This document provides operating and safety instructions for testing ladders. The purpose of testing is to identify any potential failures in the ladder. It is important to ensure that you are comfortable with climbing the ladder and follow the steps outlined below.
Important Safety Reminders
- Wear safety boots during testing.
- Perform a safety check before each climb and repeat every 5 climbs.
- Inspect the ladder for any issues and contact Andrew if necessary.
Safety Checklist
- Ensure treads are in good condition without any cracks in the plastic parts.
- Keep the steps free from dirt or grease.
- Contact Andrew if rungs are bent or distorted.
- Check ladder tread bolts for tightness to prevent instability.
- Inspect welded joints and bolts fixing the flange to the wooden frame for any signs of cracking, splitting, or distortion.
Proper Usage
- Maintain three points of contact with the ladder while moving.
- Regularly check ladder fixing every 5 climbs and record findings in the comments column.
- Do not use the testing ladder unless trained and authorized by Andrew or your Manager.
Usage Instructions

- Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the ladder and plan your approach to ensure safety.
- Perform a safety check before climbing the ladder:
- Inspect the treads for cracks and ensure they are in good condition.
- Make sure the steps are free from dirt or grease.
- If any issues are found, contact Andrew before proceeding with testing.
- Do not use the ladder if any rungs are bent or distorted. Contact Andrew for assistance.
- Check the tightness of ladder tread bolts to prevent instability. If loose threads are detected, contact Andrew before continuing.
- Inspect the welded joints and bolts fixing the flange to the wooden frame. Look for signs of cracking, splitting, or distortion. If any issues or uncertainty arise, contact Andrew before proceeding.
- Maintain three points of contact with the ladder at all times while moving. Ensure you have a secure handhold when moving your feet.
- Regularly check the ladder fixing every 5 climbs. Record any findings in the comments column. If unsure about any observations, stop testing and seek clarification.
- Only use the testing ladder if you have received proper training and authorization from Andrew or your Manager.
Remember to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during ladder testing. If you encounter any issues or require further training, immediately inform Andrew Feeley or your manager.

1| Please be aware you are testing the ladders to find where or if they fail.
Please make sure you are happy to do the next climb and follow the steps

2| Take a few minutes to look at what you are going to be doing and make sure
you are doing it the safest way. safety boots must be used.|
3| Before Climbing the ladder, ensure the following safety check has been
carried out, and repeat every 5 times you climb.|
4| Make sure treads are in good condition with no cracks in the plastic parts.
Steps must be free from dirt/grease on the treads. Please contact Any issues

5| Do not use the ladder if the rungs are bent or distorted. Any issues please

6| Loose threads could make the ladder unstable. Check the ladder tread bolts
for tightness. Any issues please contact Andrew before any more testing takes

7| Check the welded joint between the flange and tube for signs of cracking,
splitting or distortion. Check also the bolts fixing the flange to the wooden
frame aren’t pulling through the wood. If any issues or uncertain, please
contact Andrew before any more testing takes place.|
8| Keep three points of contact with the ladder, making sure a safe handhold
when moving the feet.|
9| Make sure the ladder fixing is ok every 5 climbs. Record any finding in the
comment column. Please stop if unsure.|
10| Do not use the testing ladder unless trained and authorized by Andrew or
your Manager|
I have received the above training and fully understand every point that was explained to me. I confirm that I will wear the required PPE equipment when testing the ladders. I will ask for further training if I need to and will immediately inform Andrew Feeley or my manager if there are any issues with doing the test.
