PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Increasingly, high sound quality is required even in previously not-so- performing sound systems. Bars, restaurants, pubs, stores today use sound music, video games, home cinema, etc. – not only as a simple background, but as a real mar-keting tool, where sound quality is an important ingredient.
These subwoofers are meant to be placed in confined spaces, under sofas or against walls. But despite their slim look, housing volume and high-excursion woofers, they deliver bass worthy of much larger systems.
The built-in Class-AB amplifier is stable, designed for long-term use and equipped with an auto-power function (to reduce power consumption), limiter, thermal and overload protection. In addition to the stereo line input, there is also a stereo high-power (low-impedance) input that allows direct connection to amplifier outputs or speakers of an existing system, which is very practical if distances or other factors do not allow traditional connections to the mixer or link outputs of an amplifier.
The subwoofers come with 4 rubber feet to help distance the speaker when placed with the woofer toward the floor and 2 brackets for suspended wall mounting to minimize the space and make the woofer fully protected as it faces the wall.

Features

  • Bass-Reflex 8” and 10” Powered Subwoofer
  • Designed for Floor or Wall Mount use
  • Class-AB Amplifiers with 100W or 200W Power
  • Stereo Line Inputs and Stereo High-Level Inputs
  • Adjustable Crossover Frequency from 40Hz to 150Hz y Slim, stylish yet rugged housing with Black finish

Volume Level Knob
This knob controls the overall volume level of the subwoofer.

Low-pass Filter Knob
This rotary control adjusts the crossover frequency between the subwoofer and the main speakers between 40Hz and 150Hz. The subwoofer handles all the fre- quencies below the crossover frequency.

Phase Toggle Switch (FLOOR 8A)

This switch allows you to set the phase of the subwoofer’s output signal at 0° or 180°, to correct for a possible mismatch in phase, which can result in cancellation between the subwoofer and the main speakers.
Depending on the location of your subwoofer, the sound that reaches your ideal listening location could be out of phase with the sound from the rest of the sys-tem. If the bass sounds out of time, muddy or attenuated, try flipping the phase to the other position. The default position, which provides the best bass sound most of the time, is with the phase set to 0°.

Power LED Indicator (FLOOR 10A)

This LED lights up red when the subwoofer is plugged in and the Power Switch (6) is on.

Power Mode Toggle Switch (FLOOR-8A)

This 3-way switch controls the power status of the subwoofer:

  • ON: The unit stays on regardless of whether an input signal is present or not
  • AUTO: The unit automatically enters Stand-by mode after about 2 minutes without input signal, and will turn back on when a signal is detected
  • OFF: The unit stays off regardless of whether an input signal is present or not
Note: The Power Switch (6) must be in the ON position for the Auto Stand-by function to operate.

Power Mode Toggle Switch (FLOOR-10A)
This 2-way switch controls the power status of the subwoofer:

  • ON: The unit stays on regardless of whether an input signal is present or not
  • AUTO: The unit automatically enters Stand-by mode after about 2 minutes without input signal, and will turn back on when a signal is detected Note: The Power Switch (6) must be in the ON position for the Auto Stand-by function to operate.

Line/Sub RCA Inputs (FLOOR-8A)
This inputs accept a full range line level signal from a pre-amplifier output of a re-ceiver or amplifier. This full range signal is then amplified and processed to power the subwoofer.
If your amplifier, or audio-video receiver, has a dedicated subwoofer output (usu-ally labeled SUB or LFE), use a mono RCA cable to connect it to the (L) left input of the subwoofer:

HELVIA-FLOOR-8A-10-Inch-Floor-and-Wall-Mount-Active-Subwoofer-
FIG-6

Alternatively, if your amp does not have a dedicated subwoofer output, but does have a pre-amplifier output, use a stereo RCA cable to connect it to the L and R inputs of the subwoofer:

HELVIA-FLOOR-8A-10-Inch-Floor-and-Wall-Mount-Active-Subwoofer-
FIG-7

Stereo Line RCA Inputs/Outputs (FLOOR-10A)
See point 5.1 above for Line Input connections. Use the stereo Line Output of the subwoofer to send the signal to additional powered subs or amplifiers. Line Out will pass the audio at the same level as it entered Line In:

FIG-8

Power Switch
Use this switch to turn the subwoofer ON or OFF. If you are using the AUTO Stand-by feature, this switch should be left in the ON position.

High-Level Stereo Inputs (FLOOR-8A)
If your amplifier lacks both a dedicated subwoofer output or pre-amplifier output, connect the stereo speaker outputs on your amplifier to the High-Level Stereo Inputs of the subwoofer using 2 speaker wires:

HELVIA-FLOOR-8A-10-Inch-Floor-and-Wall-Mount-Active-Subwoofer-
FIG-8

  • Note: This is the least favored method of connecting the subwoofer.
  • Note: Please make sure that there polarity is not inverted (+ connect-ed to -). If the polarity is reversed, the sound will be unnatural and will play without bass.
  • Note: Anytime you note distortion, reduce the volume to a lower level. Never allow the subwoofer to be driven into “clipping”, otherwise it may be damaged. Damage caused by operating the subwoofer at distorted volume levels is not covered by the warranty.

High-Level Stereo Inputs/Outputs (FLOOR-10A)
See point 7.1 for High-Level Stereo Inputs connection from the amplifier speaker outputs. Then, send the amplified original stereo signal to L/R main speakers by connecting them to the High-Level Stereo Outputs of the subwoofer as shown below:

FIG-10

VDE Socket with Fuse Holder
Power connector for mains power, combined with fuse holder. Plug the power cord (included) into an AC socket properly configured for your particular model.

Note: If you happen to lose the AC line-cord, always use a three-pin plug with a ground pin. The wire correspondence is as follows:

Cable Pin International
Brown Live L
Blue Neutral N
Yellow/Green Earth

ATTENTION: Always connect the earth! Pay attention to your safety! Before taking into operation for the first time, the installation has to be approved by an expert

In case of fuse burn, to prevent the risk of fire and damaging the unit, use only the same type of fuse that is written on the device, or check paragraph “6.1. Spec-ifications” at page 15.

INSTALLATION

Read these instructions carefully before installing and using the product:

HELVIA-FLOOR-8A-10-Inch-Floor-and-Wall-Mount-Active-Subwoofer-
FIG-11

  1.  Before installing the subwoofer to a wall, check that the structure can sup-port the weight, and avoid contact with cables or pipes that may be behind the surface. Installation on soft materials or in areas that cannot support the weight of the subwoofer may result in personal injury or damage to the unit.
  2. Insert the C-bracket into the holders located at the bottom of the subwoofer making sure that they are tightly screwed in and that the bracket does not move.
  3. Hook the subwoofer to the screws or anchors firmly attached to the wall through the holes provided on the bracket.
  4.  Make sure the subwoofer is properly fixed to the wall. Use proper screws, bolts or anchors. Otherwise, the subwoofer may not be secured and cause damage or injury.
  5. Use only approved and certified cables for installation. Do not stretch or put the cable in contact with sharp objects.
  6. Before removing the cables, make sure the unit and other components are turned off.
  7. Never overload the subwoofer to the point of causing distortion, and always reduce the volume before changing input sources.
The installer is responsible for the installation. Pay attention to in- stalling the subwoofer according to local safety regulations.
