American International HONK828 Mounting Dash Kit
Product Information
The HONK828 Mounting Kit is designed for use in various Acura, Honda, and Izusu vehicles. It allows for the installation of a single DIN or ISO-sized radio into the vehicle’s dashboard. The kit comes with a main frame bracket, left and right side mounting brackets (if required), DIN sleeve, and necessary screws.
Please note that this kit fits all vehicles with factory navigation radios or vehicles that do not come with any factory radio. For vehicles equipped with factory non-navigation radios, an additional part (HCB-8800/HCB8820) is required (sold separately).
For best-looking installation, ISO mounting is recommended whenever possible.
Product Usage Instructions
Single DIN Installation Tools Required:
Razor knife or file, pliers or wire cutters, Phillips screwdriver
- Locate the HON-K828 main frame bracket.
- Find the page in the manual that corresponds to the year and make of the vehicle you are working on.
- Locate the left and right side mounting brackets (if required).
- Following the illustration on the page for your vehicle, remove all mounting tabs from the main frame and file or trim them flush with the rear edge of the main bracket.
- If necessary, remove all mounting tabs from the left and right side brackets, unless they are specifically lettered for your vehicle application.
- Insert the left and right side brackets into the opening of the main frame and secure them to the rear of the pocket using the small screws supplied with the kit.
- Insert the DIN sleeve from your new radio into the radio opening of the installation kit.
- Depress the tabs from inside the sleeve’s opening upward, outward, and downward to secure the sleeve to the installation kit.
Note:
The ISO trim ring (ITR-828) may not be usable on some DIN mount applications,
such as radios with non-removable trim rings. Refer to line #2 in the manual
for all vehicles that require additional brackets.
Single ISO Installation Tools Required:
Razor knife or file, pliers or wire cutters, Phillips screwdriver
- Follow steps 1-6 in the Single DIN Installation section.
- Set the front of the kit down on a clean work station.
- Insert the left and right ISO mount brackets (IMB-828L & IMB-828R) into the rear of the radio opening and depress them onto the rails on top of the pocket.
- Insert IRB-828L and IRB-828R into the rear edge of the face of the kit and secure them to the rear of the pocket using the small screws supplied with the kit.
- Place the radio between the ISO mount brackets.
- Using the screws provided, attach the radio to the brackets. Note that the screws may need to be shortened if they touch any components.

Note:
This kit fits all vehicles with factory navigation radios or vehicles that do
not come with any factory radio. For vehicles that are equipped with the
factory non-navigation radios, part# HCB-8800/HCB8820 is required (sold
seperately).
KIT PREPARATION
SINGLE DIN INSTALLATION
TOOLS REQUIRED:
- Razor knife, or file (to cut or file the removed mounting tabs flush with the back edge of the main bracket)
- Pliers, or wire cutters (for mounting tab removal)
- Phillips screwdriver (to attach side brackets to rear of pocket)
KIT PREPARATION:
- Locate the HON-K828 main frame bracket.
- Find the page that has the year and make of vehicle you are working on.
- Locate the left and right side mounting brackets (if required) See example below.
- Following the illustration on the page for your vehicle, remove all mounting tabs from the main frame and file or trim flush with the rear edge of the main bracket.
- Remove all mounting tabs from the left and right side brackets unless they are lettered for your vehicle application.
- Insert the left and right side brackets into the opening of the main frame as shown in illustrations on page 4 and secure to rear of pocket with small screws supplied with kit.
- Insert DIN sleeve from your new radio into the radio opening of the installation kit.
- Depress the tabs from inside the sleeves opening upward, outward, and downward to secure sleeve to the installation kit.
Note:
ISO trim ring (ITR-828) may not be useable on some DIN mount applications.
Example: radio’s with non-removable trim rings
ATTENTION: See line #2 above for ALL vehicles
Vehicles below require brackets IMB-828L&R for DIN and ISO mount applications
Bracket set IRB-828L&R below are also required for vehicles only when ISO mounting radio.

Note:
For best looking install, ISO mounting is recommended whenever possible.
