JUNG HOME: the smart home upgrade for every electrical installation
Building control with Bluetooth® SIG Mesh: JUNG HOME makes networking easier
than ever. The new system smartifies every building with no server, no
Internet, no hammer drill.Yet another system for building automation? A reasonable
question. There are, after all, mature solutions available. Generally, though,
they are not frequently in use. Sometimes the technology is too complex, the
planning too extensive, to push smart projects into the daily life of
electricians and specialist firms. 90 percent of the installations are still
installed conventionally.
As a result, JUNG is taking a new approach to the topic of digitalisation in
buildings with a system that is systematically tailored to the needs of the
trades. JUNG HOME is based on technology that is well-known and understood.
Planning, cabling and mounting is the same as a conventional electrical
installation, without devices in the distribution box or special wiring.
Building control with Bluetooth® SIG Mesh: JUNG HOME makes networking easier
than ever. The new system smartifies every building with no server, no
Internet, no hammer drill.
With this, virtually every home – whether old or new – already fulfills the
requirements for a digital infrastructure. Professional trades can offer
solutions without a great effort that save energy and heating costs, increase
comfort and contribute to climate protection. JUNG HOME makes it easy to meet
the increasing customer requests and demands of the building technology.
The advantages of the system JUNG HOME is …
From the socket with energy measurement function to the room thermostat in
the JUNG HOME, all components communicate wirelessly with each other. The
secure, worldwide wireless standard Bluetooth® SIG Mesh makes it possible.
In the JUNG HOME, there are no bus lines. To simplify the installation, the
devices exchange information wirelessly. The Bluetooth® Mesh SIG wireless
standard is used for this, which is an extension of the Bluetooth® protocol
proven millions of times. As the only Bluetooth® version in building
technology, it has been standardised by the official Bluetooth SIG, Inc.
(Special Interest Group) a prerequisite for smooth, manufacturer-independent
operation.
The mesh principle provides blanket wireless coverage: devices such as push-
buttons and sockets connected to the mains network serve as both transmitters
and receivers. They amplify incoming signals and send on commands. Because
their radio waves interlock like the threads of a fabric (hence “mesh”), the
stability of the network increases with every new node. And commands jump from
one device to the next one until they reach their goal, even when this is at
the other end of the building.
Thanks to automatic encryption and maintenance-free, self-organising, wireless
technology, the effort shrinks to a minimum. Even wireless software updates
for the devices while running are possible at any time over the mesh network.
The installation of JUNG HOME can begin with a SCHUKO® socket or a push-button
and can be extended as required from room to room or floor to floor.
Brilliantly simple: the smart socket
The JUNG HOME SCHUKO® socket replaces conventional socket inserts and
immediately makes the power connection switchable by push-button, with the
app and at the socket itself. An operating button with multicoloured backlight
indicates the operating status at the same time. The internal memory for up to
16 freely programmable timer programs with astro function and automatic summer
and winter time adjustment automates daily life. And if you want it even
smarter: the JUNG HOME SCHUKO® socket Energy additionally measures the energy
consumption for intelligent energy management, for example in the form of
automatic switching to standby.
Under the plaster: system inserts and actuators
Whether touch dimmer, switch insert or blinds insert: the flush-mounted range
covers all current application areas. A DALI push-button controller
additionally operates luminaires with the standardised lighting interface, the
room thermostat insert controls valve drives in the heating manifold or the
electric underfloor heating. With the JUNG HOME switch actuator with binary
inputs, among other things, external sensors can be integrated and loads up to
16 ampere switched. In this way, a conventional weather station finds its
place in the system and can control the awning when it is windy or raining.
In good shape: covers for control and operation
System inserts determine the function, the JUNG HOME cover controls the load.
As required, this can involve 1 or 2-gang push-buttons or an operating display
for the room temperature. JUNG even offers motion detectors for mounting on
the inserts and a presence detector. Every combination is immediately ready
for use after putting onto the centre plate. The cover holds the wireless
technology and can be taught easily using the JUNG HOME app on a smartphone as
well as allocated to rooms and included in scenes.
Completely untethered: wireless push-buttons with battery operation
There isn’t a wall box everywhere you want an operating point. In these
cases, the JUNG HOME push-button with battery power comes into its own. Thanks
to the adhesive film, it can be positioned freely and adheres to all smooth
surfaces, from wall tiles to bathroom mirrors and kitchen cabinets.
