come on .

  • To warm up quickly on a cool morning, press the button for seat heating.

Seat Ventilation 5

Seat ventilation is available on SEL premium models when equipped.

  • To cool down quickly in warm weather, press the button for seat ventilation.

OFF 6
Press the OFF button to turn off the HVAC system. Or, in the SEL Premium trim:

  1. Tap the MENU button on the climatic system.

Seats/ Trunk Operation

Driver and Front Passenger Electric Seat Controls
Your vehicle is equipped with electronic controls for the front seats. The driver and passenger seat will have a set of controls located on the sideboard of their seats.

  1. Slides the seat forward or back.
  2. Adjust the backrest angle.
  3. Raise or lowers the seat cushion.
  4. Adjust the 4-way lumbar support.
  5. Adjust the seat cushion angle.
Power Memory Seats

Memory Seat Controls

  1. Adjust the driver’s seat and outside mirror positions to your liking.
  2. Press and release the SET button.
  3. If equipped, press and hold the Memory button 1, 2 or 3 until the chime sounds.

Note: Memory seat and massage features are available on select trim lines and may vary depending on vehicle equipment. Driver-side massage feature available on the SEL Premium model only. Memory Seat control feature available on SEUSEL Premium models. Memory seat buttons are located on the driver side.

Recalling Stored Memory Settings

  • With the vehicle stopped and the ignition ON, press and hold the corresponding memory button.
    OR

  • With the ignition off and the driver’s door open, press the memory button to recall the stored setting.

Note: Personalization on feature must be deactivated (Car> Settings> Personalization and ensure deactivated).

Trunk Lid Operation

Trunk Lid with Easy Open Motion Sensor
To operate the Easy Open trunk lid:

  • You must be carrying your vehicle key on your person, e.g., in your pocket, hand or purse.
  • The ignition must be off.
  1. Quickly move your foot and shin as close to the bumper as possible (in a kicking motion). Your shin must be in the upper part of the sensor’s range and your foot in the lower part.
  2. Quickly move your shin out of range. The rear hatch will open or close automatically.

Easy Close Trunk
To operate the Easy Close trunk lid, with the lid already open:

  1. With your vehicle key on you, move your leg in the same way as stated in the Easy Open section.
  2. Walk away from the rear of your Arteon.
  3. You will hear an audible beep letting you know the lid will close once you move away from the Arteon.
  4. The trunk will close automatically.

You may also press the trunk button on the edge of the trunk lid to close.

Trunk Buttons

  • Within range, push and hold the Trunk button on your key fob to open or close the trunk.
  • To open the trunk, pull and release the trunk switch located on the driver door.
  • If the ignition is on, you can close the trunk by pulling and holding the switch located on the driver door, until the trunk lid is completely closed.

Changing and Saving the Opening Angle

If you would like the trunk to stop opening at a lower angle:

  1. Interrupt the opening process at the desired open position by pressing the  . It must be at least half open.
  2. Press and hold the on the trunk lid until the emergency flashers start flashing and an audible signal is heard.

To reset the opening angle:

  1. Push the trunk lid all the way up by hand. It will require more force than usual.
  2. Press and hold the on the trunk lid until the emergency flashers start flashing and an audible signal is heard.

Bluetooth Voice Recognition

Pairing a Compatible Phone

  1. With the ignition on and the vehicle in Park, turn the Infotainment system on. Your vehicle’s Bluetooth system will be in “discovery” mode.
  2. From the Bluetooth menu on your phone, search for new devices and select MY VW XXXX (last four digits of VIN).
  3. A connection request will appear on the Infotainment display.
  4. Press Connect on the Infotainment display.
  5. The Infotainment display will then show a PIN.
  6. Make sure the same PIN is displayed on your phone and press Yes on the Infotainment touchscreen, then press Pair on your phone.

Note: If your phone displays a prompt asking to connect to your vehicle, make sure to enable future automatic connections. This will help to automatically reconnect the compatible paired device to the system. Once the PIN is shown, pairing must be completed within 30 seconds; otherwise, the process will need to be repeated.

Primary and Secondary Phone Functionality
Two active phones can be connected simultaneously. Follow steps 1-7 above. Only contacts from the primary phone will be shown within the Infotainment system. Switching between phones requires pressing the Swapping icon .

Note: This feature is not available when the phone is connected t o Apple CarPlay or Android Auto™.

Voice Recognition via Volkswagen Native Infotainment
Voice control can either be launched using the Talk button on the multi- function steering wheel or by using the activation word, “Hello Volkswagen.”, similar to how you would activate a digital assistant at home.

To enable activation with the activation word:

  1. Tap the MENU button on the infotainment and then select the settings icon .
  2. Tap Voice control, then enable Activation word.

