Product Usage Instructions

Operation

  1. Charging the battery:
    • Connect the USB charging cable to the charging port of the device.
    • Plug the USB-A connector of the USB charging cable into a power source.
    • When the battery is fully charged, all indicators will light up.

  4. When the battery is fully charged (100%), the battery charge indicator will show 100%.
  5. Operating charge status indication:
  * The battery charge indicator will show the current charge status during operation.
  1. Assembly:
    • Attach the telescopic handle if necessary.
    • Pull out the safety cover from the blade.
    • Slide the safety lock forward and pull the start lever towards the handle.
    • The device will start and the battery charge status will be displayed.
  2. Changing the blade: – Press the release buttons and remove the blade.
  3. Starting / Stopping the device:
  4. Starting without telescopic handle:
  * Remove the safety cover from the blade.
  * Slide the safety lock forward and pull the start lever towards the handle.
  * The device will start and the battery charge status will be displayed.
2. Starting with telescopic handle:
  * Attach the telescopic handle.
  * Remove the safety cover from the blade.
  * Press the start lever on the telescopic handle.
  * The device will start and the battery charge status will be displayed.
3. Stopping the device:
  1. The device will stop. Wait until the blade comes to a complete stop.

Maintenance

  • Use caution to avoid injury from the blade.
  • Clean the device with a damp cloth.
  • Do not expose the device to high-pressure water jets.
  • Remove the blade for cleaning if necessary.

Storage

  • Store the device in a closed and frost-proof place.

Troubleshooting

  • Use caution to avoid injury from the blade.
  • Follow the instructions for starting and stopping the device carefully.

OPERATION

DANGER!

  • Cutting injury due to the blade!

    • Wait for the blade to stop.
    • Slide the protective cover over the blade.

To charge the battery [ Fig. O1 ]:

CAUTION!: The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the charger.

  • Note the mains voltage.

The 5 V power supply unit with USB socket is not included. To use the battery shear, a USB power supply unit (5 V) with certified / country-specific standard approvals is required. To achieve the full charging speed and shortest charging time, a 2 A power supply unit is recommended. A USB power supply unit with lower current will extend the charging time. The battery is delivered partially charged. To ensure the full performance of the battery, fully charge the battery before the first use.

The battery shear does not function while charging.

  1. Open the dust cap (1).
  2. Plug the USB-C plug © of the supplied USB charging cable into the charging socket (2).
  3. Plug the USB-A plug (A) of the USB charging cable into the power supply unit.
  4. Connect the power supply unit into a mains socket. The battery is charging. The green LEDs ( (L1), (L2) and (L3) ) indicate the current charging progress. When the battery is fully charged, all 3 LEDs ( (L1), (L2) and (L3) ) light green for 300 seconds.
  5. Examine the charge status regularly while you charge.
  6. Disconnect the USB-C charging cable from the charging socket (2).
  7. Close the dust cap (1).

Battery charging indicator [ Fig. O2 ]:

  1. Battery charging indicator during charging:
  2. When the battery is completely charged (100 %), (L1), (L2) and (L3) light for 300 seconds.

Battery charging indicator: Battery charge status

  • (L1), (L2) and (L3) light: 100 % charged
  • (L1) and (L2) light, (L3) blinks: 66 – 99 % charged
  • (L1) lights, (L2) blinks: 33 – 65 % charged
  • (L1) blinks: 0 – 32 % charged

Battery charge status indicator during operation:

  1. After starting the product, the battery charge status indication is displayed for 5 seconds.

  • (L1), (L2) and (L3) light 67 – 100 % charged
  • (L1) and (L2) light 34 – 66 % charged
  • (L1) lights 11 – 33 % charged
  • (L1) blinks 0 – 10 % charged

If the LED (L1) blinks, the battery must be charged.

  • If the error LED (Wp) is lighting or blinking, see 4. TROUBLESHOOTING.

To adjust the handle (only for ComfortCut [ Fig. O3 ]:
The handle can be adjusted in 5 steps to suit individual needs.

  1. Push the elbow joint (3) on both sides and adjust the handle (4) to the desired angle.
  2. Let the handle (4) engage at the desired angle. Make sure that the handle is engaged.

To change the blade [ Fig. O4 ]:
Only the GARDENA blade may be used.

  • GARDENA Grass and Boxwood blade Art. 9862
  • GARDENA Shrub blade Art. 9863
  1. Push the lock buttons (5) on both sides at the same time and remove the blade (6).
  2. Put the other blade on until the connection audibly engages. Make sure that the blade is engaged.

To start / to stop the battery shear [ Fig. O5 ]:

DANGER!

  • Risk of injury! Risk of injury if the product does not stop when the start lever is released.
    • Do not bypass the safety devices or switches.
    • For example do not attach the start lever to the handle.

To start the battery shear:
The product is provided with a safety device (start lever and safety interlock) to prevent the product from being turned on by accident.

Without telescopic handle [ Fig. O5 ]:

  1. Remove the protective cover (7) of the blade (6).
  2. Slide the safety interlock (8) forward and pull the start lever (9) towards the handle (4). The battery shear starts and the battery charge status indication (P) is displayed for 5 seconds.
  3. Release the safety interlock (8). Hold the handle ß4h on the telescopic handle, slide the safety interlock ß8h on the telescopic handle forward and pull the start lever ß9h on the telescopic handle. The battery shear starts and the battery charge status indication (P) is displayed for 5 seconds.
  4. Release the safety interlock ß8h .

With telescopic handle [ Fig. O6 ]:
When the telescopic handle is assembled, the safety interlock and the start lever on the battery shear are without function.

  1. Assemble the telescopic handle.
  2. Remove the protective cover (7) of the blade (6).

To stop the battery shear:

  1. Release the start lever ß9h . The battery shear stops.
  2. Wait for the blade to stop
  3. Slide the protective cover (7) over the blade (6).

MAINTENANCE

  • Use gloves.
  • Wait for the blade to stop.
  • Slide the protective cover over the blade.

To clean the battery shear:

DANGER! Risk of injury!
Risk of injury and risk of damage to the product.

  • Do not clean the product with water or with a water jet (in particular high-pressure water jet).
  • Do not clean with chemicals including petrol or solvents.

Some can destroy critical plastic parts.

  1. Push the lock buttons (5) on both sides at the same time and remove the blade (6).
  2. Clean the battery shear with a damp cloth.
  3. Spray the blade with e. g. the GARDENA Cleaning Spray Art. 2366. Thereby avoid contact of the oil with the plastic parts.
  4. Put the blade on until the connection audibly engages. Make sure that the blade is engaged.

STORAGE

To put into storage:
The product must be stored away from children.

  1. Slide the protective cover over the blade.
  2. Charge the battery.
  3. Clean the battery shear (see 2. MAINTENANCE).
  4. Store the battery shear in a dry, enclosed and frost-free place.

TROUBLESHOOTING

DANGER! Cutting injury due to the blade!

DISPOSAL:

  1. Disposal of the battery shear: (according to Directive 2012/19/EU / S.I. 2013 No. 3113)
    The product must not be disposed of to normal household waste. It must be disposed of in line with local environmental regulations.
    IMPORTANT!

  2. Dispose of the product through or via your local recycling collection centre.

  3. Disposal of the battery:
    The battery contains lithium-ion cells that should not be disposed of with normal household waste at the end of its life.

IMPORTANT!
The battery may only be removed by qualified personnel.

  1. If you have any questions regarding the removal of the battery, please contact the GARDENA Service.
  2. Dispose of the lithium-ion cells properly via or through your local recycling collection centre.
