Intended Use
- The product is designed for use as a non-contact temperature measurements up to 932 °F (500 °C).
- The product measures the surface temperature only. It does not measure the internal temperate of an object.
- The temperature is measured by scanning the infrared energy an object emits.
- The product is especially suited for measuring the temperature of hot, difficult to reach or moving objects.
- The product cannot measure through transparent surfaces, for example glass or water.
This product is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
Changing Batteries

- Replace the battery with a new 9 V battery and close the battery compartment cover.
Operation
- Hold the meter by its handle grip and point it toward the surface to be measured.
- Press and hold the trigger to switch the meter on and begin measuring the surface temperature. The SCAN indicator is shown on the display. The temperature shown is updated continuously.
- Release the trigger. The indicator and the last measured temperature are shown on the display.
- The product automatically powers off approximately 10 seconds after the trigger is released.
Changing °C/°F unit
To change the unit between Fahrenheit and Celsius press the °C/°F button.
Viewing maximum or minimum temperature
To view the maximum or minimum measured temperature, press the MAX/MIN button.
The MAX or MIN symbol is shown on the display.
Switching laser and backlight on/off

- To switch the laser off, press and hold the button again. The indicator goes off.
- To switch the display backlight on/off, press the button.
Field of View
- The meter’s field of view is 12:1. This means that if the meter is 12 inches (30.5 cm) from the target, the diameter of the object under test must be at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) Make sure that the target is larger than the unit’s spot size. The smaller the target, the closer you should be to it. When accuracy is critical, make sure the target is at least twice as large as the spot size.
- The measurements should normally be made less than 2 feet (60 cm) from the target.
- Steam, dust, smoke, etc. can cause inaccurate measurements.
- To find a hot spot, aim the meter outside the area of interest then scan across (in an up and down motion) until the hot spot is located.
Emissivity
- Most organic materials and painted or oxidized surfaces have an emissivity of 0.95.
- Inaccurate readings might occur while measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces. To compensate for this, cover the surface to be measured with masking tape or flat black paint.
- Measure the tape or painted surface when the tape or painted surface reach the same temperature as the material underneath.