Alternatively, it can extend existing control units in a multiple frame from
the switch range without needing an extra installation box maximum
functional scope with minimum mounting effort.
Everything under control: the app from JUNG HOME
It is the core of the system. The JUNG HOME app for Android and iOS is
available in the app stores for Google and Apple as a free download. In only
three steps, installers can set up the smart home with it: they activate
pairing mode on the product with the press of a button and let the app search
for new Bluetooth® devices. Afterwards, the program helps in configuring the
devices, rooms and scenes. On the screen, the installer allocates the tasks to
the push-buttons. At the end, they only have to transfer the project
wirelessly to the customers’ smartphones and it is finished.
For voice control and more: the JUNG HOME gateway
In order to connect the encrypted, local, wireless network of JUNG HOME to the
outside world, there is the JUNG HOME gateway. It is certified by the VDE
Institute and has been awarded the “Smart Home Information Security Tested”
seal. The gateway establishes the contact between the local Bluetooth® SIG
Mesh and the secure JUNG Cloud. Cloud-based Internet services such as Amazon
Alexa or Google Home can communicate with the devices in the JUNG HOME in this
way. From 2023, a connection with Samsung SmartThings will also be possible.
The integration with the WORKS WITH mediola® manufacturer network enables
users to also link numerous IoT-compatible products with their home and, for
example, to control them using JUNG HOME push-buttons.
Application examples: JUNG HOME in practice
Building control with Bluetooth® SIG Mesh: JUNG HOME makes networking easier
than ever. The new system smartifies every building with no server, no
Internet, no hammer drill.
With JUNG HOME, professional trades can implement smart scenarios with no
effort that will impress their customers and generate added value. This pays
back in additional turnover.
Save heating costs
The dominant theme: with rising energy prices, the motivation to save is
increasing. The JUNG HOME room thermostat display gives precise control of the
heating. Individual timer programs can be specified for each room, and
interrupted if necessary with the app or on the wall display itself. One
movement is enough to activate the preset economy temperature. A good argument
for retrofitting in existing buildings, as in older buildings every degree
reduction in room temperature reduces the requirement for heating energy
particularly significantly.
Good morning in the bathroom **
**
A nicely heated bathroom that receives the residents with bright, friendly
lighting after they get up who doesn’t want that? The programmable heating
control of JUNG HOME and motion detectors with astro function provide heat and
light precisely when they are needed. The rest of the time, the bathroom
simply stays cooler to save energy, or the lamps go on dimmed for example in
the middle of the night when a bright light would dazzle the eyes.
Outfox the stand-by culprits
They are still among us – the inefficient electrical devices with high
stand-by consumption. The JUNG HOME SCHUKO® socket Energy doesn’t just get
wise to them, it also helps with the solution to the problem: thanks to the
energy measurement function, it can detect when the consumption sinks below a
preset threshold value when the device is switched off or standby mode begins.
The socket switches itself off independently and disconnects the stand-by
culprit from the mains.
Is the iron switched off?
Never mutter again about whether electrical loads at home have really been
switched off: a push-button from JUNG HOME only activates the socket for a
specified time. After 30 or 60 minutes it switches off on its own until the
next button press. The JUNG HOME app also shows the current operating state on
the smartphone. In this way, it is possible to check comfortably from the sofa
whether everything is in order. Very practical when the ironing area is in the
cellar, for example, or on a different floor.
Oh you joyful!
Christmas is definitely coming, and with it the electric Christmas tree
lights. Thanks to JUNG HOME, the chain of lights provides an atmosphere fully
automatically: two settings in the app are enough to ensure the JUNG HOME
SCHUKO® socket switches on automatically at dusk and switches it off again at
the normal bedtime. For even more control, the electrician can install a
wireless push-button as an additional control unit. In this way, the chain of
lights reacts like other switchable lamps in the room and can even become part
of a Christmas lighting scene.
Operating convenience at the bed
Central switches at the bed are standard in luxury hotels. JUNG HOME brings
this convenience home to the bedroom. System push-buttons can switch off the
light in the entire home when going to bed. During the night, they serve as
panic buttons that activate emergency lighting and open blinds on the
evacuation routes. In turn, in the morning they activate a scenario that
adjusts the light, shading and heating to the day. As JUNG HOME uses the
existing wiring, there is no need for structural alterations, and battery-
powered pushbuttons can be installed everywhere. That makes the customer
happy.
