INTRODUCTION

Cleanly cut a variety of flooring materials with this professional-grade flooring cutter. It features a large 9-7/16L x 1-1/8W in., high-speed steel blade that creates precision cuts and a strong, lightweight  aluminum handle.

SAFETY

WARNING! Read and understand all instructions before using this tool. The operator must follow basic precautions to reduce the risk of personal injury and/or damage to the equipment.
WARNING! Do not alter or misuse this tool. The 9 in. Laminate Cutter is precision built. Modifications not specified in this manual may result in dangerous condition.
Keep this manual for safety warnings, precautions, operating or inspection and maintenance instructions.

WORK AREA

  1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-lit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a shadow.
  2. Keep children, unauthorized persons or anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the work area.
  3. Store unused tools properly in a safe and dry location to prevent rust or damage. Lock tools away and keep out of the reach of children.
  4. Operate only on a secure, balanced surface capable of handling the tool and the workpiece.

PERSONAL SAFETY

WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
WARNING! Flying debris can cause permanent eye damage.
Prescription eyeglasses are not a replacement for proper eye protection.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

  1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply  with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
  2. Wear the appropriate type of full-face shield in addition to safety googles, as the work can create chips, abrasive or particulate matter.
  3. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to reduce the effects of tool vibration.
  4. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.
  5. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the work environment.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid personal injury or damage to the tool.

  1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
  2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
  3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance enables better control in unexpected situations.
  4. Keep hands and fingers away from work area. Any part of body coming in contact with moving parts could cause injury.

SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

If you use this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.
WARNING! The dust generated by the cutting of certain woods, wood fibres and/or PVC products can be harmful to your health.

  1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.

  2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damage broken or misplaced.
    Repair or replace the parts.

  3. Keep the blade sharp. A dull blade requires more force to use the
    tool, possibly causing the accessory to break. This may cause an
    injury and will damage the workpiece.

  4. Check the tool for damage before each use. A damaged tool can break during use and cause serious injury.

  5. Never leave the cutter unattended. If not in use for extended periods, secure the handle with a lock chain.

  6. Always keep hands away from the blade while operating or carrying.

  7. Ensure that the handle and blade are in the downward position with  the safety lock engaged when not in use or when transporting the cutter.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.

Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.
Make sure that all items in the Identification Key are included. Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION

Numbered references in parenthesis ( # 1) refer to the included Parts List.
Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
Dashed numbers in parenthesis (Fig. 1- 1) refer to a specific point in an illustration or image.

  1.  Attach the table assembly (D) to the table brace (E) using the 3 small Philips head screws (#31) (Fig. 1).
    Secure the table brace using the
    2 large pan screws (#11) (Fig. 1).

  2. Loosen the 3 hex screws (#6)  found on the top of the blade assembly (Fig. 2).

  3. Place the handle (A) into the hole, making sure the recessed hole lines up with the centre screw (Fig. 2-1 ).

  4. Once properly inserted and aligned, tighten the centre screw followed by the other 2 screws.

  5. Hold the workpiece steady with one of your feet.

  6. Depress the handle fully to lower the blade and complete the cut.

  7.  Slowly raise the handle to lift the blade.
    7.1 Do not release the handle while depressed. This will cause the
    handle to slam upwards and may damage the tool.

  8. Remove the workpiece from the opening.

CUTTING GUIDE

This tool cuts a wide variety of products up to a maximum width of 9 in.
It includes a miter guide for angled cuts from 0 to 45°.
Use this guide for recommended products and thicknesses.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

  1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
  2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
  3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
  4. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
  5. Keep the tool clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
  6. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates.
    These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.

WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

ADJUSTING THE BLADE

  1. Unscrew and remove the adjustment plate screws (Fig. 5).

  2. Tighten both adjustment plates by 1 or 2 holes (Fig. 6).

2.1 The adjustments on both plates must be the same.

SHARPENING THE BLADE

WARNING! Blade is VERY sharp. Wear gloves when handling.

  1. Remove the 5 hex screws (#9)  holding the blade to the assembly (Fig. 7).

  2. Remove the blade from the assembly.

  3. Have the blade sharpened by a qualified professional.
    3.1 Only the beveled edge of the blade should be sharpened.
    3.2 The flat edge of the blade must remain flat.

  4. Once sharpened, position the blade with its flat edge facing the table (Fig. 8-1).

  5. Insert and tighten the hex screws.

  6. Adjust the blade as needed using the above instructions.

HONING THE BLADE

It is recommended that new blades should be honed after the first 40 to 100 cuts, after every subsequent 100 cuts and after a blade has been freshly sharpened.

  1. Make sure the blade is properly installed.

  2. Position the blade roughly 1 /8 in. above the table (Fig. 9-1).

  3. Lay the flat side of the honing stone (not included) on the flat side of the blade. (Fig. 9-2).

  4. Move the honing stone from one end of the blade to the other several times until any burrs have been removed (Fig. 9-3).

LUBRICATION

Inspect and lubricate the tool once every 2 months or once a month if working in dry or dusty conditions. Only use light oil to lubricate the tool. Other lubricants may not be suitable and could damage the tool or cause a malfunction during use.
When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the steel parts to avoid rust. Remove the lubricant before using the tool again.

NOTICE! NEVER use a penetrating oil to lubricate the tool.
Penetrating oil may act as a solvent that can break down the
grease and cause the tool to seize up.

DISPOSAL

Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician service the tool.
