Low Battery Indicator

Low Power: Red LED flashes following channel indication. Low battery alert tone will be heard whenever Talk button press and release. Please reinstall fresh alkaline batteries as soon as possible. When battery power is critical the radio will no longer transmit and will eventually power off completely.

Safety Information for microTALK Radios

Your wireless handheld portable transceiver contains a low power transmitter. When the talk button is pushed, it sends out radio frequency (RF) signals. The device is authorized to operate at a duty factor not to exceed 50%. In August 1996, the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines with safety levels for handheld wireless devices.

FCC RF Exposure Requirements: For body-worn operation, this radio has been tested and meets the FCC RF exposure guidelines when used with Cobra accessories supplied or designated for this product. Use of other accessories may not ensure compliance with FCC RF exposure guidelines. Use only the supplied antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications or attachments could damage the transmitter and may violate FCC regulations.

Radiation Exposure Statement

Under ISEDC regulations, this radio transmitter may only operate using the antenna that is affixed to the radio transmitter.  Use only the supplied antenna.  Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could damage the transmitter and may void the user’s authority to operate the radio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these appropriate for children?

Yes, these are in fact much better than the ones people buy for children. This will last much longer than the toy ones and is much clearer quality than the ones sold for cheaper. You usually get what you pay for.

How can I tell when the battery in my Cobra walkie-talkie is full?

When completely charged, the battery level indicator on the radio will display all bars. The battery status indicator will keep flashing while attached to the charger.

Can multiple walkie talkes of the same kind be “linked together” so that 6 of my neighborhood kids can all use them at the same time?

Are these compatible with handheld speaker microphone with 2 prong plug in?

I don’t think so.

Is it waterproof?

Not really, but ours were left out in a big rainstorm once though and we had to change the batteries and let them dry out and they eventually started working again

Are all the radios on the same frequency within the same model?

Each radio supports two channels (not 22), which are color coded by LED as either green or red, to make it easier for kids or other users. Just decide what color channel you want to be on and a single button push gets you there if you aren’t already on it. For the techies green is FRS 01 (462.56250 MHz) and red is FRS 02 (462.58750 MHz).

3 AAA batteries.

Can you use a headset/earpiece with these?

There is no plug for a headset.

The description says they are rechargeable. Do they come with a charging base?

Mine have 3 aaa batteries.

On my Cobra walkie-talkie, how can I change the channel?

Press and hold to activate the channel-changing mode. When such mode is selected, the channel numbers will flicker. The Up/Down buttons can be used to choose a station.

How can the range be increased on a Cobra walkie-talkie?

When the Talk or Call buttons are not depressed, your microTALK® radio is always in Standby mode. To change the volume, press and hold the MAX-RANGE button for three seconds to disable the auto squelch, then turn the Volume Knob until the volume is exactly right for you to listen to.

How long does it take to charge a Cobra walkie-talkie?

Batteries typically require 15 hours to fully recharge. Batteries should not be recharged for longer than 24 hours. On a full charge, the estimated operating time is 8 hours. When charging your Cobra microTALK® radio, only use the rechargeable batteries and wall charger that are included.

How do I get my walkie-talkie to work again?

Check to see if the battery pack or batteries are put properly. Check that the battery pack is properly installed, the batteries are installed appropriately, and the polarity is accurate. If accurate, move on to Step 3. Reinstall the battery pack or batteries if they weren’t installed properly.

How should the Cobra microTALK user manual be used?

A ringing tone will come from the radio you’re attempting to contact. Press the “speak” button to take a call. The “speak” button can only be used to broadcast sound; receiving sound is not possible after you’ve pressed it. In order to receive messages from another transmitter, press the “speak” button once again.