SINGLE ISO INSTALLATION
TOOLS REQUIRED:
- Razor knife, or file (to cut or file the removed mounting tabs flush with the back edge of the main bracket)
- Pliers, or wire cutters (for mounting tab removal)
- Phillips screwdriver (to attach side brackets to rear of pocket & attach radio to brackets)
KIT PREPARATION
- Follow steps 1-6 on page 2.
- Set the front of the kit down on a clean work station.
- Insert left and right ISO mount brackets (IMB-828L & IMB-828R) into rear of radio opening and depress on to rails on top of pocket as shown in figure A and B below.
- Insert IRB-828L and IRB-828R into rear edge of face of kit and secure to rear of pocket using small screws supplied with kit. See figure B below.
- Place the radio between the ISO mount brackets.
- Using the screws provided (screws may have to be shortened so they do not touch any internal components of radio) attach the radio to the side brackets loosely.
- Set kit and radio upright and attach the ISO trim ring supplied with kit.
- Adjust the radio forward for desired look and tighten mounting screws.

DASH DISASSEMBLY
- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Open console lid and remove the mat and base cover.
- Remove (4) screws from the bottom area of the center console.
- Remove the shifter knob and remove console out.
- Remove (2 ) screws holding the rear of the radio in place and remove radio enough to unplug radio connectors and antenna plug.
1994-97 HONDA ACCORD
- Slide drivers and passengers seat forward, and then remove (2) screws one on each side of the console.
- Remove ashtray and remove (1) screw from ashtray area.
- Open center console and remove cover plate on the bottom of console cavity. Remove (2) screws holding center console in place.
- Remove drink holder & remove (1) Phillips screw that is angled downward at the front edge of the console.
- After all the screws have been removed slide console back about 3” and then remove (2) screws holding radio trim bezel in place.
- Pull gently on radio trim panel to unsnap and then unplug hazard switch and also the clock connector.
- Remove (2) 8mm screws holding the rear of the radio in place and then slide radio out enough to unplug radio connectors and antenna plug and remove radio.
NOTE:
Attach rear support bracket to rear of pocket using (1) screw, included just
prior to installing radio/kit assembly into dash. (2 mounting holes must be
facing down.)
1998-02 HONDA ACCORD
- Gently pry out on the clock, unplug the harness and remove.
- Remove the (1) Phillips screw at the rear of the clock cavity.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws from the bottom of the radio trim bezel.
- Gently pull forward on the radio trim bezel (NOTE: there is a snap clip on each side of the trim beside the radio). Disconnect the wire harnesses and remove the trim panel.
- Remove the (4) Phillips screws holding the radio in place,disconnect the wire harness and antenna lead and remove.
- For re-assembly, reverse steps 1-5.
1999-00 HONDA CIVIC
STEP 1
- Remove the (2) phillips screws from the bottom edge of the glove box door and remove the door.
- Remove the (3) phillips screws from the panel below the steering wheel column.
- Gently pull down on the on steering wheel lower panel and remove.
- Remove the (2) phillips screws from under the climate controls.
- Remove the (4) phillips screws from the lower dash area.
- Remove the (4) phillips screws holding the bottom of the trim bezel/radio assembly and gently pull out as far as you can.
- Carefully cut the wire ties holding the climate control and radio wiring.
- Carefully pull forward on the trim and radio assembly and remove from the dash cavity.
- Disconnect all wiring.
STEP 2
- Remove the (3) screws holding the climate controls to the dash bezel and remove the controls.
- Remove the (4) phillips screws holding the radio assembly to the back of the bezel.
- Remove the (4) phillips screws holding the factory brackets to the radio.
- Slide the radio out through the front of the trim bezel.
1997-01 HONDA CRV
- Open glove box and remove two (2) screws to the left of the glove box.
- Remove plastic panel covering the bottom of the center dash section. Two (2) plastic pins hold this piece on. Remove two (2) screws from the lower dash section.
- Remove six (6) screws from inside storage pocket.
- Remove panel from below steering column
- Remove main dash panel
- Remove two (2) 8mm machine screws from the bottom rear of radio. The radio can be taken out after unplugging the harness, ant., etc.
