- Once the liner installation has been verified with the minimum/maximum vent run table, the existing appliance can be removed.
Installation
Notice: Rear venting is not permitted with the use of this kit. It is
only compatible with top vented applications.
Parts included: The BVK35 Kit includes the necessary components for vent
run requirements. These requirements replace the ones referenced in the

then existing B-Vent must be properly strapped to support its weight.
INSTALLERS RESPONSIBILITIES BEFORE AND AFTER CONVERSION
TO DIRECT VENT COMPLETED:
- Inspect existing B-Vent configuration allows installation of 3″ flex liner without damage to the existing vent system.
- Inspect existing B-Vent is damage free and adequately supported.
- Confirm existing B-Vent has minimum l” clearance to combustible materials through all vent length.

other aspect of appliance installation.
The listed direct vent models may only be installed onto B-vent systems using
approved adapters packaged with this kit and following these instructions.
Completely enclose the 3-inch aluminum flex liners within the existing B-vent.
DO NOT USE SINGLE WALL B VENT.
Preparation
- Ensure the existing vent is well supported and no screws will penetrate the aluminum liner.
- The existing B-vent cap should be removed and discarded, using a weighted line, determine the total length of the vent and whether there are offsets. It is important to do this before starting any destructive work. In order to ensure that installation is feasible, it may be preferable to do this before removing the existing appliance. Once the liner installation has been verified with the minimum/maximum vent run table, the existing appliance can be removed.
- Ensure that the lower portion of the existing B-vent is not damaged as you remove the existing appliance.
- Go to the roof and slide continuous 3” 2 ply certified flex pipe down the center of certified B-Vent pipe. Note: no 3” flex liner joints are allowed except where its secured to lower and upper BVA35 adapters.
- Go back down to the fireplace and make sure flex liner is protruding from the bottom of B-Vent pipe. Apply thin continuous bead of Mill-Pack sealant on lower adapter flue collar and fasten the 3” aluminum liner to the flue collar using sheet metal screws, make sure the screws punctured the adapters flue collar and tightened flex liner to it. Mount Montigo to Duravent adapter 46DVA-AD-M1 to lower B-Vent adapter, twist to lock. Mount 46DVA-AD-M1 adapter over fireplace collar or rigid pipe extension, seal inner joints with Mill-Pack and outer joints with aluminum foil tape. If flex coaxial pipes are used as an extension, use MVA male adapter (provided with the kit) to connect flex pipe to 46DVA-AD-M1 adapter. Use sheet metal screws to secure MVA to flex pipe, seal inner joints with Mill- Pack and outer joints with aluminum foil tape.
- Continue with the installation of the fireplace, following instructions packaged with the fireplace. Make sure all clearances to combustible materials are met per the fireplace installation manual.
- Go back to the roof and install the upper adapter. Gently pull the 3” aluminum liner and cut off any excess. Apply thin continuous bead of Mill-Pack sealant on upper adapter flue collar and fasten the 3” aluminum liner to the flue collar using sheet metal screws, make sure screws punctured the adapters flue collar and tightened flex liner to it.
- Slide upper adapter over B-Vent, seal the outer seams with high-temperature silicone. Push Duravent 46DVA-VCH (or equivalent direct vent vertical termination cap) termination cap over upper B-Vent adapter and twist to lock, seal outer joint with high-temperature silicone. Apply the conversion label (supplied with kit) to the other side of the fireplace rating plate plaque over the existing NG/LP conversion label
TERMINATION
BASIC CONNECTION
- Fireplace flue aligns with existing B-Vent and there is enough existing B-Vent length to slide over fireplace.
- Mostly short, vertical (no offsets) B-Vent runs where existing B-Vent has some slack to slightly lift it and slide fireplace under it.
EXTENDED CONNECTION
Similar to scenario connection A but existing B-vent needs to be extended to reach new fireplace. Montigo MEXT (EXT18 can be used for short extensions) shall be used to extend to B-Vent
EXTENDED FLEX CONNECTION
Fireplace flue does not align with existing B-Vent and/or existing B-Vent does
not have slack to lift it and slide fireplace under it. Mostly long B-Vent
runs with 45° offsets. Recommended flex: Montigo MFL, Duravent 46DVA-FO
(collarless), Flexmaster 4DVKIT47 or equivalent certified true size 4/7 dual
ply.
Flue restrictors
Flue restrictors (if equipped) are to be adjusted in field depending on flame quality and vent length. Units that do not come standard with a restrictor can use the optional FRK3 restrictor kit.
FRK3 restrictor use in DRL units:
- Grab desired width restrictor plate
- Bend restrictor plate as shown
- Slide over fireplace flue opening and secure with self taping screws
Finishing
Do not close in and finish chase before the correct flame pattern and
combustion has been established. All other finishing instructions can be found
in the manual for the fireplace.
