This hearing protector is intended to protect the wearer from hazardous noise
levels when fitted in accordance with these user instructions. Any other uses
are not intended and therefore not allowed.
Functions and user instructions vary between models. Follow the
instructions that apply to your model.
The headset combines the functions of AM/FM Radio, level-dependent “active
listening” and wireless communication via mobile phone (or other units) and
music streaming from (MP3-players, mobile phones, PCs, etc.) units that are
compatible with Bluetooth® and A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). The
headset’s noise-suppressed boom microphone provides clear communication even
at high noise levels.
Carefully read these user instructions to attain the greatest possible
benefits from your Zeller product.
- To achieve optimal comfort and the best effect from this hearing protector, you must use, maintain and adjust the protector according to the following instructions.
- The use of perspiration/hygienic protection over the sealing rings can reduce the hearing protector’s noise attenuation properties.
- This product may be adversely affected by certain chemical substances. Further information should be sought from the manufacturer.
- The hearing protector’s noise attenuating properties can dramatically decrease with the usage of, for example, thick eyeglass frames, ski masks/balaclavas, etc. Brush away all hair from the ears and place the earmuffs over the ears so that they fit comfortably and snugly. Ensure that the ears are completely enclosed by the earmuffs and that you have even pressure around the ears.
- Immediately discard the product if showing signs of cracks or damage.
- The audibility of warning signals at a specific workplace may be impaired if over-protected when using a hearing protector with a too high noise attenuation performance in relation to the noise environment.
- When using hearing protection with entertainment audio features, remember to adjust the volume when working in noisy environments so that any warning signals, etc. can be heard.
- For some individuals, excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones may cause hearing loss.
- Do not use this product in a potentially explosive atmosphere.
- Ensure that the hearing protectors are regularly inspected for serviceability.
- This hearing protector is provided with level-dependent attenuation. The wearer should check the correct operation before use. If distortion or failure is detected, the wearer should refer to the manufacturer’s advice for maintenance and replacement of the battery.
- Warning! Performance may deteriorate with battery usage. The typical period of continuous use that can be expected from the hearing protector is 62/56 hours
- Warning! The output of the level-dependent circuit of this hearing protector may exceed the external sound level.
Headband (pic. C)
- Adjust the protector to its largest size and put it on your head.
- Adjust the band so that the protector rests lightly against the crown of your head.
Helmet/Cap mount (pic. D)
- Push the helmet mount into the helmet’s slot attachment until it snaps into place.
- Place the earmuffs over the ears and press inwards until you hear a click. Adjust the earmuffs so that the helmet fits comfortably on your head.
Care
Clean with mild soap. You must be sure that the detergent you use does not
irritate the skin. The hearing protector must be stored dry and clean, e.g. in
its original packaging. Do not dip the product in the water!
When damp, turn the shells outwards and remove the cushions so they can dry.
Remove the batteries.
Warning!
If the instructions above are not followed, the noise attenuation could
drastically decrease.
The hearing protector must always be used in noisy environments to provide a
full protection effect!
Only 100% wear time provides full protection.
Information required by E.P.A. (US)
The level of noise entering a person’s ear, when a hearing protector is worn
as directed, is closely approximated by the difference between the A-weighted
environmental noise level and the NRR.
Example:
- The environmental noise level as measured at the ear is 92 dBA.
- The NRR is 25 decibels (dB).
- The level of noise entering the ear is approximately equal to 67 dB.
Caution
For noise environments dominated by frequencies below 500 Hz, the C-weighted
environmental noise level shall be used.
Warning
Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating
noise. Although hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against
the harmful effects of impulsive noise, the noise reduction rating (NRR) is
based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate
indicator of the protection attainable against impulsive noise such as
gunfire.
**USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR AM/FM RADIO, LEVEL DEPENDENT & EXT. AUDIO INPUT
**AM/FM Radio
The hearing protector features level-limiting of audio signals from the
speakers to a maximum of 82 dB(A) at the ear. Remember to adjust the volume
when working in noisy environments so that any warning signals etc. can be
heard.
