Dear Customer

Thank you and congratulations for choosing HOMEMATE XXL Electric Table BBQ Grill Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully. Connection to the mains supply. The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label.

Important safety instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following

  1. Read the instructions carefully.
  2. Persons (including children), not having the knowledge or experience in operating the appliance or having handicaps of physical, sensorial or mental nature must not operate the appliance without supervision or instruction by a person, responsible for their safety. Never leave the appliance unattended during operation. Always keep children away from the product.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  4. Do not touch hot surfaces. The handles and knobs are heat resistant. Use gloves when handling the hot surface/drip tray to prevent risks of getting burned.
  5. Keep a distance of at least 0.5 m to all sides and 1 m above the appliance in order to avoid damage through heat or fat splatters and to grant an unobstructed work area.
  6. Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  7. To protect against risks of electric shock, do not immerse the cooking plate, power cord or plug in water or other liquid.
  8. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
  9. Do not let cord hang over the edge of table or counter nor touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas, electric burner or a heated oven.
  11. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  12. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the appliance.
  13. Caution: To reduce risk of fire, cook only with the drip tray in place.
  14. Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord in the outlet. To disconnect, remove plug from wall outlet.
  15. Only operate appliance and accessories in dry condition – especially the cooking plate and the electric connections must be absolutely dry.
  16. Do not use outdoors.
  17. Do not use the appliance other than the intended use.
  18. When using the griddle, the surfaces are getting hot, be aware of hot fat splatters and steam.
  19. Do not place inflammable objects like tissues, cutlery etc. on the hot cooking surface.
  20. This appliance is not designed for use with charcoal or other fuels!
  21. This appliance is for household use only and not for commercial applications.

Before using for the first time

  • Remove all packaging materials and make sure items have been received in good condition.
  • Tear up all plastic bags, as they can pose a risk to children.
  • Before using your appliance for the first time clean the various accessories of appliance carefully, wipe the grilling surface with a clean, damp cloth (see Cleaning and Maintenance).
  • Before your first use, assemble grill and dial control knob. Set the temperature, position maximum number (no. 5) for approximately 3 to 5 minutes without any food on it, then turn the dial control knob to the “O” off position. Let the plate cool down completely. Please disregard the slight temporary formation of harmless smoke.
  • Unplug the appliance before cleaning and let it cool down. The grill is now ready to use.

Non-stick coating

The cooking plate features a superior non-stick coating. This coating is very easy to clean and characterized by excellent non-stick qualities. In order to ensure that the coating retains its good qualities, please observe the following notes:

  • Prior to initial use, pour once some cooking oil on a kitchen tissue and treat the upper side of the cooking plate.
  • Never cut with a knife or a similar object on the cooking plate.
  • Do not put aluminum trays or foil, pans, pots etc. on the cooking plate.
  • Do not use the cooking plate for flambeing food.
  • Do not use harsh of abrasive cleaners on any part of the grill.
  • Do not use metal cutlery or pointed and edgy objects for placing the food on the cooking plate, turning or removing it.

Caution

  • We recommend cutlery made of heat-resistant silicone or wood.
  • For protection, we recommend you using gloves and cutlery!
  • For putting the food on the cooking plate, for turning and removing it, use suitable cutlery made of heat-resistant silicone or wood.

Operating the appliance

Prior to cooking, make sure that …

  • The drip tray is placed in the cooking plate!
  • The appliance is placed on a stable and even surface!
  • The safety distances to the sides and to the top are observed!
  • The power cord is not laid so that no one gets entangled or stumbles over it before, during or after use in order to avoid that the appliance is accidentally pulled down!

Starting to cook

  • Insert the connector (1) into the connector base (4).
  • Condition the non-stick cooking surface with vegetable oil, wiping off any excess with a paper towel.
  • Plug the cord into a 230 volt 50 Hz AC outlet only.
  • Preheat the Griddle by aligning the selected temperature setting on the temperature control probe knob with the indicator light.
  • Carefully put the food on the cooking plate.

During cooking

  • By turning the temperature regulator, the temperature can be increased or reduced at any time.
  • The indicator light will cycle on and off during cooking indicating that the surface temperature is being maintained.

Note: Make sure that the fat drain does not get blocked during cooking, clean it occasionally if necessary.

After cooking

  • If the desired cooking result is achieved, turn temperature selector to the “O” off position.
  • Unplug from wall outlet.
  • Remove the ready food carefully.
  • Remove the fat of the drip tray. The pan can be pulled out of the base casing like a drawer.
  • Clean the appliance after each use. More detailed information is given under “Cleaning and maintenance”.

Cooking tips

  • Cooking periods and temperature settings depend heavily on the thickness of the food and especially on your own preferences.
  • Season the meat before cooking, salt it afterward, otherwise, too much juice will be lost.
  • Sausages are slit before cooking so that they will not burst.
  • For being prepared on the open grill, meat should be cut in even slices with a thickness of 2-3 cm.
  • Meat tastes especially good if it is marinated for some time before cooking.
  • If possible, the food should be taken out of the refrigerator 1/2 hour in advance. Then, it will be grilled more quickly and evenly.
  • Frozen food should be completely defrosted before cooking.
  • Choose side dishes according to your personal taste. Delicate sauces, herbed butter, fried vegetables, fresh salads, potatoes en papillote and garlic bread taste especially good with barbecued food.

Cleaning and maintenance

Before you proceed to cleaning, always unplug the appliance from the mains and remove the connector from its connector base. To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the connector base casing, cooking plate, mains plug and the power cord in water or other liquids.

Cleaning of the cooking plate

  • Hold the cooking plate at the handles and remove it from the appliance.
  • Remove coarse soiling by means of the enclosed cleaning scraper.
  • Afterwards, use a soft brush and some dishwashing detergent for cleaning and rinse with clear water.
  • Wipe dry thoroughly after cleaning.
  • Do not use oven sprays for cleaning!
  • Do not use a scouring agent or dissolvent!
  • Do not put the hot cooking plate in cold water.

Cleaning the connector base casing and the power cord

  • Wipe the connector base casing and power cord with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
  • Afterwards, wipe dry thoroughly.

Cleaning the drip tray

  • Carefully pour away any fat from the drip tray.
  • The tray may be cleaned with water and detergent suitable for the dishwasher.
  • Afterwards wipe all parts dry thoroughly.

Note: Prior to the next use, the cooking plate and the electrical connection must be completely dry.

Disposal

  • Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
