Product Information

The VTech VM321 and VM321-2 are baby monitors designed to help
you monitor your baby remotely. The system consists of a parent unit and a baby unit. The parent unit features a microphone, LCD display, buttons for control, and a speaker. The baby unit includes a temperature sensor and an antenna. The system allows you to monitor your baby’s activities, listen to sounds, and view the baby unit’s video feed.

The parent unit runs on a rechargeable battery or AC power. It is recommended to use both the battery and AC power simultaneously for continuous monitoring. The battery alone provides cordless operation for a limited time.

The baby unit has a light that indicates its power status. It can be powered by the battery or AC power. The parent unit has display icons to show the zoom status, video playback, alert settings, temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius, sound level indicators, speaker volume level, and the currently selected baby unit in single-CAM or multi-CAM mode.

The system offers various features such as language selection (English, French, or Spanish), monitoring mode selection (CAM X, Split CAM, or Patrol Mode), and sensitivity adjustment for the microphone of the baby unit.

The baby unit can be mounted on a wall using the provided wall mount.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Register your product: Go to www.vtechphones.com to register your product for enhanced warranty support and the latest VTech product news.
  2. Install the parent unit battery:
    • Make sure to use both the battery and AC power for continuous monitoring.
    • To replace the battery, gently pull the ribbon and lift up to remove the batteries. Then, follow the steps above to install the new battery.
  3. Install the baby unit battery:
    • To replace the battery, gently pull the ribbon and lift up to remove the batteries. Then, follow the steps above to install the new battery.
  4. Connect the baby monitor:
    • Connect the baby unit to power using either the battery or AC power.
    • Make sure the parent unit is within range of the baby unit for proper signal transmission.
  5. Adjust settings:
    • Use the parent unit’s main menu icons to navigate and adjust settings.
    • Select the desired language (English, French, or Spanish) for all screen displays.
    • Select the monitoring mode (CAM X, Split CAM, or Patrol Mode) if multiple baby units are used.
    • Adjust the sensitivity level of the baby unit’s microphone using the parent unit.
  6. Mount the baby unit (optional):
    • If desired, use the provided wall mount to mount the baby unit on a wall.

Install the battery

Install the baby unit battery You can power up the baby unit by connecting it to AC power or installing four AA alkaline batteries. Even if the baby unit is connected to AC power, we recommend you also install four AA alkaline batteries. This guarantees continual operation in case of a power outage. Install four AA alkaline batteries (not supplied) into the battery compartment, matching the polarity markings (+ and -) inside the battery compartment. Make sure the ribbon attached inside the battery compartment is put under the batteries and the excess ribbon is tucked in properly. Install the battery as shown below.

Install the parent unit battery
The parent unit runs on rechargeable battery or AC power. To continuously monitor your baby, make sure you use both battery and AC power at the same time. With the battery alone, the parent unit can cordlessly run for a short time only.
NOTE
· Use only the battery supplied with this product. Install the battery as shown below.

NOTES
· Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline and standard (carbon- zinc) batteries.
· The operating time for using AA batteries is short, only for a few hours. If you want to monitor your baby for a long time, we recommend you connect your baby unit to AC power.
· If the baby unit will not be used for a long time, disconnect and remove the battery to prevent possible leakage.
· You can use rechargeable AA batteries for the baby unit, but the baby unit cannot charge rechargeable batteries.
Replace the baby unit battery To replace the battery, gently pull the ribbon and lift up to remove the batteries, then follow the step above to install the battery.

Replace the parent unit battery To replace the battery, pull out the battery compartment. Press down on the large tab of the battery and pull it out of the battery compartment, then follow the steps above to install the battery.
NOTES
· The operating time for using the rechargeable battery is short. If you want to monitor your baby for a long time, we recommend you connect the parent unit to AC power.
· If the parent unit will not be used for a long time, disconnect and remove the battery to prevent possible leakage.

Connect the baby monitor
NOTES
· Use only the power adapters supplied with this product.
· Make sure the electrical outlets are not controlled by wall switches.
· The power adapters are intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position. The prongs are not designed to hold the plug in place if they are plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.
· Make sure the parent unit, the baby unit and the power adapter cords are out of reach of children.