On/Off Volume Radio
Turn the dial (A:10) to switch on the radio. Continue turning clockwise to
increase the volume.
In the event of poor reception conditions, the radio automatically switches
from stereo to mono mode to maintain optimal audio quality.
Frequency/channel selector
Turn the dial (A:11) to choose radio stations. The radio’s frequency range is
FM 88-108 MHz, AM 540-1700 KHz (A:11b).
Level Dependent “Active listening”
The hearing protector is equipped with Level Dependent “Active listening”. If
interference or faults occur, consult the manufacturer’s instructions on
maintenance and battery replacement.
Warning! The sound from the Level Dependent “Active listening” on the hearing
protector can exceed the external noise level.

Turn the dial (A:12) to turn on the active listening microphones. Continue to
turn clockwise to increase the volume. Check that the function is operable
before using the unit in a noisy environment.
Level Dependent + Radio (A:12, A:10)
Both functions have individual volume control. Adjust the volume to the
desired level.
External audio input (A:13)
The hearing protector is equipped with an electronic audio input. You can
connect a com-radio or other external audio source to the 3.5 mm audio input
via the included connection cable (B:6). Check that the function is operable
before using the unit. If interference or faults occur, consult the
manufacturer.
Warning! The connection of an external audio source can entail a sound
level that exceeds the daily permitted exposure level.
NOTE! The volume function (A:12 or A:10) must be turned on when using the
external audio input.
USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR BLUETOOTH® FUNCTIONS
You also need access to the user instruction for the Bluetooth® compatible
unit (mobile phone etc.) communicating with the headset. The hearing protector
features level-limiting of audio signals from the speakers to a maximum of 82
dB(A) at the ear.
Pairing with another Bluetooth® unit
Pairing establishes a wireless link for communication between the units.
Pairing is only needed once for each pair of units. The headsets can store up
to 8 different units in their memory.
- Start the headset Bluetooth® function by pressing and holding down the Bluetooth® knob (A:14) (from here on referred to as the BT knob) for 3 seconds. An audio signal with 4 ascending tones is heard in the headset. The headset LED light (A:15) flashes red/blue to confirm pairing mode. Release the BT knob.
- Start the Bluetooth® function on your phone (or another unit) and search for and connect to the new unit. See the user instruction for your phone (or another unit). Zeller 412 is shown on the phone’s display. If the phone requires a PIN code, enter four zeros (0000).
- An audio signal with 1 tone is heard in the headset when the link is established and ready for communication. The headset LED flashes blue.
- If the pairing fails, switch off all headset functions and restart again from step 1.
The headset boom microphone (A:7) should be placed approximately 1 cm from
the mouth for best noise suppression and clear speech intelligibility. Make
sure the microphone is facing the mouth (A:7b).
When Bluetooth® pairing has been activated, the link is automatically
established with the headset the next time the hearing protection is switched
on. The connection link is confirmed with an audio signal in the headset and
the LED flashes blue.
Turning off the Bluetooth® function
Press and hold the BT knob for 6 seconds. An audio signal with 4 descending
tones is heard in the headset confirming the Bluetooth® function is turned
off.
Answer/End/Refuse call
Most phones send their own call signal to the headset. If not, 4 shifting
tones are heard in the headset at incoming calls.
- Answer a call by pressing short on the BT knob. 2 ascending tones confirm that the call is connected
- End a call by pressing short on the BT knob. 1 short tone confirms that the call is disconnected.
- To refuse a call, press and hold the BT knob for 3 seconds. 2 descending tones confirm the call is refused.
Redial last dialed number
2 short presses on the BT knob redial the last dialed number.
Voice dial from headset via a connected phone
See the user instruction for your phone if it supports voice dial.
- Press and hold the BT knob for 2 seconds and release the BT knob.
- Speak your voice dial command.
Most phones that support voice-controlled dialing will send an acknowledgment
signal when to speak your voice dial command.
