**GENERAL

**

Mounting tubeless systems on bicycles requires some skill and experience in many cases. Since there is no uniform basis of the systems used with each other, it may happen that two components are not compatible with each other. In addition to this user manual, refer to the instructions of the components used in the tubeless system.
CAUTION

DANGER DUE TO INCORRECT HANDLING OF THE SEALING FLUID!
Note the following:

  • Keep away from children!
  • Do not swallow!
  • In case of accidental swallowing, do not try to vomit, but consult a doctor immediately!
  • In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice!

2.1 INTENDED USE
The DT Swiss sealing fluid may be used exclusively for sealing tubeless bicycle tires.
We recommend using the DT Swiss sealing fluid exclusively in conjunction with DT Swiss rims or wheels, the DT Swiss tubeless tape, DT Swiss tubeless valves and tubeless tires.
DT Swiss does not guarantee the function of the sealing fluid, as we have no influence on the other components of the tubeless system.
Only the High Pressure Sealant may be used in tubular systems, in tubes and in conjunction with CO2 cartridges.

PUTTING SEALING FLUID INTO THE TIRES

3.1 PREREQUISITES FOR THE USE OF THE SEALING FLUID
Make sure that a matching tubeless tape is applied to the rim and a tubeless valve is mounted. The tire must be intended for tubeless use. If in doubt, check the tire manufacturer’s specifications. Inflating the tire is best done with a compressor or a special tubeless pump.
PRO-TIP: To ensure that the tire seats reliably on the rim flange, some tires require a high air flow. To achieve the highest possible air flow, the valve insert can be screwed out of the valve body during initial inflation.

There are two methods to fill the sealant into the tire.

  • Method 1: “3.2 Filling sealing fluid through the valve“ on page 9.
With this method, the tire can be inflated to the point where the tire bead sits in its seat in the rim flange before the sealant is added. The air is then released again and the sealing fluid is filled through the valve.
Advantages: Less spilling, easy refilling of sealing fluid

  • Method 2:“3.3 Filling sealing fluid into the partially mounted tire“ on page 9.
With this method, the tire is mounted only that far, that sealant can still be filled in in one spot. After that, the tire can be fully mounted and inflated.
Advantages: Better control of the sealant quantity, larger containers of sealant cannot be plugged onto the valve, therefore this method eliminates the need for decanting for filling according to method 1.

3.2 FILLING SEALING FLUID THROUGH THE VALVE
With this method, the tire can be inflated to the point where the tire bead sits in its seat in the rim flange before the sealant is added. The air is then released again and the sealing fluid is filled through the valve.

  1. Turn the wheel so that the valve is in 8 o’clock or 4 o’clock position.

  2. Screw the valve insert out of the valve body.

  3. Shake the bottle with the sealant vigorously for at least 10 seconds and quickly fill the required amount through the valve body into the tire.
→ The amount of sealing fluid depends on the type of tire.

  4. Screw the valve insert into the valve body and inflate the tire.
→ Make sure the tire is properly seated on the rim.
→ The maximum tire pressure of the wheel and of the tire used must not be exceeded.

  5. Rotate and shake the tire to distribute the sealant in the tire.

3.3 FILLING SEALING FLUID INTO THE PARTIALLY MOUNTED TIRE
With this method, the tire is mounted only that far, that sealant can still be filled in in one spot. After that, the tire can be fully mounted and inflated.

  1. Turn the wheel so that the dismounted part of the tire is in 6 o’clock position.

  2. Shake the bottle with the sealant vigorously for at least 10 seconds and quickly fill the required amount into the tire.
→ The amount of sealing fluid depends on the type of tire.

  3. Mount the tire completely and inflate the tire.
→ Make sure the tire is properly seated on the rim.
→ The maximum tire pressure of the wheel and of the tire used must not be exceeded.

  4. Rotate and shake the tire to distribute the sealant in the tire.

BEFORE THE RIDE

The tire system must be checked for pressure loss before each ride. The bicycle must not be used if it is damaged or there are any signs of damage. In cases of doubt, please contact a DT Swiss Service Center. The addresses of the DT Swiss Service Centers can be found on the back of this manual or at www.dtswiss.com.

STORAGE, MAINTENANCE AND CARE

Sealing fluid must be stored in a cool and dry place.
The following care and maintenance tasks should be performed regularly for unrestricted function:

  • After the ride, check if traces of sealing fluid are visible on the tire. This may indicate a sealed puncture or leak. In this case, check the amount of sealant in the tire and top up if necessary.
  • We recommend replacing the sealing fluid after 1 to 6 months, depending on the type of use.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Issue Reason Solution
System does not seal Tubeless tape was applied incorrectly or is worn out

Install new tubeless tape
Tire is not intended for tubeless use| Use a tubeless compatible tire
The tubeless valve was inserted crooked| Align tubeless valve
Tire bead and / or rim flange is dirty| Clean tire and rim
Tire does not „pop“ onto the rim| Air flow in the tires is too low| Use special pump for tubeless tires with higher air flow or a compressor
Disassemble the valve insert of the tubeless valve and inflate the tire. Release the air again, screw in the valve insert and try to inflate the tire again.
Air escapes after a short time| See “System does not seal”
Sealing fluid was not distributed in the tire after inflation| Rotate and shake the tire to distribute the sealant in the tire
No issue. A slight pressure loss is normal| Check tire pressure before each ride