Monitoring You can choose to monitor in CAM X, Split CAM or Patrol Mode if there are more than one baby units in your system. The monitoring mode is preset to CAM 1.
Sensitivity With this feature, you can choose to hear sounds from the baby unit all the time, or to hear sounds that exceed a certain level. You can use the parent unit to adjust the microphone sensitivity of your baby unit. The higher the sensitivity level, the more sensitive the baby unit is in detecting sounds for transmitting to the parent unit.

Mount the baby unit
Use the provided wall mount if you want to mount the baby unit on a wall.
NOTE
· Check for reception strength and camera angle before drilling the holes.
1. Place the wall mount bracket on a wall and then use a pencil to mark the top and the bottom holes as shown. Remove the wall mount bracket and drill two holes in the wall (7/32 inch drill bit).

2. If you drill the holes into a stud, go to step 3. -ORIf you drill the holes into an object other than a stud, insert the wall anchors into the holes. Tap gently on the ends with a hammer until the wall anchors are flush with the wall.

3. Align the wall mount bracket and screws with the holes in the wall as shown. Tighten the screw in the middle hole first, so that the wall mount bracket position is fixed. You can tighten the other screw in the top hole. Place the baby unit on the wall mount bracket. Tighten the screw into the threaded socket at the bottom to secure the baby unit.

Temperature You can turn on the temperature alert feature so that the parent unit beeps whenever the room temperature detected by the baby unit falls outside of the desired temperature range.
Vibration You can turn on the vibration alert so that the parent unit vibrates when it receives Low battery tone, No link alert, Sound alert in splitview or Temperature alert after turning on the respective alert tones.
Sound-activated Screen Automatically turns on the parent unit screen when a baby unit detects a sound after the screen is turned off. When no sound is detected, the screen is automatically turned off to save power.
LCD You can change the brightness of the parent unit screen.
Pair/Unpair The baby unit and parent unit provided are already paired. You can add or replace baby units (VM301, purchased separately) to your baby monitor system.

Parent unit display messages

Battery low at CAM #
Battery low at Parent Unit Battery empty at Parent Unit

When the baby unit is powered by batteries, the stated baby unit batteries need to be changed. It will be powered off after 30 seconds automatically. The battery level of the parent unit is very low and needs to be recharged. When the battery level of the parent unit is almost depleted, it needs to be recharged. The parent unit will be powered off after 10 seconds.

-ORInsert the screws into the holes and tighten the screws until only 1/4 inch of the screws are exposed. Place the baby unit on the wall mount bracket. Tighten the screw into the threaded socket at the bottom to secure the baby unit. Align the holes on the wall mount bracket with the screws on the wall, and slide the wall mount bracket down until it locks into place.
2 5. The default angle of the wall mount bracket
is 90 degrees. You can maximize your baby unit’s viewing angles by tilting the wall mount bracket. Hold the baby unit, and then rotate the knob in anticlockwise direction. This will loosen the joint of the wall mount bracket. Tilt your baby unit up or down to adjust to your preferred angle. Then, rotate the knob in clockwise direction to tighten the joint and secure the angle.
6. You can also maximize your baby unit’s viewing angles by tilting the lens. Hold the top of the lid, and then tilt it up or down to adjust to your preferred angle.

Connect the parent unit and charge its battery

When you have connected the parent unit and installed its battery for the first time, press for 2 seconds to turn it on. The battery icon indicates the battery status (see the following table).
NOTES
· The parent unit battery is fully charged after 12 hours of continuous charging.
· It takes longer to charge the battery when the parent unit is turned on. To shorten the charging time, turn the parent unit off while charging.
· The standby time varies depending on the sensitivity level you set, your actual use and the age of the battery.

You can turn on or off the parent unit screen without powering off the parent unit. You can still hear sound from the baby unit.

Adjust speaker volume
For parent unit: You can change the speaker volume from Volume 1 to Volume 7, or turn it off. The speaker volume is preset to Volume 4. When the speaker volume is set to off, appears briefly and the light turns on.

NOTE
· In Split CAM mode, you cannot adjust the speaker volume.
For baby unit: You can change the speaker volume from Level 1 to Level 5. The preset volume is Level 3. Changing the speaker volume also changes the lullaby playback volume. · Press + or – on the baby unit to adjust the
speaker volume.

NOTE
· This baby monitor is intended as an aid. It is not a substitute for proper adult supervision, and should not be used as such.
Test your baby monitor
You may test the baby monitor before initial use, and at regular times thereafter.
CAUTION · For hearing protection, make sure the parent unit is
more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from both baby units. If you hear any high- pitched noise, move the parent unit further until the noise stops. You can also press /VOL- on the parent unit to lower or mute the noise.

Positioning the baby monitor
CAUTION
· Keep the baby unit out of the reach of your baby. Never place or mount the baby unit inside the baby’s crib or playpen.
NOTE
· To avoid interference from other electronic devices, place your baby monitor far away from devices such as wireless routers, microwaves, cell phones and computers.

NOTE
· When the parent unit displays No link to CAM # (# represents the selected baby unit number), then Waiting for linking … and , move the parent unit closer to the baby unit (observe the minimum distance of 1 meter/ 3 feet). You can also check if the baby monitor is connected to a live power socket and switched on. TIP
· Increase the speaker volume of the parent unit if you cannot hear the sounds transmitted from the baby units.
Set the language
You can select a language (English, French or Spanish) to be used in all screen displays. The screen display language is preset to English. 1. Press MENU when the parent unit is idle. 2. Press or to choose Language
(LANGUE if French is set, or IDIOMA if Spanish is set), then press SELECT or . 3. Press or to choose English, Français or Español, then press SELECT to confirm your selection. You hear a confirmation tone.
Adjust LCD brightness
You can change the brightness of the parent unit screen from Level 1 to Level 5. The LCD brightness is preset to Level 3.

brightness, then press SELECT to confirm your selection.
Adjust the sound sensitivity of the baby unit
You can choose to hear sounds from the baby unit all the time, or to hear sounds that exceed a certain level. You can use the parent unit to adjust the microphone sensitivity of your baby unit from Level 1 to Level 5. The higher the sensitivity level, the more sensitive the baby unit is in detecting sounds for transmitting to the parent unit. The sound sensitivity level is preset to Level 3.

If you experience high-pitched screeching noise from your baby monitor while positioning: – Make sure your baby units and parent unit are
more than 1 meter (3 feet) apart, OR – Turn down the volume of your parent unit.
Operating range
The operating range of the baby monitor is up to 300 meters (1,000 feet) outdoors or 50 meters (160 feet) indoors. The actual operating range may vary depending on the environmental conditions and other interferences such as walls, doors and other obstructions.

Turn on or off the sound activation
If the parent unit screen is turned off manually, sound activation triggers the parent unit screen to turn on automatically whenever your baby unit detects a sound. When no sound is detected within 50 seconds, the screen will be off automatically to save power. 1. Press MENU when the parent unit is idle. 2. Press or to choose SOUND-
ACTIVATED SCREEN, then press SELECT or . 3. Press or to choose On or Off, then press SELECT to confirm your selection. You hear a confirmation tone.
NOTES
· The parent unit will turn on only if the sounds detected are from the last viewed camera.
· If the sound sensitivity is set to Level 5, the baby unit will be very sensitive and detect any sounds including background noises. These background noises may disrupt the silence and prevent the sound-activated screen feature to work properly.

Monitoring mode

You can choose to monitor in CAM X, Split CAM or Patrol Mode if there are more than one baby units in your system. The monitoring mode is preset to CAM 1.

1. Press MENU when the parent unit is idle.

2. Press or to choose MONITORING MODE, then press SELECT or .

3. Press or to choose CAM X, Split CAM or Patrol Mode.

· CAM X – The parent unit only displays

image of the corresponding baby unit.

You may change to view images from

different baby units by pressing

in

this mode.

· Split CAM – The parent unit displays multiple baby unit images in a maximum of four in one screen.

· Patrol Mode – The parent unit patrols to

display images from different baby units

in every 7 seconds. You may change to

view images from different baby units

even though the scanning period is not

expired by pressing

in this mode.

4. Press SELECT to confirm your selection.

NOTE
· Monitoring mode is not applicable when there is only one baby unit.

Zoom
You can zoom in or out while viewing image from baby unit in CAM X or Patrol mode.
· Press to zoom in. · Press , , or to move the zoomed
image upward, downward, leftward or rightward correspondingly. · Press again to zoom out.
NOTE
· This zoom feature is not applicable in Split CAM mode.

View
You can change the screen to view images from different baby units, or you can turn off the screen.
To view different baby units while in CAM X: Press repeatedly to switch to the desired baby units. The switching is in chronological order: CAM 1 to CAM 4.
To view different baby units while in Split CAM: Press to enlarge the desired baby units. The Split CAM mode resumes after a while.
To view different baby units while in Patrol mode: Press repeatedly to switch to the desired baby units even if the scanning period on a particular baby unit is not expired. The switching is in chronological order: CAM 1 to CAM 4.
NOTE
· If the switching fails, the screen displays Waiting for linking…. Make sure the baby unit turns on. Try the switching again.

Talk
You can broadcast messages from the parent unit to any one of the baby units..

1. Press

to choose a desired baby unit.

2. Press and hold TALK when the parent unit is viewing particular baby unit. Speak towards the Microphone on the parent unit. The TALK light is on when the voice connection to the baby unit is made. Your voice is broadcast to the baby unit.

3. Release the TALK key to stop the broadcast. The TALK light goes off.

NOTES
· If the speaker volume of the parent unit is set to OFF, it will be reset to the default volume after you press and hold TALK.
· Lullaby playback is paused when the parent unit is talking the baby unit. Lullaby playback resumes when the parent unit finishes using the TALK feature.
Set alert tone
Low battery tone You can set the parent unit to beep when the parent unit operates in low battery condition. The low battery tone alert is preset to On.

  1. Press MENU when the parent unit is idle. 2. Press or to choose ALERT TONE,
    then press SELECT or . 3. Press SELECT or again to choose
    Low Battery Tone. 4. Press or to choose On or Off, then
    press SELECT to confirm your selection.
    NOTE
    · The low battery tone alert only works while viewing that particular baby unit in single-CAM mode or in multi-CAM mode.
    No link alert You can set the parent unit to beep when the link between the parent unit and the baby unit is lost. The no link tone alert is preset to On.
  2. Press MENU when the parent unit is idle. 2. Press or to choose ALERT TONE,
    then press SELECT or . 3. Press or to choose No Link Alert, then
    press SELECT or . 4. Press or to choose On or Off, then
    press SELECT to confirm your selection.
    NOTE
    · The no link alert only works while viewing that particular baby unit in single-CAM mode or in multi-CAM mode.
    Monitor the temperature
    Your baby unit monitors the temperature of your baby’s room with its built-in temperature sensor. If the detected temperature is out of the preset temperature range, the parent unit will display an alert message.

Set temperature range You can set the desired room temperature alert range. The minimum temperature can be set between 52 oF (11 oC) and 69 oF (20 oC). The minimum temperature is preset to 57 oF (14 oC). The maximum temperature can be set between 70 oF (21 oC) and 86 oF (30 oC). The maximum temperature is preset to 85 oF (30 oC).

NOTES
· If you set the sensitivity level to Level 5 (Maximum), the baby unit will be very sensitive and detect any sounds including background noises. These background noises may disrupt the silence and prevent the vibration feature to work properly.
· If you set the vibration setting to On if speaker off or Always on, the parent unit will vibrate once when you turn the speaker off.

Play lullabies
There are 5 lullabies to choose from, and the chosen lullaby plays repeatedly. The total duration of lullaby playback is about 20 minutes and it starts from where you stopped last time. To play lullabies: · Press on the baby unit. To skip to the next lullaby: · Press to skip to the next lullaby. To stop playing lullabies: · Press on the baby unit to stop.
NOTE
· Lullaby playback is paused when the parent unit is talking to the baby unit. Lullaby playback resumes when the parent unit finishes using the TALK feature.
Night vision
The baby unit has infrared LEDs that allow you to see your baby clearly at night or in a dark room. When the baby unit being viewed detects low light levels, the infrared LEDs are switched on automatically. The images from this baby unit is in black and white.
NOTES
· It is normal if you see a short white glare on your parent unit screen as the baby unit is adapting to the dark environment.
· When the infrared LEDs are on, the image is in black and white. This is normal due to external light sources.
TIP · Depending on the surroundings and other
interfering factors, like lightings, objects, colors and backgrounds, the display resolution may vary. Adjust the baby unit’s angle or place the baby unit at a higher level to prevent glare and blurry display.
Add new baby unit (VM301)
The baby units and parent unit provided are already paired. You can add or replace any baby units (VM301 purchased separately) to your video and audio monitor system. You can pair a maximum of four baby units to your parent unit. For more details, refer to the user’s manual that comes with your VM301 new baby unit.

General product care
To keep this product working well and looking good, follow these guidelines: · Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices

Make sure the adapter cords are plugged firmly into the baby units and parent unit.

Make sure the baby units and the parent unit are turned on.

The parent unit may be too far away from the baby units. Move the parent unit closer to the baby units (but not less than 3 feet). Unplug the electrical power to the baby units and parent unit. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Turn on the baby units and the parent unit. Allow up to one minute for the baby units and the parent unit to synchronize. Install the correct type of batteries in the baby units and follow the proper polarity orientation between the battery and metallic contacts inside the battery compartment.

Charge the battery in the parent unit for up to 12 hours.

If the parent unit battery is completely depleted, it may take up to 30 minutes to charge the parent unit before it can be used for a short time.

Remove the battery and then install it again. If that still does not work, it may be necessary to purchase new batteries.

Large obstructions may impact the reception. Try to relocate the baby units, away from large obstructions such as walls and doors.

My video and audio monitor does not work at all.

Other electronic products may cause interference with your video and audio monitor. Try installing your video and audio monitor as far away from these electronic devices as possible: wireless routers, radios, cellular telephones, intercoms, room monitors, televisions, personal computers, kitchen appliances and cordless telephones.

The video and audio monitor produces high-pitched noise.

The parent unit may be too close to the baby units. Make sure the parent unit and the baby units are at least 3 feet away from one another. You may be too close to the baby unit when you press and hold TALK. Make sure the parent unit and the baby units are at least 3 feet away from one another.

You may have set the sensitivity level too high. You may need to adjust the sensitivity level to a lower level to avoid audio feedback.

The parent unit plays any sounds from the baby unit and I think it is too noisy.

During the limited warranty period, VTech’s authorized service representative will repair or replace at VTech’s option, without charge, a Materially Defective Product. NOTE: Before calling for service, please review the user’s manual – a check of the Product’s controls and features may save you a service call. Except as provided by applicable law, you assume the risk of loss or damage during transit and transportation and are responsible for delivery or handling charges incurred in the transport of the Product(s) to the service location. VTech will return repaired or replaced Product under this limited warranty. Transportation, delivery or handling charges are prepaid. VTech assumes no risk for damage or loss of the Product in transit. If the Product failure is not covered by this limited warranty, or proof of purchase does not meet the terms of this limited warranty, VTech will notify you and will request that you authorize the cost of repair prior to any further repair activity. You must pay for the cost of repair and return shipping costs for the repair of Products that are not covered by this limited warranty.
What must you return with the Product to get warranty service? 1. Return the entire original package and contents
including the Product to the VTech service location along with a description of the malfunction or difficulty; and

2. Include a “valid proof of purchase” (sales receipt) identifying the Product purchased (Product model) and the date of purchase or receipt; and
3. Provide your name, complete and correct mailing address, and telephone number.
Other limitations This warranty is the complete and exclusive agreement between you and VTech. It supersedes all other written or oral communications related to this Product. VTech provides no other warranties for this Product. The warranty exclusively describes all of VTech’s responsibilities regarding the Product. There are no other express warranties. No one is authorized to make modifications to this limited warranty and you should not rely on any such modification. State/Provincial Law Rights: This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state or province to province. Limitations: Implied warranties, including those of fitness for a particular purpose and merchantability (an unwritten warranty that the Product is fit for ordinary use) are limited to one year from the date of purchase. The link between the baby unit and the parent unit is lost every now and then, and I’m experiencing sound interruptions. The parent unit displays Waiting for linking…. Common cure for electronic equipment.

Move the parent unit closer to the baby unit (but not less than 3 feet). The baby units may be out of range.
Reset the parent unit and the baby unit by turning them off and unplugging the electrical power to the parent unit and the baby unit. Wait for 15 seconds and plug them back in again. Turn on the baby unit and the parent unit. Allow up to one minute for the parent unit and the baby unit to synchronize.
Other electronic products may cause interference with your video and audio monitor. Try installing your video and audio monitor as far away from these electronic devices as possible: wireless routers, radios, cellular telephones, intercoms, room monitors, televisions, personal computers, kitchen appliances and cordless telephones.

5. Wait for the parent unit to synchronize with the baby units. Allow up to one minute for this to take place.

Important safety instructions

When using your equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury, including the following:

The power adapters are intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 10. Unplug the power cords before replacing batteries. 11.