2002-06 HONDA CRV
- Remove the (2) phillips screws from the radio/vent trim assembly (located below the vents).
- Starting at the bottom of the radio/vent trim assembly, carefully pry the panel away from the dash.
- Disconnect the hazard harness from the radio/vent trim bezel and remove bezel.
- Remove the (4) phillips screws securing the factory radio to the sub-dash.
- Pull the radio forward, disconnect the radio’s wire harness(‘s) and antenna lead and remove the radio.
2003-06 HONDA ELEMENT/2007-11 HONDA ELEMENT LX
- Unclip trim bezel from around radio. There are (2) slots on the bottom of the trim bezel.
- Remove the (4) 8mm bolts securing factory radio to the sub-dash.
- Pull radio forward, disconnect wire harness and antenna lead, and remove radio.
KIT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1995-98 HONDA ODYSSEY/1996-99 IZUSU OASIS
DASH DISASSEMBLY
- Open the glove box door and remove the single plastic/rubber retainer stoppers on each side of the glove box.
- Remove the (1) Phillips screw from the retaining arm on the right side of the glove box and lower glove box down out of the way.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws the bottom of the center console just above the carpet.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws from the right side of the center console.
- Open the console storage pocket and remove the (2) Phillips screws from the upper section.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws from the under-dash panel on the drivers side and pop out the right side to allow removal of the (1) Phillips screw on the left side of the center console.
- Carefully pull back on the lower console assembly to unplug the harnesses and remove console.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws securing each side of the drink tray and remove drink tray.
- Remove the (2) 5/16 screws securing the factory radio to the sub-dash (located below the radio at the rear).
- Carefully pull radio forward, disconnect wire harness and antenna lead and remove radio.
1999-04 HONDA ODYSSEY
- Gently pry outward on radio trim bezel.
- Disconnect all harnesses and remove.
- Remove (4) Phillips screws that secure the radio.
- Slide radio forward.
- Disconnect wire harness and antenna lead.
- Remove radio.
1989-91 HONDA PRELUDE
- Remove the (2) phillips screws from the bottom edge of the climate controls.
- Remove the (3) phillips screws from each side of the center console.
- Set the emergency brake.
- Remove the (1) plastic beauty cap from the end of the center console and remove the (2) phillips screws from this location.
- Carefully pull the rear console section back and remove.
- Place the gear shift lever all the way to the rear position.
- Carefully slide front center console section back and remove.
- Remove the (4) phillips screws securing the radio mounting trim bezel to the radio bracket assembly.
- Remove the (1) phillips screw from each side of the sub-dash securing the radio/trim bezel assembly to the sub-dash.
- Disconnect ashtray and lighter harnesses from the dash console, and pull radio assembly forward.
- Disconnect all harnesses from the radio/console assembly and remove.
- Remove the (2) phillips screws securing the factory radio to the mounting bracket assembly.
- Remove the (1) phillips screw securing the factory pocket to the radio bracket assembly and remove pocket.
1992-96 HONDA PRELUDE
- Remove (2) screws above the radio area top of the console
- Remove four (4) screws from the side of the console area
- Move console enough to get to the (2) screws holding the shifter bracket to the console
- Remove four(4) screws holding the radio trim panel and then remove the radio assembly.
1997-01 HONDA PRELUDE
- Using a panel tool carefully pry upward on the radio dash bezel and remove
- Remove (2) screws holding the radio sub dash piece in place and remove
- Remove (4) screws holding the radio to the radio sub dash.
- Reinstall the factory sub radio dash section and snap in the HONK-828
1997-99 ACURA CL
- Unsnap the dash panel and unplug the clock connector .
- Remove (2) 8mm screws from the radio and unplug connectors and remove factory radio.
1990-93 ACURA INTEGRA
- Remove (3) screws from the sides of the center console and remove the console.
- Remove (2) screws holding the factory unit to the sub dash support bracket.
- Remove the factory radio pocket from the dash cavity.
1994-01 ACURA INTEGRA
- Using a panel tool pry outward on the cap under the emergency brake and remove. Remove the (2) screws in that area.
