DESCRIPTION

The Mini K87 is a high-resolution condenser microphone that has a voice that can be described as neutral. It is more concerned with achieving transparency than color. But it keeps enough of its original personality to convey the feeling that was present in the source material. The sound of the microphone is produced by a combination of a capsule in the K67/K87 style that has been specially adjusted and a circuit that we have devised to improve and complement the sound produced by the capsule. It is only through the human process of giving the microphone its final voicing that we are able to produce a sound that is very consistent. The Mini K87 performs exceptionally well when used with vocals (both sung and spoken, including voiceover and podcasting), guitars, acoustic strings, and drum overheads.

We have discovered that neutral microphones are typically compatible with a wide variety of sound sources, including vocals as well as instruments. Because the microphone is not attempting to impose an excessive amount of its own sound on the source, the Mini K87 sounds good on the vast majority of them. (Recordists who are interested in purchasing a microphone with a little bit more color or character are encouraged to take a look at our Mini K47 and Colares studio condenser mics.) Components for the Mini K87 are chosen based on how they sound and are assembled in California. Before being sent out to customers, each microphone is put through a rigorous burn-in, quality control, and audio testing procedure. Because of this, you can rest assured that every microphone will give excellent performance right out of the box. The Mini K87 comes with an aluminum flight bag, our exclusive Cutaway shockmount, and a microfleece mic sock embroidered with the Roswell logo.
