Testing Your MoCA Network Adapters
MoCA Adapters Basic Testing
A quick validation on your network speed & device functioning

Unbox your MoCA 2.5 Network Adapters and connect the respective power adapters to the power outlet
-
Connect your modem/router to one of the LAN ports of your first MoCA adapter using a LAN cable
-
Connect the MoCA port of the first MoCA device to the MoCA port of second MoCA device using a coax cable
IMPORTANT : When the MoCA LED is GREEN on both adapters, your adapters have established a connection. -
Connect a networking device using a LAN cable to either of the network ports on the second MoCA adapter and test connection.
Note:
You may use both the Ethernet ports. There are two Gigabit Ethernet ports that
can be used as a HUB to connect to more than one networking device. It is
important that you do not form a loop in your connection.

Connect your Adapter to a power outlet

Connect one ethernet cable from the router to the TL-MC84 Network Adapter

Connect a coax cable from the MoCA port on the Network Adapter to the coax wall outlet
Note:
If you have a splitter, make sure the splitter is a MoCA splitter that supports frequencies up to 1675MHz.
(Splitter Connection: Connect a splitter to the coax cable coming from the coax outlet on the wall and then connect a coax cable from the splitter to the MoCA port of the Network Adapter)
POE Filter: A POE filter may be used at the point of entry if needed.

Connect your Adapter to a power outlet

Locate the coax wall outlet and connect a coax cable from the wall outlet to the MoCA port of the Network Adapter.
IMPORTANT : When the MoCA LED is GREEN on both adapters, your adapters have established a connection -
Connect a networking device using a LAN cable to either of the network ports and test connection

Connect one ethernet cable from the Cable Modem to the TL-MC84 Network Adapter

Connect a MoCA splitter to the coax cable coming from the coax outlet on the wall.
Note: make sure the splitter is a MoCA splitter that supports frequencies up to 1675MHz. -
Connect one coax cable from the splitter to the MoCA port of the Network Adapter and another coax cable from the same splitter to the coax port of the cable modem.
Note:
If you have a TV or set top box near your modem, connect a coax cable from the splitter to the TV or set top box. POE Filter: A POE filter may be used at the point of entry if needed.

DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem Settings
DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem
If you are using a DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem, changes on the network adapters will have to be made. You may follow the steps below
- Log in to the network adapter using the default IP address 192.168.144.200. For login procedure refer pg. 18
- Click on TL-MC84 Settings and make sure D-Ext and D-Low are unchecked
- The LOF has to be changed to 1400 as well
- Once steps 2 and 3 are completed, save the settings and after reboot, the adapters will be compatible in DOCSIS 3.1 environment
Ensure all the adapters are unplugged from the network and then the above steps are followed for each of the adapters, one at a time.
Note : For DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, the default firmware that comes
installed on the device should work as is.

Step-by-step procedure

Connect your computer/laptop directly to the MoCA adapter

Make sure all the coax connections should be removed from the MoCA adapter The only connection should be the ethernet cable from the laptop/computer to the MoCA adapter

On your computer, click on ‘Search’ icon and search for ‘Settings’ (Fig.1)
-
Under Settings, click on ‘Network and internet’ (Fig.2)
-
Click on Ethernet option (Fig.3)
-
Click on ‘Edit’ button next to ‘IP Assignment’ (Fig.4)
-
In the dialog box that pops up, select ‘Manual’ from the drop-down option (Fig.5)
-
Enable the IPv4 button (Fig.6)
-
Set the IP address as indicated below
Note: In case ‘Subnet prefix length’ is required instead of ‘Subnet mask’, specify the value as ‘24’ as indicated in Fig.10 -
Open your web browser and enter the default device IP which is 192.168.144.200
-
Login with the username and password
Username: admin
Password: admin
Note: Make sure to revert the changes back to ‘Automatic (DHCP)’ in your laptop/ computer (refer Fig.5) after logging out of the device.

Click on ‘TL-MC84 settings’ to check which Band is ‘checked’
Note: For DOCSIS 3.1 setup, please refer page 16 -
Click on ‘Security settings’ and for the selected bands (as in Fig.1), select the ‘Security Enabled’ check box and provide the password (Fig.2 – a).
Note: In case of DOCSIS 3.1 setup, the band ‘D-High’ should be chosen. -
Click on ‘Save’ (Fig.2 – b)

Disable the ‘Enhanced Privacy Enabled’ option (Fig.2 – c)

Click on Save (Fig.2 – d)

Reboot the device after the above changes have been made (Fig.2 – e)

Within a span of 2 minutes, press the MPS button on the first adapter followed by the MPS button on the second adapter to establish the MPS connection (Fig.3)
-
For all additional adapters, repeat step 7 by pressing the MPS button again on the first adapter followed by the MPS button on the new adapter within a span of 2 minutes.
