Door Hole Cutout
-
Step 1: Choose the Installation Position
Choose the installation position that best suits your pet(s) needs. The top of the pet door opening should be 2 inches higher than the highest point on your tallest dog’s back. The bottom of the pet door opening should be low enough for your smallest dog to walk over it comfortably, but must be at least 3 inches higher than the bottom of the door you are mounting it on. -
Step 2: Tape the Template
Once you’ve found the desired location, tape the included template to a suitable location on the door, preferably centered. -
Step 3: Drill Holes
Using a drill and a long enough bit, drill 4 holes, one at the inside of each corner of your outline, all the way through to the outside. -
Step 4: Trace and Cut
On the door, find the four pilot holes and trace an outline around them on the outside, matching your inside drawing. Double-check for level and plumb. Use blue painters tape around the outer edge to avoid damaging the door with the saw boot. -
Step 5: Cut with Saw
Using a jigsaw or sawzall, cut around the edge of the outline. Remove debris and use a level to ensure the lines are level and plumb. -
Step 6: Check Fit
Remove any unnecessary pieces and clean the area. Try fitting the door to ensure it fits properly. Make any additional adjustments if necessary.
Installing the Door
-
Step 1: Apply Silicone
Apply a generous bead of silicone around the cutout on both sides of the door where you’re mounting your dog door. This creates a weather-proof seal. -
Step 2: Insert the Door
Insert the external half of the frame from outside the house. Then insert the internal half of the frame from inside the house and ensure everything fits properly. Make adjustments if needed.

Door Hole Cutout
-
Step 1
Choose the installation position that best suits your pet(s) needs. (The top of the pet door opening should be 2” higher than the highest point on your tallest dog’s back. The bottom of the pet door opening should be low enough for your smallest dog to walk over it comfortably, but must be at least 3” higher than the bottom of the door you are mounting it on.) -
Step 2
Once you’ve found the desired location, make sure there aren’t any secondary doors or drop offs to the outside that would make the door difficult for the dog to use. Tape the included template to a suitable location (preferably centered on the door). -
Step 3
Using your drill and a long enough bit, drill 4 holes, one at the inside of each corner of your outline, all the way through to the outside. -
Step 4
On the door, find the four pilot holes and trace an outline around them (on the outside) so that it matches your inside drawing. Double check again to be sure your lines are all level and plumb. We recommend putting blue painters tape around the outer edge to avoid damaging the door with the saw boot. -
Step 5
When your outline has been drawn and taped, cut around the edge with your saw (preferably a jigsaw or sawzall). When this is done and the debris is removed, use your level to check that your lines are level and plumb. -
Step 6
Remove all the pieces that you don’t need and clean the area so you can try the door to make sure it fits and there is no need for any more cutting.
Installing the Door
-
Step 1
Apply a generous bead of silicone around the cutout on both sides of the door that you’re mounting your dog door in. This creates a weather-proof seal. -
Step 2
Insert the external half from outside of the house. Then insert the internal half of the frame from inside of the house, and make sure everything fits. Make adjustments if it doesn’t fit. -
Step 3
Use clamps to hold the internal and external frame pieces in place in the door. The clamps can be placing in a way that will hold the swing doors open. Make sure the dog door is level before proceeding to the next step, or loosen the clamps and readjust the frame to make it level. -
Step 4
Drill at least 2 holes in both sides of the frame to secure the dog door to the door it is being attached to. -
Step 5
Caulk the inside edge where the interior and exterior halves of the dog door frame meet. We recommend Clear caulk for this part.
Important: Please make sure not to put too much pressure with the clamps so you don’t bend or break the door sides. -
Step 6
Apply a silicone bead around the outer frame of the dog door, inside and outside of the house, to provide a neat finish. Apply another bead inside the frame, where the overlapping ends, to complete the installation with a neat finish.
Tip: Remember to take off all the blue plastic which protects the door from getting scratches. -
Step 7
Attach the lift knob to the security panel by feeding the nipple anchor through the panel’s hole. On the other side of the panel, place the washer over the threading and twist the knob over it in a clockwise direction until secure.
Tip: Allow the silicone beads to dry for 2 hours before removing the clamps. The silicone should completely set for approximately 24 hours.