To enable activation with the activation word:

  • A short press of the Talk button  will launch the in-vehicle voice recognition.
  • A long press of the Talk button will launch the digital assistant of a connected compatible mobile device.

A variety of voice prompts are available depending on which language has been set in the Infotainment system, and whether there is an active VW Car-Net account for the vehicle. For full details and a list of compatible languages, please refer to the Owner’s manual. A list of example prompts can also be found in the Voice control settings.

Voice Recognition Tips

  • The contact must be said exactly as it is stored in your phone’s contact list.
  • If multiple numbers are stored per contact, you may use the shortcut, “Call John Smith work,” or the system may ask you to

Cancel Active Voice Recognition
When voice recognition is activated, press the Voice Control button on the multi-function steering wheel. Or say “Cancel.”

Answer an Incoming Call
The Bluetooth system will interrupt your car stereo with a ringtone. Press the OK button on the multi-function steering wheel or the green Phone icon on the Infotainment touchscreen to answer the call.

Volume Settings
To adjust the volume of the Bluetooth system while on a call, press the Volume Up or Volume Down button on the left side of the multi-function steering wheel.

Switch to Private Mode
To prevent passengers from overhearing a conversation, switch a Bluetooth call to your mobile phone:

  1. Once a call has been answered, use the Horizontal Menu buttons on the multi-function steering wheel to customize the instrument cluster display.
  2. Use the Vertical Arrow buttons on the right side of the multi-function steering wheel to scroll to the Telephone menu.Volkswagen-2023-Arteon-fig-47
  3. Use the Horizontal Menu buttons to open the Telephone menu.
  4. Use the Vertical Menu buttons to scroll to “Private” and select with the IOKI button.

End a Call
While in the Phone function, press the red Phone icon on the Infotainment touchscreen. Or, alternatively:

App-Connect/ myVW

To start App-Connect*, pair your smartphone to your VW’s Bluetooth and watch as your select apps appear on the touchscreen display. Need a couple extra bars on your phone’s battery? Get a charge beyond just your driving experience. Plug your phone into your VW’s USB port, and enjoy all the same access.

Wireless App-Connect with Apple CarPlay Integration

To connect:

  1. Pair your phone to the Volkswagen Infotainment system with Bluetooth.
  2. A prompt will display the vehicle touchscreen asking if you want to use Bluetooth or Apple CarPlay.
  3. Select Apple CarPlay. If this is the first time, accept the confirmation on your iPhone®.
  4. Simply unlock your iPhone and plug it into the USB port using a certified lightning cable. After choosing to use Apple CarPlay, your iPhone will ask if you’d like to use Apple CarPlay wirelessly for future connections.

Note: Please confirm all prompts from App-Connect on the mobile device for a successful Apple CarPlay connection.

Apple CarPlay®
Apple CarPlay is a smarter way to use your iPhone while you drive your Volkswagen. With an updated user interface that helps you control tunes, turns and Siri® suggestions, a calendar app that lets you view and manage your day, and maps that reveal more of what’s around you, getting there just got a whole lot easier-and a lot more fun.

  1. Ensure you are running the latest iOS on your device.
  2. Unlock your iPhone and plug it into the USB port using a certified lightning cable.
  3. A message will appear on the Infotainment system display stating that a new device has been detected. It will ask, “Do you want to connect with Apple CarPlay?” Select Connect.
  4. Pair your iPhone to your Infotainment system’s Bluetooth connection. When the “Select a connection technology” pop-up appears, select Apple CarPlay.
  5. Select Allow on your iPhone to enable Apple CarPlay to access your iPhone while your iPhone is locked.

Note: You wll have to have had an unlocked iPhone within the past hour in order to use Apple CarPlay. When you are connected using Apple CarPlay, your iPhone can no longer be used as a media source or as a Bluetooth device. Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or higher running iOS 7.1 or later. Features
Apple CarPlay features Siri voice control. Siri must be enabled on the device to use Apple CarPlay. There are two ways to activate Siri:

  • Press and hold the Voice Control button (c,O on the multi-function steering wheel until you hear the tone.
  • Press and hold Home on the touchscreen to activate Siri.
  1. Home has two features:
    • Return to the Apple CarPlay home screen or to the Apple CarPlay Dashboard.
    • Long press to activate Siri.
  2. Phone: Siri can help you make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemail.
  3. Maps: Opens Apple Maps for turn-by-turn directions, traffic conditions, immersive 3D experiences, and estimated travel time. Siri can also help with directions. Activate Siri and say, “Navigate to,” and your destination.
  4. Messages: Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you.
  5. Tapping the Volkswagen Logo icon simply takes you to the Volkswagen native user interface with all the features and functions of Apple CarPlay still active.
  • To charge your iPhone only, disconnect from Apple CarPlay by pressing the Volkswagen Logo icon, then select Disconnect on the touchscreen. This will allow Bluetooth® access while charging your iPhone. Click here for further information on Apple CarPlay apps.

