Product Information
The Hudson Valley Lighting Somerset MDS811 is a fixture designed for mounting on a standard round or octagon junction box. It features a canopy, screw collar loop, nipple, mounting plate, and a fixture assembly with alabaster.
This fixture is rated for an 8 watt Type T8-3.5 Lamp. It is important not to exceed the recommended wattage to ensure safe usage.
Product Usage Instructions
- Attach the
MOUNTING PLATE (A)
onto the junction box using theMOUNTING SCREWS (B)
. Ensure that the junction box is securely mounted to the building structure. - Open the end link on the
CHAIN (I)
and attach it to the loop on theFIXTURE ASSEMBLY (J)
. Hang the fixture assembly on the chain at the desired height and remove any excess chain. - Feed the wire through the chain, screw collar, canopy, screw collar loop, nipple, and mounting plate. Screw the nipple onto the mounting plate.
- Open the top link on the chain and hang the fixture assembly to the screw collar loop.
- Cut off any excess wire and strip the insulation off the end of the leads.
- Attach the ground wire (green) to the ground inside the junction box or the ground screw on the mounting plate. Never connect the ground wire to the hot wire to avoid serious injury or death.
- Connect the fixture lead to the neutral wire (generally white) in the outlet box using an approved fastener (wire nut). Wrap the connection tightly with electrical tape to seal the end of the fastener. Ensure there are no exposed wires or strands that could cause a dangerous short circuit.
- Connect the smooth fixture leads to the hot wire (generally black) in the junction box. Fasten the joined wires same as in the previous step. Never reverse hot and neutral wires to avoid serious injury or death.
- Push the wires back into the junction box. Lift up the canopy to the ceiling and secure it with the ring.
- Screw the bulb into the socket of the fixture. Use an 8-watt Type T8-3.5 Lamp and do not exceed the recommended wattage.
- Lift the alabaster up to the fixture assembly and secure it with the rods. Screw the ring and finial to the bottom of the alabaster.
- Restore power to the outlet at the breaker or fuse box.
WARNING/CAUTION
- DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE RE-LAMPING OR WIRING THE FIXTURE. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION.
- TO AVOID THE RISK OF FIRE OR SHOCK, FIXTURE MUST BE INSTALLED IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTRICAL/BUILDING CODES. THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THIS UNIT SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN OR CERTIFIED FACTORY TRAINED TECHNICIAN.

- UNPACK FIXTURE, PARTS AND PARTS BAG(S) BEFORE DISCARDING THE CARTON. MAKE CERTAIN THAT ALL PARTS ARE FOUND. INSPECT THE FIXTURE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION FOR ANY DAMAGE. HVLG DOES NOT PAY OR REIMBURSE ELECTRICIAN FEES. FIXTURE MAY NOT BE RETURNED ONCE IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED. SEE WARRANTY FOR EXCEPTIONS.
- PLEASE CLEAN WITH A SOFT, DRY CLOTH ONLY! DO NOT USE CLEANSERS.

Attach the MOUNTING PLATE (A) onto the junction box using the MOUNTING SCREWS (B). This fixture is designed to be mounted on standard round or octagon junction box. The junction box must be securely mounted to the structure of the building.

Open the end link on the CHAIN (1) and attach to the loop on the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY (J). Hang the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY () on the CHAIN (1) at your desired height, and remove excess CHAIN (1).

Feed the wire through the CHAIN (1) , SCREW COLLAR (G), CANOPY (H), SCREW COLLAR LOOP (F),NIPPLE (E), and MOUNTING PLATE (A), and screw the NIPPLE (E) onto the MOUNTING PLATE (A).

Open the top link on the CHAIN (1), and Hang the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY (J) to the SCREW COLLAR LOOP (F).

Cut off excess wire, and strip the insulation off the end of the leads.

Attach the Ground wire (Green) to the ground inside the junction box (Generally green or bar copper wire) or the GROUND SCREW (C) on the MOUNTING PLATE (A). NEVER CONNECT GROUND WIRE

TO HOT” WIRE! FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH!

Connect the fixture lead the ridge(s) to the neutral (Generally white) wire in the outlet box. Fasten the wires together with an approved fastener (WIRE NUT) (D). Starting I” below the fastener, tightly wrap the connection with electrical tape so that the connections seals the end of the fastener. MAKE SURE
THERE ARE NO EXPOSED WIRE OF STRANDS THAT COULD CAUSE A DANGEROUS SHORT CIRCUIT! -
Connect the smooth fixture leads with to the hot (Generally black) wire in the junction box. Fasten the joined wires same as previous step. NEVER REVERSE HOT AND NEUTRAL WIRES. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH!

Push the wires back into the junction box. Lift up the CANOPY (H) up to the ceiling, and secure with the RING (G).
Screw the BULB (L) up into the SOCKET of the fixture. THIS FIXTURE IS RATED FOR 8 WATT TYPE T8-3.5 LAMP. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED WATTAGE! -
Lift the ALABASTER (M) up to the FIXTURE ASSEMBLY (J) and secure with the RODS (K), and screw the RING (N) and FINIAL (O) to bottom of the ALABASTER (M).

Restore power to the outlet at the breaker or fuse box.