Goodbye
Lighting off, turn down the heating, close the shutters to the garden and
switch off all SCHUKO® sockets or devices that are not needed during your
absence: in JUNG HOME, a single press of a button does all of this. The
central 1-way switch positioned inside next to the front door gives
residents the security of not having forgotten anything. For specialist firms
it provides the possibility to demonstrate the advantages of smart living with
a concrete example across all rooms.
Questions and answers: FAQs on JUNG HOME
Any questions? Here you can find everything that specialist firms need to know about the new JUNG system packaged together at a glance.
What is the time needed and do I require special training?
The planning and mounting are no different to a conventional installation. As a result, no particular qualification or training is needed. The system inserts from JUNG HOME are installed as normal and provided with a smart centre plate where all the wireless technology can be found. Commissioning using the smartphone app only takes a few minutes. Video tutorials from JUNG show the process step by step.
Do the system inserts fit into standard wall boxes?
With the exception of the JUNG HOME SCHUKO sockets, all products fit into a standard wall box. The sockets have a large installation depth of 45 millimetres and need deep wall boxes. However, JUNG provides installation frames with an adapter ring as an accessory that increases the space from the socket housing to the back of the box. This allows the smart sockets to also fit into an existing, flat wall box.
How does the transfer to the customer work?
The JUNG HOME app with which the installer puts the system into operation saves all project data on the smartphone. The project file can be exported and transferred to the customer. As soon as the customer opens the project on their phone – also with the JUNG HOME app – they can access the devices and operate their home. There are various possibilities for transferring the file: a messaging service such as WhatsApp or Signal, as well as e-mail or a cloud storage service (Dropbox, OneDrive). The specialist firm can also export the project file to their own PC and save it there – as a backup copy in case the original configuration needs to be reinstated at a later time.

Why did JUNG decide on Bluetooth® SIG Mesh?
® Bluetooth wireless has been used in building technology for a long time. Some providers have developed their own solutions that are manufacturer- specific. That means they only work within their own product family. Devices from other brands cannot be integrated. That is different with Bluetooth SIG Mesh. The standard-setting Special Interest Group (SIG) ensures adherence to the standard. Furthermore, the protocol has already proved its stability: there are professional installations in commercial buildings and multi-storey car parks with hundreds of devices that work absolutely reliably.®
Is JUNG HOME compatible with other Bluetooth ® products?
Purely technically, all sensors and actuators come into question that use the Bluetooth SIG Mesh standard of the Special Interest Group (SIG). Commissioning is, however, only possible when the devices are added to the JUNG HOME app. In practice, JUNG tests from case to case whether the exchange works reliably, and only then releases third-party products for the app. ®
What is the radio range of the system?
The range of the entire mesh network depends on how many devices are installed and where they are installed. Thick walls and steel reinforcements can reduce the range as with all wireless solutions. In good conditions, distances of 30 metres between two participants are possible. If a more distant device cannot be reached, it is sufficient to install a JUNG HOME socket or a different device from the system connected to the electrical installation.
What happens with eNet SMART HOME now there is JUNG HOME?
JUNG eNet SMART HOME will continue to be produced. There is a large number of active systems and many installers who like to work with it. Due to its self- explanatory technology and simple configuration, JUNG HOME could open up new markets and enlarge the base for smart-home installations in general.
What are the differences to KNX?
JUNG HOME and KNX are difficult to compare. As the international standard for building automation, KNX offers many more possibilities. With the KNX range from JUNG and other manufacturers, experts can implement smart-building projects of almost any size and complexity. However, the installation of bus lines and parameterisation of the KNX devices demands significantly more time and requires special skills. JUNG HOME puts specialist trades in the position to fulfil customer requirements significantly more quickly, more easily and at an attractive price.
Is JUNG HOME compatible with the coming smart-home standard Matter?
The Matter standard is currently still in development, which is why it is too early to make an announcement. Due to the potential significance for end customers, JUNG is observing this topic carefully and will provide a solution if there is a demand for it that makes JUNG HOME compatible with Matter systems in the homes of the users.