Wireless App-Connect Android Auto

To connect

  1. Pair your phone to the Volkswagen Infotainment system with Bluetooth.
  2. Select Use Android Auto or select Cancel for Bluetooth connection.

Note: Please confirm all prompts from Android Auto on the mobile device for successful Android Auto connection.

Android Auto™
Use some of your favorite Android™ applications on the road through your Volkswagen’s Infotainment screen. Hands-free, you can talk to Google on Android Auto to get driving directions, send a text or place a phone call. Android Auto is made to help you focus on the road while having fun along the way.

  1. Ensure you are running the latest Android™ OS on your device and download Android Auto from the Google Play Store. An active Google account and an internet connection is required. If you’re using Android 10 or higher, the app is already on your phone.
  2. Plug your Android phone into the USB port using a certified USB Cable.
  3. Press the App key on the touchscreen.
  4. Select Android Auto on the touchscreen. Ensure your phone is unlocked OR pair your Android phone to your Infotainment system’s Bluetooth connection. Then, select Use Android Auto in the pop-up.
  5. When you see the data transfer prompt, select OK on the touchscreen.
  6. Follow the instructions on your device to continue setup.
  7. Android Auto will appear on the Infotainment touchscreen once all the prompts have been accepted on your device.

Features

  1. Microphone: Google Assistant can be activated with a long press of the Microphone icon on the touchscreen or by using touchscreen commands that work with available apps. Google Assistant can also be activated using your voice to easily send messages, get directions, control media, and more. Just say, “Hey Google,” long-press the Voice Control button on the multi-function steering wheel, or tap the Microphone icon on the touchscreen to get started.
  2. Navigation: Predictive navigation provides turn-by-turn directions, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. Android Auto can predict where you want to go next based on your calendar and recent destinations.
  3. Phone: Listen and reply to text messages, make calls, or check your voicemail.
  4. Home Screen: Takes you back to the home screen of Android Auto.
  5. Music and Audio: Use your touchscreen to access your favorite artists, songs and playlists. Android Auto lets you stream from apps such as Pandora, Spotify and iHeartRadio.

Tapping the Exit icon  simply takes you to the Volkswagen native user interface, then select Disconnect if you wish to completely disconnect from Android Auto.

myVW Enrollment Process (if not performed by dealer):

  1. Download the myVW app9
  2. Click “Sign up” and enter your email and a password
  3. You’ll get an email; click on the link
  4. Follow the steps to set up your account
  5. If you do not see your car in the app:
    • Enter the VIN found on the driver’s side of the dashboard
    • Scan a QR code or enter a registration number from your infotainment screen. To find these, go to Menu >Settings> VW Car-Net online services> Registration
  6. Create a 4-digit PIN
  • Activate VW Car-Net to enjoy remote features

  1. Volkswagen highly recommends that a maintenance service be performed every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. Actual recommended service intervals and scheduled maintenance services vary based on vehicle model, model year, and mileage. See your Volkswagen dealer, warranty & maintenance booklet, and/or VW Care Terms and\ Conditions for details
  2. Service history is available as long as work was performed since after January 2014 at a participating Volkswagen dealership.
  3. Roadside Assistance is provided by a third party. May require additional payment for services rendered. See the owner’s literature for limitations and details.
    • Available on most MV20 and newer vehicles. Always pay careful attention to the road and do not drive while distracted. Certain services require trial or paid subscriptions, which may have their own terms and conditions. VW Car-Net Remote Access requires a VW 10, myVW app, and myVW account, cellular connectivity, network compatible hardware, availability of vehicle GPS signal, and acceptance of Terms of Service. Not all services and features are available on all vehicles and some features may require the most recent software update. Failure to heed warning lights and instrument cluster text messages can cause the vehicle to break down in traffic and result in a collision and serious personal injury.

  • Never ignore warning lights or text WARNINGS.
  • Always stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Park the vehicle at a safe distance from moving traffic and where no part of the hot catalytic converter and exhaust system can come into contact with flammable materials under the vehicle, such as dry grass, brush, spilled fuel, etc.
  • A broken-down vehicle presents a high accident risk for itself and others. Switch on emergency flashers and set up a warning triangle to warn oncoming traffic.
  • Before opening the engine hood, always switch off the engine and let the engine cool down.
  • Always be very careful when working in the engine compartment, which is a potentially dangerous area in any motor vehicle and can cause serious personal injury.
