Practical handling
Positioning
TransferMattress including nylon cover and/or tube foil is positioned under
the user by rolling the user slightly away from the direction of movement,
preferably using a draw sheet. TransferMattress is positioned under the user
after which the user is rolled back.
TransferMattress should only be laid a few inches under the user. Position the
user’s head and legs carefully onto the mattress. If possible, it is helpful
to cross the user’s legs so that the leg that is closest to the glide mattress
is lowest with the other leg crossed over it. It is also helpful to start the
transfer with a slight push (Illustration 1).
Use
By applying a little pressure to the shoulder and hip, the carer can move
the user over onto the other bed/table. If a draw sheet is used, it is a good
idea to position TransferMattress underneath the draw sheet. Positioning then
takes place as described above, but using the draw sheet to pull on
(Illustrations 1 and 2).
TransferMattress can easily be removed by sliding the glide mattress out from
under the user: The carer places one hand over the mattress and the other
under it. Then, the carer eases the nylon material away with the upper hand
while pulling towards him/herself with the lower hand.