Transferring calls to/from a phone
- Press the BT knob for 1 second to transfer the call to the phone. A short tone will confirm the call is transferred to the phone.
- Press the BT knob for 1 second to transfer the call back to the headset.
Park a call/put on hold
During an ongoing call, an additional incoming call can be connected. See the
user instruction for your phone if this is supported.
- A short press on the BT knob will connect the incoming call and end the ongoing call. A short tone is heard in the headset to confirm.
- Two short presses on the BT knob will connect the incoming call and put the ongoing call on hold. A short tone is heard in the headset to confirm.
- One short press on the BT knob re-connects the parked call and ends the other. A short tone is heard in the headset to confirm.
Adjusting the volume during an ongoing call
- Increase the volume by turning the BT knob clockwise.
- Decrease the volume by turning the BT knob counterclockwise.
The headset has the function of “adaptive volume control” which adjusts the
incoming communication/speech volume to the ambient sound level. This means
that the users themselves do not need to adjust the volume when working in
irregular ambient sound levels. The volume adjusts relative to the originally
set volume level.
Music streaming from a Bluetooth® unit
- Start the headset Bluetooth® function (see earlier steps).
- Start the music player on the phone (or another unit).
- Adjust the volume by turning the BT knob clockwise/counterclockwise.
- Play/Pause the music by pressing short on the BT knob
- Other playback functions are controlled on the phone.
Warning!
Remember to adjust the volume when working in noisy environments so that any
warning signals etc. can be heard.
Indication of broken Bluetooth® link
If the Bluetooth® link is broken due to exceeded range (more than10 meters)
two tones will be heard in the headset.
NOTE! The unit will not automatically connect when within range. Press
the BT knob when within range (less than 10 meters) to re-establish the link.
A tone will be heard in the headset to confirm.
IMPORTANT!
Due to safety reasons, the volume of the AM/FM radio and music streaming is
muted at an incoming call or other communication from the connected unit.
The volume is reset automatically when the communication is ended.
Due to safety reasons, the volume of the Level Dependent function and
external sound input is NOT muted at incoming calls or other communication
from the connected unit (if these functions are in use).
Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones may cause hearing
loss.
Some phones may not have access to all Bluetooth® functions. In that case,
these functions have to be controlled directly on the phone.
The headset has the function “side-tone” which allows users to hear their
own voice in the headset.
This improves communication in noisy environments and lets users talk at a
normal speech level.
Low battery warning
When the battery power is decreasing and approximately 5 % remains of maximum
run time, an audio signal of 5 shifting tones will be heard in the headset.
The batteries should then be changed or charged as soon as possible. The LED
light flashes purple once and the headset will turn off when the batteries are
completely drained.
Power save function
To avoid unintentional drainage of the batteries, e.g. if the headset is left
on after working hours, the headset will automatically be turned off after 6
hours if no settings have been made within the 6-hour period.
Press and hold the BT knob for 3 seconds to restart the Bluetooth® function
and resume the connection.
If the AM/FM radio or Level Dependent function was turned on, each individual
volume control (A:12, A:10) must be turned off and then on again.
Exchange the batteries
The headset can run on both rechargeable and disposable batteries of AA type
(LR6/HR6). Make sure you only use specified battery types. Warning! If other
battery types than specified are used, the risk of explosion may occur.
Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
Unscrew the battery lid. (A:16). Check that the batteries + and – poles are
placed correctly in the battery compartment.
Never connect a charger to the headset if disposable batteries are used.
Charging of batteries
Prior to charging, make sure all functions are switched off.
The headset will charge when connected to a USB socket (PC, car, etc.) or when
using a USB wall charger, i.e. your mobile phone charger. Use the USB cable
supplied with the headset. (B:4)
Only use a charger that is approved to local directives for electronic
devices. Charger specifications: Output DC5V⎓1000mA
Check that the charger is correctly connected to the headset charging socket
(A:18) and the power source and make sure specified batteries are used and
placed with the + and – poles correctly in the battery compartment.
