Kubb Game Viking Chess Outdoor Games
Contents: 1 king, 10 towers, 6 sticks, 4 playing field marker pins, carry
bag, instruction manual
The Game: Kubb can be played player against player or by two teams of 2
to 3 players. The game can be played anywhere (grass, gravel, sand).
Objective: Use the sticks to knock over your opponent’s towers and the
king.
Preparation: Mark out the rectangular playing area of 5 x 8 metres using
the four marker pins. Place the king in the centre of the playing area and
five towers on the baseline of each team.
A – King
B – Towers
C – Playing field marker pins
D – SticksGameplay: Decide who goes first by
throwing one of the sticks towards the king (without touching it) and whoever
lands closest begins the game – This is now Team A.
On your turn you must stand behind the baseline and throw the stick underarm.
No throwing overarm or sideways. Underarm throws only.
Team A throws the six sticks, from their baseline at the opponent’s lined-up
baseline towers. Those towers successfully knocked over are now thrown by Team
B into Team A’s half of the playing area and placed upright. These are now
called field towers.
Now it is the turn of Team B to throw the sticks at Team A’s baseline towers
but they must first knock down the field towers in Team A’s half. Once knocked
over, the field towers are removed from the playing area.
If either team leaves field towers standing, the tower closest to the king now
represents that side’s baseline, and throwers may step up to that line to
throw at their opponent’s towers.
Play continues this way until a team has successfully knocked down all the
towers on the opposing side, both baseline and field towers. If the team still
has sticks left to throw they may make a single attempt at knocking over the
king on that turn.
If a thrower successfully topples the king, the game is won.
If at any time during the game the king is knocked down by the attacking team
they immediately lose the game.
Warning. Not suitable for children under 36 months due to small parts.
Choking hazard. Long Cord. Strangulation hazard.
