VIMAR 10337 Dimmer
Product Information
The IDEA 16556 is a dimmer designed for resistive loads and ferromagnetic
transformers. It does not have a radio interference suppression filter. The
dimmer can be controlled and regulated using a rotary potentiometer, and it is
visible in the darkness. It operates at different voltage and power
specifications depending on the model:
- Model 08336, 10336, 16556, 18556: 230 V~ 50-60 Hz, with a power range of 60-900 W and a voltage range of 60-300 VA.
- Model 10337, 18557: 120 V~ 50-60 Hz, with a power range of 30-500 W and a voltage range of 30-300 VA.
The dimmer can be connected in various ways, as indicated in the following diagrams:
- A: Instead of a switch
- B: In addition to a switch
- C: In a circuit with two or more operating points (2-way switches, reversing switches)
- D: In a circuit with a 1-way switch relay actuated through pushbuttons
Product Usage Instructions
To use the IDEA 16556 dimmer, follow these steps:
- Decide on the appropriate connection method based on your specific requirements. Refer to the diagrams provided in the user manual for guidance.
- Ensure that the power supply matches the voltage specifications of your dimmer model
- For models 08336, 10336, 16556, and 18556, use a 230 V~ 50-60 Hz power supply. For models 10337 and 18 57, use a 120 V~ 50-60 Hz power supply.
- If connecting the dimmer in series with a load, follow the instructions provided in the user manual for the selected connection method (A, B, C, or D).
- Use the rotary potentiometer to control and regulate the dimming level. The potentiometer should be easily accessible for convenient operation.
- If using the dimmer in darkness, take advantage of its visibility feature.

- 08336 – 10336 – 16556 – 18556:
- 230 V~ 50-60 Hz 60-900 W 60-300 VA
- 10337 – 18557: 120 V~ 50-60 Hz 30-500 W 30-300 VA
Characteristics
- Regulation by rotary actuating knob: the indicator lamp brightness decreases as the loaded lamp’s brightness increases.
- Equipment to be used in dry, dusty locations, at room temperature between – 5 °C and +35 °C.
Controllable loads
08336, 10336, 16556, 18556:
- Incandescent and halogen lamps 60-900 W 230 V~ 50-60 Hz
- Ferromagnetic transformers for extra low voltage halogen lamps 60-300 VA 230 V~ 50-60 Hz
10337, 18557
- Incandescent and halogen lamps 30-500 W 120 V~ 50-60 Hz
- Ferromagnetic transformers for extra low voltage halogen lamps 30-300 VA 120 V~ 50-60 Hz
Connection
The dimmer can be connected to both phase-neutral and phase-phase, in series
with the load as indicated in the following diagrams:
- stead of a switch
- in addition to a switch
- in a circuit with two or more operating points (2-way switches, reversing switches)
- in a circuit with a 1-way switch relay actuated through pushbuttons
Warnings
- Overloads, arcing, and short circuits will irreparably damage the dimmer.
- Before the installation, a careful circuit inspection must be made to eliminate the above-mentioned causes.
- The rated load must never be exceeded.
- The dimmer must not be exposed to direct heat sources.
- The dimmer does not provide a mechanical switch in the main circuit and does not provide a full ‘off state’.
- Therefore the circuit on the load side must be considered to be always live.
- Do not install more than one dimmer in the same box.
Installation rules
-
Disconnect the mains acting on the main switch before operating the system.
-
Use the yellow/green insulated conductors only for the connection to the earthing circuit.
-
Verify if the supply conductor’s cross-sectional area is sufficient for the fed load, in any case, it shall never be less than 1.5 mm2.
-
Clamp fully, with care, the conductors in the terminals. Faulty clampings can cause temperature rises high enough for fire risk.
-
The ferromagnetic transformers must be connected to the dimmer on the transformer primary and the load connected to the transformer secondary must be an ohmic load; they must be of the low losses type and must be
adequately oversized. The buzzer noise of the transformer at the middle setting level is normal. -
The line between the transformer and the load must never be cut out.
WEEE – Information for users
If the crossed-out bin symbol appears on the equipment or packaging, this means the product must not be included with other general waste at the end of its working life. The user must take the worn product to a sorted waste center or return it to the retailer when purchasing a new one. Products for disposal can be consigned free of charge (without any new purchase obligation) to retailers with a sales area of at least 400 m2 if they measure less than 25 cm. An efficient sorted waste collection for the environmentally friendly disposal of the used device, or its subsequent recycling, helps avoid the potential negative effects on the environment and people’s health and encourages the re-use and/or recycling of the construction materials.
