Product Usage Instructions

When performing a gas conversion on the Ruby Grill, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the gas line from the back of the grill and turn off the gas supply.
  2. If converting from NG to LP, refer to section 3. If converting from LP to NG, skip to section 6.
  3. Follow the instructions in section 3 for converting your Ruby Grill from NG to LP.
  4. If your grill has an infra-red back burner, follow the instructions in section 4 for converting the safety valve.
  5. If your grill has an infra-red back burner, follow the instructions in section 5 for converting the safety valve.
  6. If converting from LP to NG, refer to section 7. If converting from NG to LP, skip to section 10.
  7. Follow the instructions in section 7 for converting your Ruby Grill from LP to NG.
  8. Review the installation instructions located inside the grill’s product manual and ensure all guidelines are followed correctly.
  9. Never operate the grill unattended.
  10. If you have a side yard propane tank, make sure to have an additional medium pressure regulator located at the grill to prevent serious bodily harm or damage to the grill and island structure from high heat extremes.

By following these instructions, you can safely and effectively convert your Ruby Grill between LP and NG fuel sources as needed.

Understanding Gas Appliance Conversions
Making changes to an appliance so that it can utilize a different fuel is known as appliance conversion. The inner Valves and Orifices are designed to work with a gas that has a specific pressure. Natural gas is a much lower pressure gas than propane and converting the appliance to one or the other gases requires that the differing pressure is compensated for. In other words, connecting a natural gas appliance to a propane piping system will result in appliance malfunction and possibly danger. The reason for this is because natural gas orifices are larger than propane orifices strictly because of gas service pressure. In this case, the higher-pressure gas flowing through a larger orifice will result in more gas through the burner and likely, more flame…an unnecessarily large flame. Conversely, trying to use a propane appliance with natural gas will likely result in a very small flame or no burner flame at all because of the lower pressure gas and the smaller orifice. This is the purpose of an appliance conversion from propane to natural gas or from natural gas to propane.

GAS CONVERSION – Check List
Caution: Never operate the grill unattended.

FIRST TIME STARTUP CHECKLIST

  • All Valves are securely fastened on!
  • Installation of the proper gas type and regulator settings specific for your new Gas Type!
  • The proper gas connection is complete!
  • Gas Leak Test has been performed!
  • At Least Two Vents have been installed in High Position for Natural Gas and Low Position for Liquid Propane!
  • All parts and components are properly in installed.
  • An installer-supplied manual gas shut-off valve is fully accessible.
  • LP hose is clean and inspected for cuts, wear, abrasion, or leaks.

Replace if necessary, with a suitable UL, ETL or CSA Listed part with internally threaded connector.

WARNING: If you have a Side Yard Propane Tank, you MUST have additional Medium Pressure Regulator located at the Grill. If you do not serious bodily harm may result or damage to the grill and island structure from HIGH Heat extremes.

ATTENTION: Review the Ruby Grills Installation Instructions located inside the Grills Product Manual. Confirm ALL Guidelines are done correctly, All Product Warranties may be VOID if grills installation does not meet minimum setup instructions.
