- macOS Ventura 13: Screen Recording permission
- Troubleshooting: macOS macOS requires the user to permit “Screen Recording” for the Display Link driver to work properly. Approving it enables DisplayLink to access the pixels it needs to render a mirrored or extended screen and send the pixels over USB from your computer to the DisplayLink display. It does not send any data or pixels back to the Display Link.
- The user is notified about a need for Screen Recording permission in three places.
- By macOS dialog box on the first DisplayLink device plug-in
- By DisplayLink driver on each device plug-in:
- By DisplayLink Manager app warning in macOS status bar:
To approve the permission, please follow these steps:
- Open System Settings
- Go to Privacy & Security > Screen Recording
- From Screen Recording tab toggle DisplayLink Manager
- Authenticate the changes by using your login details
- Click “Quit & Reopen

macOS Ventura: Installation failed Troubleshooting: macOS
- I am installing Display Link Manager version 1.8 on macOS Ventura 13x and I am getting the following error: The installation failed. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
- During the first installation if the following security prompt is not approved the installation will fail as the installer does not have access to the Downloads folder.
- Re-running the installation does not populate this prompt again.
- To grand the missing access navigate to System Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Files and Folders
- Then click an arrow to the left of Installer which brings up the option to allow access to the downloads folder. This needs to be toggled on.
- If you do not see the Installer under Files and Folders then navigate to Privacy & Security -> Full Disk Access toggle the Installer here and provide your admin password.
- After the installation, you can turn it off.
