Tell Manufacturing DB2041 Single and Double Cylinder Deadbolts
Product Information
This product is an adjustable latch for door locks. It is designed to fit a backset of either 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches. The latch comes with a template for marking the door and includes an interior mechanism for both single and double cylinder locks. The product is manufactured by Tell Manufacturing, a division of Spectrum Brands Inc.
Product Usage Instructions
- Adjusting the Backset:
- Rotate the latch case in the desired direction to achieve a backset of 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches.
- Marking the Door:
- Select the desired backset (2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches) and mark the center of the hole on the door face.
- Installing the Latch:
- Insert the latch in the hole and keep it parallel to the door face.
- Mark the outline of the face plate and remove the latch.
- Chisel 5/32 inch deep or until the face plate is flush with the door edge.
- Insert the latch again and tighten the screw.
- Drilling Holes:
- Drill a 2-1/8 inch hole through the door face from both sides to avoid wood splitting.
- For latch installation, drill 1 hole.
- Installing the Strike:
- Close the door to determine the horizontal center line of the strike.
- Measure half of the door thickness from the door stop and vertically mark the center line of the strike.
- Drill 1 hole at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical lines.
- Mark the outline using the strike plate and chisel 1/16 inch deep for the strike.
- Insert the latch and tighten the screw.
- Inserting Tailpiece:
- Insert the tailpiece horizontally into the latch crank.
- Installing Interior Mechanism – Single Cylinder:
- Slide the turn piece and interior rosette onto the torque blade.
- Ensure that both flanges are inserted into the hole on the door face.
- Insert machine screws through the holes, engaging them with the cylinder, and tighten firmly.
- Installing Interior Mechanism – Double Cylinder:
- Press the interior assembly flush against the door, ensuring that the tailpiece is properly positioned in the latch crank with the keyhole in the down position.
- Insert the interior tailpiece into the exterior blade.
- Insert two screws through countersunk holes, engaging them with the exterior cylinder, and tighten firmly.

ADJUSTABLE LATCH FOR 2-3/8” OR 2-3/4” BACKSET
Backset is a distance from door edge to center of hole on door face. Some locks are supplied with adjustable latch which can fit 2-3/8” or 2-3/4” backset. Just follow the steps shown below to change backset.
Latch backset adjustment:
Rotate the latch case following illustration for backset 2-3/8” or reverse direction for 2-3/4”. -
MARK DOOR WITH TEMPLATE
Select 2-3/8” or 2-3/4” backset as desired and mark center of hole on door face. -
DRILL HOLES
- Drill 2-1/8” hole through door face, from both sides to avoid wood splitting.
- Drill 1” hole for latch. (refer step 4c for drive-in latch)

INSTALL LATCH
- Insert latch in hole and keep it parallel to door face. Mark outline of face plate and remove latch.
- Chisel 5/32” deep or until face plate flush with door edge.
- Insert latch and tighten screw.

INSTALL STRIKE
- Close door to make horizontal center line of strike.
- Measure one half of door thickness from door stop and vertically mark center line of strike. Drill 1” hole, 1” deep at intersection of horizontal and vertical line of strike. Mark outline using strike plate and chisel 1/16” deep for strike.
- Insert latch and tighten screw.
Template
INSTALL EXTERIOR MECHANISM SINGLE CYLINDER
- Press cylinder side flush against door making certain the tailpiece is properly positioned horizontally in latch crank.
- Tapped holes in housing of exterior cylinder should be lined up with screw holes.
- Key hole should be in down position.
INSERT TAILPIECE HORIZONTALLY INTO LATCH CRANK.
INSTALL INTERIOR MECHANISM SINGLE CYLINDER
- Slide turn piece and interior rosette onto torque blade.
- Make sure both flanges are put into the hole on the door face.
- Insert machine screws through holes engaging holes in cylinder and tighten firmly.
INSTALL INTERIOR MECHANISM DOUBLE CYLINDER
- Press interior assembly flush against door, making certain the tailpiece is properly positioned in latch crank. Key hole should be in down position.
- The interior tailpiece is inserted into the exterior blade.
- Insert two screws through countersunk holes engaging holes in exterior cylinder and tighten firmly.
