Zones 100V Speaker Output Terminals
Audio outputs for 100V (Hi-Z) speakers. Connect the selected zone output to
the first speaker in the zone using double-insulated speaker wire which has
adequate current rating to handle the total output of the amplifier. Please
check paragraph “Connections Safety” on page 5 before connecting.
Connect the “H” output terminal for the selected zone to the positive (+)
connection of the speaker, and the “C” output to the negative (-) connection
of the speaker. Connect further speakers in parallel to the first, with all
positive terminals connected together and all negative terminals connected
together as shown below:
A 100V line speaker system can comprise many speakers connected together. The determining factor for how many speakers can be used on a single amplifier is the power rating. For most purposes, it is advised to connect as many speakers as needed with a combined wattage of no more than 90% of the amplifier’s output power rating (in the case of the HMX-44A, this is 60W per zone output).
Note: The terminals of a 100V speaker are connected via a transformer and, if necessary, this transformer may be “tapped” for different power ratings. These tappings can be used to adjust the wattage (and output volume) of each speaker in a zone to help achieve the ideal total power of the system for the relevant zone output.
Zones 4 ohms Speaker Output Terminals
Alternatively, each zone output of the HMX-44A is capable of powering one or
more low impedance speakers. There is an option on each zone for a 4Ω speaker
output which determines the minimum impedance.
It is essential to select the correct output terminal when opting for low
impedance speakers. For a single 4Ω speaker or for 2 x 8Ω speakers connected
in parallel, connect the positive wire to the “4Ω”(+) terminal and the
negative wire to ”-”.
WARNING: The connected load should have a combined impedance no lower
than stated on the terminal. Lower impedance may cause irreparable damage to
the amplifier. The connected speaker(s) must also have a power handling to
accept up to 30W RMS from the zone output. Lower power handling may risk
damage to the speakers.
Zones 1-4 Line Level Outputs (RCA)
Each Zone output has a dedicated RCA signal mono output on the rear panel,
which can be connected to the Line inputs of active speakers or amplifiers.
These are in addition to the speaker outputs detailed above.
Line In Stereo/Mono Input (2 x RCA)
A stereo or mono unbalanced Line level source can be connected to the
auxiliary channel Line In on 2 RCA connectors (e.g. smartphone or laptop).
Line In Balanced Input (Euroblock)
In addition, an Euroblock Line input is provided for balanced connections.
Please pay attention to the polarity of the wires (+=Hot, -=Cold, G=ground).
Input 3 DIP Switches (Mic/Line + Phantom)
This Mic/Line input has 2 DIP switches: one to set the input level for the
correct type of source (Mic or Line), and the other for phantom power to use
with condenser microphones. If the source connected is a condenser microphone
which requires phantom power, make sure that the phantom is switched on for
this channel.
ATTENTION: Always change these DIP switch settings when the amplifier is
off. Making any changes when the amplifier is powered up may cause loud bangs
through the system which can damage your speakers.
Input 3 Mic/Line Input (XLR/Jack)
This combo is for the use of both XLR and 1/4” Jack balanced/unbalanced
Microphone or Line signals. You can connect mixers, DJ consoles, CD players,
etc. The input audio signal can be adjusted by using the volume level knob on
front panel. 8. Input 2 DIP Switches (Mic/Line + Phantom) Same as point 6 but
for input 2.
Input 2 Mic/Line Input (XLR/Jack)
Same as point 7 but for input 2.
Input 1 DIP Switches (VOX + Phantom)
Other than the phantom power switch described in point 6, this input has also
a VOX priority switch. This switch attenuates any signal in the zones Mic
input 1 is on when signal from Mic input 1 is detected, and returns them to
normal when Mic input 1 is silent.
Input 1 Mic input (XLR)
This input is designed as a Page Mic input and accepts Microphone level
sources with XLR balanced plugs.
Call Station Input Level Control
This knob controls the input volume level of the optional 4-zone Call Station.
Call Station Connector (RJ45)
This connector is used for the optional addition of a 4-zone Call Station, the
HMX-MIC. The HMX-MIC Call Station comprises a base unit and a paging
microphone. Connect the microphone to the XRL input on the top of the base
unit.
Use a CAT-5 network cable to connect the amplifier and carry power to the Call
Station.
24V Emergency Mute Contacts
For buildings with a main emergency alarm panel (for fire alarms etc.), the
XMA44A has Mute contacts on the rear panel, which will mute all audio except
for channel 1 when activated by a 24V trigger voltage. This leaves channel 1
active for evacuation announcements in the case of an emergency. The screw
terminal plug can be pulled out to make connection easier. 2-core bell wire is
appropriate for this.
FM Antenna Connector
Connect here the DAB+/FM antenna (included). You can also use this plug to
connect external antennas and increase the DAB+/FM reception sensitivity.
BT Antenna Connector
Connect here the BT external antenna (included) to increase the BT
sensitivity.
Mains Power Input & Fuse Holder
Power connector for mains power, combined with fuse holder. Plug the power
cord (included) into an AC socket properly configured for your particular
model.
Note: If you happen to lose the AC line-cord, always use a three-pin plug
with a ground pin. The wire correspondence is as follows:
Cable | Pin | International |
---|---|---|
Brown | Live | L |
Blue | Neutral | N |
Yellow/Green | Earth |
ATTENTION: Always connect the earth! Pay attention to your safety!
Before taking into operation for the first time, the installation has to be
approved by an expert.
In case of fuse burn, to prevent the risk of fire and damaging the unit, use
only the same type of fuse that is written on the device or check paragraph
“5. Specifications” on page 24.
Ground Connection Point
Connect this terminal to the earthing system for safety reasons and to avoid
problems in case of short circuits or amplifier malfunctions.
