To update the drive firmware using the Storage Center software, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that your system is connected to the internet.
  2. Launch the Storage Center software on your Dell system.
  3. Navigate to the “Firmware Updates” section.
  4. Select the drive firmware update corresponding to your product ID and existing firmware version from the provided table.
  5. Check the priority assigned to the update (Urgent/Recommended) and proceed accordingly.
  6. Click on the “Apply Update” button to initiate the firmware update process.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Update Priority

The following sections list the drive firmware updates by software version and product ID. Each update is assigned a priority to indicate when to perform the update:

  • Urgent—Dell highly recommends applying this update as soon as possible. The update contains changes to improve the reliability and availability of your Dell system.
  • Recommended—Dell recommends applying this update during your next scheduled update cycle. The update contains feature enhancements or changes that will help keep your system software current and compatible with other system modules (firmware, BIOS, drivers and software).
  • Optional—Dell recommends the customer review specifics about the update to determine if it applies to your system. The update contains changes that impact only certain configurations, or provides new features that may or may not apply to your environment.
    NOTE : Storage Center version 6.6.x and later supports plug-and-play discovery for most new drive introductions. Drive firmware package updates are not needed to accept new drives. Plug-and-play discovery support for 4K sector drives (8 TB, 10 TB, and 12 TB) requires Storage Center version 7.1.1 or later.

The 2023 Q1 firmware update package contains drive firmware updates for the following versions of Storage Center:
