Thank you for purchasing the VTech® KidiMagic StarLight!

KidiMagic StarLight is a wonderful alarm clock with an atmospheric soft glowing mood light that changes colour! Tune into your favourite radio station with the FM radio or plug in a battery powered external music player (not included) to listen to your own music. There are also relaxing melodies with soft lighting, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Change the colour of the light and control the games by moving your palm above the magic sensor! The magic fortune games can read your mind and predict your fortune. It’s magic!

Buttons Description

Clock
Press this button to enter Clock mode or to go to sleep mode.
When the clock is not in use, sleep mode will activate to save power.

Music
Press this button to enter Music mode. Here you can listen to relaxing music and tune FM radio. If a battery powered external music player (not included) is connected, you can listen to your own music.

Note: For best performance, only connect to battery powered external music players.

Game
Press this button to enter Game mode.

Magic Fortune
Press this button to choose a magic fortune game.

Alarm
Press this button to set an alarm.

Press this button for the below settings or to exit to Clock mode.

Light Button

Press this button to confirm your selection.
If in Clock mode, press the OK button to tell the current time.

Audio-in Jack
Plug in a battery powered external music player (not included) using the supplied audio cable to listen to music.

Note: For best performance, only connect to battery powered external music players.

AC/DC Jack
Plug in a VTech® 6V AC power adaptor (sold separately) here.

Projector Focus Lens
Turn this to adjust the focus of the time projection.

Note:
We recommend using the time projection in a dimly lit room to get the best results.

Projection Angle Adjuster
Adjust the projection angle by switching the adjuster.

Magic Sensor Ring
Wave your palm above the magic sensors to see magic effects. Works only when the magic sensor icon is shown on the screen.

WARNING

• Please keep your KidiMagic StarLight away from strong light or direct sunlight, it will interfere with the magic sensor.
• To avoid poor operation, please ensure there are no obstacles such as a shelf close to the top of the unit.
• If the sensor detects an obstacle that impedes the performance of the unit, you will see a warning icon on the screen.

SPECIAL WARNING ICON

| Low Battery| This icon will appear when the battery power is low. Please replace the batteries.

| Bad Signal| The animation will appear when an object is within the sensor range for an extended period of time and reduces the performance.

INSTRUCTIONS

BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

KidiMagic StarLight uses 4 AA batteries or a VTech® 6V adaptor (sold separately).

1. Make sure the unit is turned OFF.
2. Locate the battery cover on the back of the unit. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw and then open the battery cover.
3. If used batteries are present, remove these batteries from the unit by pulling up on one end of each battery.
4. Install 4 new AA (AM-3/LR6) batteries following the diagram inside the battery box. (For best performance, alkaline batteries or fully charged Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are recommended).
5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure.
   

WARNING:

• Adult assembly required for battery installation.
• Keep batteries out of reach of children.

IMPORTANT: BATTERY INFORMATION

• Insert batteries with the correct polarity (+ and -).
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable batteries.
• Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
• Do not short-circuit the supply terminals.
• Remove batteries during long periods of non-use.
• Remove exhausted batteries from the toy.
• Dispose of batteries safely. Do not dispose of batteries in fire.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES:

• Remove rechargeable batteries from the toy before charging.
• Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision.
• Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.

Disposal of batteries and product

The crossed-out wheelie bin symbols on products and batteries, or on their respective packaging, indicates they must not be disposed of in domestic waste as they contain substances that can be damaging to the environment and human health.

The chemical symbols Hg, Cd or Pb, where marked, indicate that the battery contains more than the specified value of mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd) or lead (Pb) set out in the Batteries and Accumulators Regulation.

The solid bar indicates that the product was placed on the market after 13th August, 2005.

Help protect the environment by disposing of your product or batteries responsibly.

CONNECTING THE ADAPTOR

• Make sure the unit is OFF and ensure no batteries remain inside the unit.
• Locate the 3.5mm DC Jack on the side of the unit.
• Connect a power adaptor (not included) into the unit’s DC Jack.
• Insert the other end of the power adaptor into a plug socket.
• Turn the unit ON.

TRANSFORMER SAFETY NOTICE

• VTech recommend a power supply (AC/DC adaptor) of the below specification:
  Power rating: 6V/800mA DC output with 3.5mm/1.3mm plug (positive centre).

• This toy shall only be used with a power supply for toys.

• The power supply is not a toy.

• This toy is not intended for use by children under 3 years old.

• Do not connect the toy to more than the recommended number of power supplies.

• Never clean a plugged in toy with liquid.

• Please examine the power supply periodically for conditions that may result in the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons (such as damage to the supply cord, output cord, plug, blades, housing, or other parts) and that, in the event of such conditions, the power supply should be scrapped.

• Power supplies for toys are not intended to be used as toys, and the use of these products by children shall be under the full supervision of parents.

TO BEGIN USING KIDIMAGIC STARLIGHT

INITIAL SETUP
Press any button to turn the unit on. When the unit is first turned on, you will be asked to set the time and date.

TIME SETUP
Here you can set the time format.

• Press the OK button to highlight the next item:
  Hour, Minute, am / pm (only in 12 hour mode), / , 12 / 24 hr.

• Press the ****buttons to adjust the value.

• To save the current settings, press the OK button when highlighting the tick icon . Or, you can press the ****buttons to choose the reset icon to reset the time.

DATE SETUP

Here you can set the date format.

• Press the OK button to highlight the next item:
  Day, Month, Year, / , Date Format (DD/ MM/YY or MM/DD/YY).

• Press the ****buttons to adjust the value.

• To save the current settings, press the OK button when highlighting the tick icon . Or, you can press the ****buttons to choose the reset icon to reset the date.

STANDBY MODE

To preserve battery life, KidiMagic StarLight will automatically enter standby mode if there is no operation for a period of time. You can also press the Clock button to go to standby mode if you are already in clock mode. The current time will be displayed even when in standby mode. Press any button to wake up the unit.

MAGIC SENSOR CONTROL

The magic sensors detect palm movement above them. Wave your palm left and right to activate the sensors. You will be able to select different light effects and play games using it.

The magic sensor is available only if the magic sensor icon is shown at the top of the screen.

LIGHT CONTROL
Press the light button to switch between star and screen display lights on, star light off and both lights off.

PROJECTION CONTROL

A projector is located on the top of KidiMagic StarLight. It allows the
current time to be projected onto the ceiling.
Press the projection button to turn the time display projection on or off.

When the time projection is turned on, the projection icon will be shown at the top of the screen.

Rotate the projector focus lens clockwise and anticlockwise to adjust the focus of projection display.

Switch the projection angle adjuster to adjust the projection angle.

VOLUME CONTROL

Press the volume button to adjust the volume. Use the left or the right **** buttons to decrease or increase the volume.
Press the volume button again or any function button to save the current settings.

LONG-TIME LIGHT ON FEATURE

There is a long-time light on feature for KidiMagic.
You can set the light to stay on for a long time in some modes when an adaptor is being used.
We recommend the use of an adaptor whenever possible. If you are using batteries, the long-time light on feature will not be available.

To set long-time light on, you can refer to the Auto-Off Timer section in Settings for details.

ACTIVITIES

Clock

Press the clock button to go to the clock mode, it displays the current time on screen. The light will turn on for a short time with it.

• Wave your palm left and right above KidiMagic StarLight to change the light effect.
• Press the ****buttons to change the style for time display.
• Press the OK button to listen to the time spoken aloud.

Alarm

There are 2 alarms that can be set, alarm 1  and alarm 2

To set the alarm

• Choose the desired alarm by pressing the ****buttons and then the OK button.

• When in the alarm time setting screen, press the ****buttons to change the value and to set the alarm on/off.

• Press the OK button to go to the next item: Hour, Minute, am / pm (Available only in 12 hour mode), alarm on one time / alarm on everyday / alarm off, ring tone / .

• Once you have selected an alarm tone, press the OK button to go to the tick icon. You can choose a different alarm tone and adjust the alarm volume by pressing the ****buttons.

• To save the current settings, press the OK button when highlighting the tick icon . Or, you can press the ****buttons to choose the reset icon to reset the alarm.

Stop the Alarm Ringing

• To turn the alarm off, choose the icon and press the OK button or press the Alarm button. If the alarm is set to be on everyday, the alarm will ring the next day.
• When the alarm is ringing, press any activity button or wave your palm above the unit to go to snooze mode. The alarm will ring again after 5 minutes for a maximum of 3 times.

Music

In this mode, you can listen to relaxing music and your favourite FM Radio stations. You can even listen to your own music by plugging in your own battery powered external music player (not included) to KidiMagic StarLight.

Note: For best performance, only connect to battery powered external music players.

Relaxing Music

There are 6 relaxing melodies with soft mood lighting that create a peaceful atmosphere for you to relax or go to sleep to.

• Wave your palm left and right above KidiMagic StarLight to change the light effect.
• Press the ****buttons to cycle through and select the melodies.
• Press the OK button to open up a selection menu where you can turn on or off nature sounds mixed into the music. Make your selection by presssing the ****buttons.

FM Radio

Here you can listen to your favourite FM Radio stations. The frequency range is 87.5 – 108 MHz.

• Press the ****buttons to manually search through the frequency range.
• Hold the ****buttons to auto search a channel.
• Press the OK button to select different radio stations.

Note:

• To get good radio reception, adjust the position of the antenna situated on the back of the unit.

• In FM Radio mode, only the screen will light up, not the main light.
  After a short while, the screen display will dim. To make it brighter, press any button.

• The light effect cannot be changed in FM Radio mode to help increase the reception.

External Music Connection

Plug in a battery powered external music player (not included) to KidiMagic StarLight and listen to your own music!

Note: Please disconnect your external music player (not included) and the audio cable from KidiMagic StarLight if you do not want to listen to music.

Note: For best performance, only connect to battery powered external music players.

Note:
The Volume Control on the KidiMagic StarLight cannot control the volume of an external music player.

There are more light effects to accompany the external music mode to choose from, wave your palm above KidiMagic StarLight to choose.

The Auto-off timer that can be adjusted in the Settings menu only works to bring the KidiMagic StarLight into standby mode and does not control or turn off any external devices.

Magic Fortune Games

There are 5 magic fortune games for you to play in KidiMagic StarLight. Use the ****buttons to choose a game, and press the OK button to start playing.

Fortune Teller

Let KidiMagic StarLight tell your fortune by asking it a yes or no question.

Place your palm above KidiMagic StarLight or hold the OK button to ask a yes or no question. Your question will be answered when you move your palm away or release the OK button.

Magic Card Reader

Here it can reveal your personality!

All you have to do is choose a deck of cards by presssing the buttons or by waving your palm, and then choose a card from a selected deck of cards by pressing the buttons or by waving your palm. KidiMagic StarLight will analyse the selected card, and then tell your personality

Lucky Index

Here you can find how lucky you will be today.
Choose your favourite pictures or objects by pressing the ****buttons and OK button or wave your palm to choose. Then, put your palm above KidiMagic StarLight, let it sense your palm.

Sweet Thought

Here it can guess your favourite sweet. At the beginning, it will show some different shaped sweets to you, choose a sweet to remember in your mind and press the OK button to start playing. You need to go through a series of sweets and confirm if your favourite sweet is in them one by one. At the end, we can guess what your favourite sweet is.

Mystical Mind Reading

There are 9 cards with different symbols. Think of any symbol from the 9 cards and press the OK button to start playing. You need to make some
selections by following the instructions. Then, you will be asked to pick up a card from 9 cards, and you will find the selected card will be the card in your mind.

Games

Magic Hat

The magician will use their magic wand to perform spells on a specific hat. And the hats will swap around each other. When they stop, can you find which hat is the magic one? Use the ****buttons or wave your palm to choose the hat, press the OK button to confirm your selection.

Fruit Slice

Remember the fruit shown at the beginning, then slice it each time it appears on the screen to make a fruit salad or a fruit juice.

Press the OK button or wave your palm above KidiMagic StarLight to cut the fruit.

The game will speed up the more you play, so try your best to cut the correct fruit and make a delicious salad or fruit juice!

Magic Potion

Collect different components to make a magic potion! One type of bottle with a specific component will be briefly displayed, then lots of different bottles will appear. Select the bottle shown at the beginning of the game to finish the potion.

Press the OK button or wave your palm above KidiMagic StarLight to collect the components.

Settings

In this mode, you can alter the below settings:

• Brightness Setting
• Projection Theme Setting
• Projection Orientation Setting

• Auto-off Timer Setting
• Time Setting
• Date Setting

Brightness

Press the ****buttons to control the brightness and then press the OK button to save the setting.

Projection Theme

Press the ****buttons to choose a different projection theme and then press OK to save the setting.

The default setting is time display with star theme.

Note: In FM Radio mode, there will be no animation and only a still picture to keep good reception.

Projection Orientation

The time projection can be reversed for easy viewing.

Press the ****buttons to choose a different time display orientation.

This default orientation is used for desk side viewing.
When you are playing games or listening to the radio or music, the time will be shown on the ceiling if you look up.

Another orientation is used for bedtime viewing. When you are lying in bed, the time will be shown on the ceiling.

Light Effect

Use the ****buttons or wave your palm above KidiMagic StarLight to change the light effect.

Auto-off Timer

You can set the amount of time the light is on in Clock mode, and the auto-off timer for Projection, FM Radio and External Music Connection.

Projection

Press the ****buttons to select the desired length of time: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes or disable auto-off. The disable auto-off option is only available when an adaptor is in use.

Clock Light

Press the ****buttons to select the desired length of time: 1 minute, 30 minutes, 60 minutes or disable auto-off. The disable autooff option is only available  when an adaptor is in use.

External Music Connection

Press the ****buttons to select the desired length of time: 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 120 minutes or disable auto-off. The disable autooff option is only available when an adaptor is in use.

Time Setup

The default time is 8:00 in 24 hour mode.

• Press the OK button to highlight the next item:
• Hour, Minute, am / pm (only in 12 hour mode), / , 12 / 24 hr.
• Press the ****buttons to adjust the value.
• To save the current settings, press the OK button when highlighting the tick icon  . Or, you can press the ****buttons to choose the reset icon to reset the time.

Date Setup

The default date is 31/1/2022 in DD/MM/YY format.

• Press the OK button to highlight the next item:
• Day, Month, Year, / , Date Format (DD/ MM/YY or MM/DD/YY).
• Press the ****buttons to adjust the value.
• To save the current settings, press the OK button when highlighting the tick icon . Or, you can press the ****buttons to choose the reset icon to reset the date.

Note: Time and date will be reset if there is no power supply to the unit, you need to reset the time and date after installing new batteries or when plugging into a power supply.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

1. Handle the device carefully.
2. Keep the device out of dusty or dirty areas.
3. Keep the device away from moisture or extreme temperature.
4. Do not disassemble the device. If a problem occurs, remove and replace the batteries to reset the device, or try new batteries.
5. Do not drop the device on a hard surface and do not expose it to or immerse it in water.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Check this section if you experience difficulty with operating KidiMagic StarLight.

Weak radio reception| Place the unit nearer to a window that has an open and unobstructed view. Adjust the position of the antenna on the back of the unit.
Magic sensor not functioning properly| Weak batteries| Replace with new batteries.
Strong light disturbance| Keep unit away from strong light.
Interference by other objects, e.g. wall, ceiling, book shelf, cabinet, etc.| Keep unit away from anything blocking the sensor located above or close to KidiMagic StarLight.
Out of detection range of magic sensor| Make sure your palm is placed right above the magic sensor.
Time Projection not clear| Out of focus| Rotate the projector focus lens clockwise and anticlockwise to adjust the focus of projection display.
Dirty projection lens| Wipe the lens with a clean, dry cloth.
Noise can be heard when playing external music.| Vibration sound from speaker brought by high volume music| Adjust the volume of the battery powered external music player and decrease the volume of the external music. Note: For best performance, only connect to battery powered external music players.
