OPERATION

Intended Use

The twist drill sharpener is intended to sharpen steel drill bits according to DIN 338, DIN 340, DIN 345, DIN 1869 and DIN 1897 (MODEL Type N). Carbide twist drills must not be sharpened with this unit

Operation – Sharpening a Twist Drill

  1. Fully lower the grinding stone. Turn the rotary switch (4) counter clockwise up to the end in direction DOWN.
  2. Insert the twist drill into the suitable drill guide (1). The exact sizes (Ø) of each drill are shown on the cover (6) in centimetres and inches. Turn the twist drill clockwise until you notice that the drill is engaged.
  3. For switching on the unit, press the ON/OFF switch (5) in direction I. Turn the rotary switch (4) in direction UP, until you hear a grinding noise.
    • Hints: With the rotary switch you can adjust the position of the grinding stone. The further you turn the rotary switch in direction UP, the greater the pressure will be. Do not turn the rotary switch too far up, as the grinding stone will strike the housing.
  4. Slightly pull the twist drill up and turn it through 180° (horizontally) and insert it again unit it touches the grinding stone. Repeat the process until both cutting edges of the twist drill are sharp.
  5. Switch off the unit by pressing the ON/OFF switch (5) in direction 0.

Hints

  • Badly damaged twist drills should first be coarsely sharpened on a sharpening block.
  • Both cutting edges (b) must have the same angle to the drill axis (a) and have the same length so that the drill runs concentrically.
  • Control the grinding operation so that the angle between the main and the transverse cutting edges for a standard twist drill is 118°.
  • After operating the motor for maximum 3 minutes, allow the unit to cool down for 7 minutes.

Replacing the Grinding Stone

Before changing the grinding stone, pull the power plug from the wall socket.
There is risk of injury!
Change the grinding stone if it is worn out or damaged (e. g. irregular sharpening results or if the stone is broken).

  1. Unscrew the screws from the cover with a cross slot screwdriver and remove the cover (6). Take out the grinding stone with the holder.
  2. Loosen the grinding stone holder with a 20 mm spanner.
    • Note LEFT-HAND THREAD! For loosening turn clockwise!
  3. Remove the metal washer. Mount the new grinding stone with the flattened edge facing downwards on the holder and re-insert the metal washer.
  4. Tighten the threaded connection by using a 20 mm spanner. Note LEFT-HAND THREAD! For tightening turn counter clockwise!
  5. Place the grinding stone back into the unit. Turn the grinding stone until it fits into place. Otherwise the cover cannot be screwed on the housing. Re-tighten the cover on the housing.