- Remove (1) screw from each rear corner of the lower console and remove.
- Remove the ashtray and the (2) screws from the rear of that area.
- Unsnap the housing and unplug the connectors and remove the housing. Remove the shifter and unsnap the trim piece.
- Remove (1) screw from each rear corner of the upper console and (2) screw from below the radio opening.
- Remove the console bezel.
- Remove (2) 8mm screws holding the factory radio in place.
- Disconnect the connector and remove radio.
1994-01 ACURA INTEGRA
- Using a panel tool pry outward on the cap under the emergency brake and remove. Remove the (2) screws in that area.
- Remove (1) screw from each rear corner of the lower console and remove.
- Remove the ashtray and the (2) screws from the rear of that area.
- Unsnap the housing and unplug the connectors and remove the housing. Remove the shifter and unsnap the trim piece.
- Remove (1) screw from each rear corner of the upper console and (2) screw from below the radio opening.
- Remove the console bezel.
- Remove (2) 8mm screws holding the factory radio in place.
- Disconnect the connector and remove radio.
1990-96 ACURA LEGEND
- Remove (2) screws below the ashtray and unclip the dash panel
- Unplug the lighter and remove the panel.
- Remove the (2) screws holding the rear of the factory radio to the sub dash.
- Unplug radio connector and remove radio.
1996-98 ACURA TL
- Starting from the bottom, carefully unclip and remove the trim bezel from around radio and climate controls.
- Unplug the wire harnesses for the climate control and rear defroster and remove the trim bezel.
- Remove the (4) Phillips screws securing the factory radio/trim bezel to the sub-dash.
- Carefully pull radio forward, disconnect wire harness(s) and antenna lead and remove radio/trim bezel assembly.
- Loosen the (2) Phillips screws securing the back of the factory radio to the metal frame, and remove radio.
1992-94 ACURA VIGOR
- Remove the access cap from the climate control and (1) screw from there.
- Unsnap the cluster and remove (2) screws from the ashtray area.
- Remove each cap and screw from the front of the console.
- Remove (2) screws from the storage compartment and remove it.
- Unsnap the dash panel and unplug the connectors.
- Remove (2) 8mm screws from the rear of the factory radio and unplug radio connector and remove radio.
2006-11 HONDA CIVIC
KIT PREPARATION
2006-11 HONDA CIVIC
RADIO DELETE
- For vehicles with radio delete (not factory radio equipped)
- Unsnap and remove the radio delete panel.
NOTE:
For all vehicles equipped with factory radio excluding factory navigation
radio, part# HCB-8800 is required and sold separately in 2 colors,Graphite
Black or Gun Metal.
2006-11 HONDA CIVIC
DASH DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
- Carefully pull forward to release then remove the trim panel below the steering column.
- Remove the (1) Phillips screw located below the lower left edge of the Drivers instrument gauge trim bezel.
- Lower the steering wheel all the way down.
- Carefully unclip and pull forward the entire instrument gauge trim bezel Be careful not to scratch the radio trim fascia), disconnect all attached harnesses and remove bezel.
- From inside the pocket located below the climate controls, remove the panel from the top of the pocket to allow access to the (2) 5/16 screws securing the Radio/Climate control assembly to the sub-dash.
- Remove the (2) 5/16 screws (they are located at about a 25 degree angle inside the opening at the top of the pocket towards the outer edges).
- Carefully pull the entire Radio/Climate control assembly forward, disconnect all attached harnesses and antenna lead and remove the entire assembly.
HCB-8800 BEZEL ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
- Remove the (3) Phillips screws securing the Vent to the rear of the factory radio/climate control assembly and attach same location on the rear of the HCB-8800 bezel.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws securing the passenger airbag on/off light fixture to the rear of the factory radio/climate control assembly and attach same location on the rear of the HCB-8800 bezel.
- Remove the (2) Phillips screws securing the hazard light switch to the rear of the factory radio/climate control assembly and attach same location on the rear of the HCB-8800 bezel.
- Remove the (4) Phillips screws securing the climate control module to the rear of the factory radio/climate control assembly and attach same location on the rear of the HCB-8800 bezel.
