FEATURES
-
Automatic protection circuitry – Each amplifier channel is individually and fully protected against low impedance, overheating, overloading, over-voltage, and under voltage. The protection circuitry automatically restores the sound once the affected amplifier channel returns to the safe operating area.
-
Individual input gain adjustment – Each channel features an input gain adjustment to adjust the channel for volume, gain, and speaker sensitivity variations.
-
External power on/off – The amplifier can be turned off and on by external controllers. To activate external power “on”, apply a 12VDC current to the trigger jack using a compatible power supply. As long as the 12VDC is applied, the amplifier will remain on. The amplifier power switch should be in the “off” position for external power control.
-
Link Feature – The Link button is normally set to the “in” position to give all six stereo inputs individual sources. When the Link button is set to the
“out” position, that input Left/Right is internally linked or cascaded to the source connected to input #1. Any of the five inputs (2 through 6) can be linked individually in any combination with the #1 input. When all inputs are linked to input #1 the input impedance is about 8500 Ohms.
NOTE: When linked, unused RCA inputs can be used as outputs to other amplifiers. -
Cooling fan – The AE6MA features a thermostatically controlled internal fan to help to avoid overheating and keep all channels within the safe operating area so that the likelihood of the protection circuitry being activated is reduced. The fan also helps maximize energy efficiency.
INSTALLATION
- WARNING: TO BE INSTALLED AND/OR USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPROPRIATE ELECTRICAL CODES AND REGULATIONS.
- WARNING: IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT ANY PART OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS, CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
- CAUTION: Never listen to a sound that is distorted. If distorted sound is heard, turn the volume down immediately or speaker and/or amplifier damage could occur that is not covered by the warranty.
- CAUTION: The AE6MA contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open or repair the AE6MA.
User Adjustments and Service: There are no user adjustments on the AE6MA. Your installer may make certain gain-level adjustments on the rear panel.
- The most important consideration when installing the AE6MA is cooling, since the amplifier packs a lot of audio power into a small-sized chassis. When installing the amplifier in an equipment stack, it should be the top component. Make sure to leave at least 3-5 inches (76.19mm-127mm) of space above the amplifier to allow for adequate cooling.
- Never operate the AE6MA on its side, as it will impair the unit’s cooling and void the warranty.
- Connect the AE6MA RCA inputs to the source component outputs using good-quality RCA cables. Connect each channel individually, unless using the Link feature.
- Connect the AE6MA speaker outputs to speakers using good quality speaker wire. It is recommended that 18 AWG speaker wires be used for runs up to 50 feet (15 m). For runs from 50-150 feet (15-45 m), 16AWG speaker wire should be used. And for runs over 150 feet (45 m), 14 AWG speaker wires should be used. Make sure the wire used is correctly rated for installation inside walls, ceilings, or floors. Check local codes for complete information.
- Impedance ratings (speakers): the AE6MA amplifier is designed to operate speakers with nominal impedance ratings between 6-8 Ohms. Connecting the amplifier to a speaker with a rating below 6 Ohms may result in the protection circuitry being activated and the channel being shut down. The amplifier should never be connected to a speaker rated at above 8 Ohms or below 4 Ohms. Failure to observe this could potentially cause damage to the amplifier.
- Individually adjust the channel gains as required. Ideally, all gains are fully on (fully clockwise).
- Make sure the speakers in each room are connected in-phase with the amplifier, i.e. the speaker wire from amplifier + going to the speaker +. NOTE: If the speakers are connected out-of-phase it will usually result in poor stereo imaging and bass response.
- The AE6MA is equipped with a trigger port that allows it to be remotely turned on and off. The power supply for the trigger port to function needs to be 12VDC 35mA minimum, with a 3.5mm plug. 5VDC triggers will not work.
- Connect the AC power into an outlet that can supply at least 6 amps (750 watts) dedicated to the AE6MA.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If a problem is encountered with the AE6MA amplifier, the most expedient procedure is to locate the problem and if possible repair it before requesting service. Be sure to carefully check other system components such as controllers, CD players, volume controls, wiring, speakers, etc. that may be at fault.
Power led does not light – no sound
- Check that the AE6MA amplifier is plugged in.
- Test the AC outlet with a lamp.
- If remote on/off is used, check that the trigger voltage is at 12VDC.
- Check to see if the AE6MA power button is on (in).
Sound cuts out
- Verify speaker impedance is 4-16 ohms. Changing speakers may be required.
- Check if the amp feels hot. If it’s hot, increase cooling – see Installation note #1.
Sound is distorted
- Turn the volume down.
- Check speakers for damage.
- Check inputs for proper levels. AE6MA amplifier gain and source output level may have to be adjusted.
- Speakers may be less than 4 ohms.
AE6MA does not turn off
- Turn AE6MA power switch off (out).
- If trigger is being used, power switch needs to be set to off (out) position, or the amplifier is on all the time.
- Try disconnecting trigger jack.
Trigger does not work
- Measure trigger voltage with a volt meter. It needs to be 11-15 volts DC to work (current is 35mA per AE6MA) – see Installation note #8.
Speaker pops when amp turned on or off
- Speaker may need resistor placed across terminal. Suggest 1/4 w 2k Ohm. This resistor discharges the speakers internal capacitor.
SAFETY INFORMATION
- Use a 120-volt AC current with this unit. Using any other line voltage may create a safety and fire hazard and may cause damage to the unit. For questions concerning voltage requirements, contact a qualified electrician.
- Use only the power cord attached to the unit. To prevent safety hazards, do not use extension cords. Replace damaged power cords immediately through an authorized service center.
- Do not open the cabinet. This unit contains no user serviceable parts. Any modification to the unit will void the warranty. If any foreign object such as water or a paper clip falls into the unit, unplug the unit and consult an authorized service center.
- Place the unit on a firm, level surface that can support the weight of the unit. This will ensure proper operation and avoid potential safety hazards.
- Make sure to provide ventilation space above and below the unit, whether installed inside or outside of a cabinet or other enclosed area. A fan may be required under some circumstances.
- Do not place the unit directly on a carpeted surface.
- Avoid unit placement in extreme hot or cold locations, or in an area exposed to direct sunlight or heating equipment.
- Avoid moist or humid locations.
- Do not obstruct the ventilation slots on top of the unit.
- To clean the unit, wipe with clean, soft, dry cloth. A soft cloth dampened with mild soapy water, and then a fresh cloth with water may be used, if necessary. Wipe dry immediately with a dry cloth. NEVER use a cleaning agent besides mild soap.
- Before moving the unit, make sure to disconnect all interconnection cords to other components, and the AC outlet connection.
- The carton and shipping materials used to protect the unit during shipment are designed to cushion it from shock and vibration. It is suggested that you save the carton and packaging materials to ship or move the unit in the future.
