What is Arduino

Arduino® is an open-source prototyping platform based in easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino® boards are able to read inputs – a light-on sensor, a finger on a button or a Twitter message – and turn it into an output – activating of a motor, turning on an LED, and publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so, you use the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino® software IDE (based on Processing).

Overview

VMA330
This module is an inexpensive solution for an obstacle avoidance sensor, perfect for robotic projects, and very easy to interface directly with Arduino® and compatible boards. The module has two potentiometers, one to control the frequency and one to control intensity.

  • operating voltage: 3.3 V to 5 V
  • output: digital (on/off)
  • detection threshold: adjustable by 2 trimmers
  • distance range: 2 to 40 cm
  • adjustment R5: frequency adjustment 38 kHz (already optimized)
  • adjustment R6: IR LED duty cycle adjustment (already optimized)
  • operating temperature: -10 °C to +50 °C
  • effective angle: 35°
  • I/O interface: 4 wire interface (- / + / S / EN)
  • dimensions: 45 x 16 x 10 mm
  • weight: 9 g

Pin Layout

+ 3.3 V to 5 V power

Example

Here is a small example to test the sensor. By default, the sensor turns to 1 on the serial monitor. When detecting something, the sensor returns to 0 .velleman-VMA330-IR-Obstacle-Avoidance-Sensor-Module-

Tip:
The VMA330 can be used as an IR remote-control tester as well! Point any IR remote control towards the VMA330 and you will see the SLED flashing when the remote is working.

CODE BEGIN

  • void setup() {

  • Serial. begin (9600);

  • pinMode (9, INPUT); //Sensor output
    }

  • void loop() {

  • Serial.print (“Sensor: “);

  • Serial.println (digitalRead(9)); //print the sensor output

  • delay (500); //wait half a second
    }

  • // CODE END
