INSTALLATION

The Road Thunder Sound Bar Plus can be used with any 12-volt battery and can be mounted to a variety of bars using the included hardware. The unit has four wires in its wiring pigtail. The red wire, hot, should be directly connected to the vehicles positive battery terminal. The black wire, ground, should be connected directly to the vehicle’s chassis where paint has been removed or the negative terminal on the battery. Use the included T-Tap Quick Connect Female connector and install directly onto the ACC/Key ignition wire on the motorcycle using a pair of pliers. Connect the Quick Connect Male connector, located on the orange wire, and the T-Tap Quick Connect Female together. The blue wire, optional output, can be used to turn on additional amplifiers.

The unit features fully adjustable clamps for mounting to bars between 7⁄8” and 1-1⁄4”. The clamps can be used to mount to many styles of handlebar and roll bar systems. The included brackets are versatile, so mounting to angled bars is possible.

SCENARIO 1 – MOUNT CLAMPS TO HANDLEBAR FIRST, THEN INSTALL SOUND BAR.

  • Choose the correct size strap clamp for the handlebars

Note
Placing the transparent film between the strap clamp and handlebar will reduce the possibility of scratching the handlebars during installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it wire into the bike?

There is a power and ground wire that are attached to the bikes battery and a orange that is tapped in to a keyed power source.

Can you run extra speakers off of it?

LMFAO yes their math is ok crack 300 watt peak yet max is 4X23 yeah not even 100.

Can you hook up a sub woofer with this sound bar?

Yes

Can i charge it with the usb port on my bike without running the cables to the battery?

That’s a negative there Ghost writer, the speaker is loud and doesn’t have a built in battery. It’s easy to wire it up. I have it installed on my 2007 Harley Fatboy and it took me only about 30 minutes and the wires are hidden under the fuel tank.

Anybody try hooking this up to a quad, specifically a 2016 Yamaha Raptor?

I have not received any feedback on the Soundbar being attached to a quad. It is a universal type mount and should work. My battery has a female wire connects to the power output socket from the battery.

What should b z type of the end of z wire connects to the speaker?

Not sure, about that but if you have a standard phone charging cord you can plug your phone in to the speakers and it will charge it. As far as the unit it’s self, I remember that if you wanted it to turn on and off with the bike, the piece you need didn’t come with it. Its not a pricey thing you need but yeah I’m pretty sure it didn’t come with it, which wasn’t. Problem for me because I like being able to run it with the bike being on.

What external amplifier can be used in the description it states one can be?

Kuryakyn does not offer one specifically for it. You would need to contact MTX directly.

Will it play straight from a flash drive with music on it?

No it will not play from a flash drive. The USB is a charging port only.

Does this product have an auto-shutoff due to inactivity? Or do I have to wire it to the ignition/ accessory wire?

I wouldn’t even mess with ignition wire. I wired mine to the tail light and it works just fine. The unit has built in circuit protection that will kick in and likely wreck the unit if you wire it to something unfused and strong by accident.

Will the Kuryankyn Road Thunder speaker fit on a 2” handlebars

Yes

Is there any reason why i should not just connect both the red and orange to the same acc/ignition wire? i have spare, keyed power at my headlight.

Yes. if you were to put the red power wire to any accessory power source, it will not retain the memory of being Bluetooth connected to your phone or device, and would need to be repaired to the device everytime you used the soundbar.

Are there speakers you can add to this?

It’s a blue tooth speaker but I will guarantee you will NOT need to add any speakers this is its very loud best money spent

When you hook the speaker up, will it drain a stock alternator/ battery? Or will stock be adequate?

The install properly with the orange wire to a keyed hot source the stock alternator and battery are sufficient to power the MTX Sound Bar.

Does anyone else’s take a minute to connect everytime you turn on the bike?

Do you mean when pairing the Bluetooth? If so, the first time it took a minute but after it pairs pretty quick. It could be the music app that’s taking a minute to start up as well.

Is this thing water and mud proof ?

I believe it’s water proof or at least water resistant for sure. I’ve got caught in the rain before with mine and played music while riding and it still works fine. As far as Mud proof I have no clue how you would get the mud out of the vents.
