DESIGNED USE
Spasciani H 900 A2B2E2K2P3 and H 900 A2B2E2K2HgP3 escape respirators are designed for use in sudden leaks from industrial plants, due to accidents or other reasons, of toxic substances for the respiratory tract. These substances may be organic or inorganic gas and vapours, sulphur dioxide, hydrochloric acid and other acid gases, ammonia and its derivates, and dust, smoke and mist. The masks are suitable for a leak lasting certified 15 minutes and can only be used once. The hood has also been tested in accordance with the EN 403 standard and therefore has a very high degree of protection; it is class M, which means it can be worn in by people during the work shift or stored in the workplace.

Filter performance
The H 900 hood is equipped with high-capacity filters, the performance of which far exceeds the duration of 15 minutes. They are certified EN 14387:2004/A1:2008 as combined filters with class 2 gas protection and class P3 particle protection and two models are available:

  • Test 2: Max Penetration till 120 mg aerosol exposition
  • Test 3: Penetration (media calculated 30 sec after the test beginning) after 120 mg aerosol exposition and 24h storage
The performance of the combined filters far exceeds the duration of 15 minutes required for escape filtering devices (see DIN 58647-7) at a double test concentration (5000 ppm used for class 2 against the 2500 ppm required by DIN 58647- 7). This means that the filter guarantees a duration of more than 15 minutes even in the case of environments with high concentrations of pollutants.
As Atex devices, it bears the marking shown below and can be used in the described fields:

LIMITATIONS TO USE

  • Only use if the surrounding air has an oxygen volume content between 17 and 21% (or as specified in current national laws).

  • Do not use the device to evacuate silos or confined spaces generally or for rescue operations.

  • Do not use the H 900 A2B2E2K2P3 and H 900 A2B2E2K2HgP3 hoods if carbon monoxide is present (CO).
The devices are for single use only and must not be reused a second time. They must be disposed of or sent to Spasciani SPA or authorized workshops for regeneration.

  • The device lea tightness depends on the size and shape of the user’s face, e.g. beard, sideburns, deep scars, could all affect the perfect leaktightness between the half-mask edge, the collar and the face.

  • Users with long hair must make sure to completely cover it with the hood to ensure sealing.

  • The presence of eyeglasses could make it difficult to wear the hood. It is recommended to take them off before using the device.

  • These devices are not recommended for users having narrow neck (circumference < 260 mm, such as children), since the necessary sealing could not be achieved.

  • The respirator can only be used for leaks or self-preservation operations and only if there is a risk of toxic substances even in high concentrations, thanks to the large capacity of the filter in not very high concentrations.

  • The device provides limited protection against solvents with low boiling point.

  • As soon as you smell or taste the pollutants, leave the area: this means the filter is saturated.

USE

Before use
Check the package before use. Do not use the respirator if the seal seems compromised. Do not use the respirator if the bag is opened or damaged. Always check the expiry date on the label on the bag.

Use (See Fig.1, 2, 3)

  • Open the bag by gripping with one hand the part marked with the “SPASCIANI” logo and pull strongly downward with the other hand until the sealed part opens completely, as shown in Fig.1. Should the bag not get opened the first time, grasp directly the flap of the bag and open.

  • Pull out the hood by the fabric; avoid pulling by the valve or by the elastic strap; follow the indications given shown in Fig.2.

  • Wear the hood as shown in Fig.3: enlarge the elastic collar using both hands; position and pull the hood over the head until it fits properly.
No special adjustment is required since the elastic strap causes the half-mask to adhere to the face of the user. If the mask is not correctly positioned, grasp it by the filter and pull forward to position properly the mask so that it adheres perfectly to the mouth and nose. The hair must be completely covered by the hood.

  • Once the hood is on the user’s face, identify the escape route. Breathe calmly.

After use
The hood used in an atmosphere with contaminants should be disposed, together with the exhausted filter (see par. 7). If you have worn it but you have not come into contact with a polluted atmosphere and only the packaging is no longer intact, the cap can be sent to SPASCIANI SPA for an examination and possible restoration of the device. Always contact SPASCIANI before sending the devices to be restored.

MAINTENANCE / EXPIRY DATE

The maximum life of the complete hood is 10 years. When the expiry date of 5 years is reached, as indicated on the label applied to the bag or if the vacuum-sealed aluminum bag is damaged, the product must be sent to Spasciani or to the authorized workshops, which will check the weight of the sealed product; in the event of significant variations in weight, the filter will be replaced (using the restoration kit). After verification, the useful life of the hood will be extended by another 5 years and an additional label will be affixed to the bag indicating the month and year of the next expiry. Respirator maintenance must only be carried out by specialised trained personnel and using only original Spasciani spare parts. Always contact SPASCIANI SPA for assistance and maintenance.

STORAGE / TRANSPORT

The materials used possess excellent anti-ageing qualities. It is, however, recommended to store the new packed respirators in ventilated warehouses, at normal room temperature. Do not expose to direct sunlight and to temperatures lower than -20°C or higher than +50°C. When carried on the belt, avoid immersing the container in water or exposing it to heat sources. Extreme temperatures for long periods could affect the product performances. It is recommended to keep the new devices in their original packaging during transport and storage, so as to protect them from possible impacts and exposure to dust. Avoid overlapping heavy objects on the device to prevent them from getting damaged or deformed.

****| It is recommended to keep the new devices in their original packaging during transport and storage in order to protect them from possible impacts, rubbing exposure to dust.

The ABEK protection is not subjected to CE certification and has been tested only to obtain information on the additional protection; check the Table 1 for the description of the performances.

PERMITTED USE
The Escape Hoods H 900 CO P and H 900 ABEK CO P have been developed to be used as filtering respiratory protective device during evacuation in case of fire (H 900 CO P) or fire implying emission of chemical substances (H 900 ABEK CO P). The hood is intended solely as disposable emergency item and ensures protection only if the surrounding air has normal oxygen content (17-21%). Maximum use time: 15 minutes.
The escape hoods comply with EN 403:2004 – M and must be worn by people.

LIMITS OF USE

  • Use only if the surrounding air has an oxygen content volume ranging between 17 and 21%.
  • These devices are disposable.
  • Users wearing beard and sideburns or having deep scars may not achieve perfect sealing between the mask and the face.
  • Users with long hair must make sure to completely cover it with the hood to ensure sealing.
  • These devices are not recommended for users having narrow neck (circumference < 260 mm, such as children), since the necessary sealing could not be achieved.
  • The presence of eyeglasses could make it difficult to wear the hood. It is recommended to take them off before using the device.
  • Since the hood filters contain a catalyst, under certain conditions the user could experience an increase in the temperature of the air inhaled. This does not affect the performance of the filter and the health of the user

USE

Before use
Check the package before use. Do not use the respirator if the seal seems compromised. Do not use the respirator if the bag is opened or damaged.
Always check the expiry date on the label on the bag.

Use
(See Fig.1, 2, 3)

The air inhaled could be slightly heated; it is normal operation and indicates that the filter is filtering.

| WARNING!
The device must not be used in environments where a high concentration of gas of the IIC group (> 10%) could occur, since the filter could overheat and pose a danger to the user. The device is a filtering type and the condition of breathable air must always exist, that is, with an O2 concentration> 17%.

MAINTENANCE / EXPIRY DATE
The maximum life duration of the escape protective hood is of 10 years; as indicated on the label on the bag, after 5 years it is required to check the condition of the device. The device must be sent to Spasciani or to Authorised Workshops, which will check the weight of the product sealed; in case of significant changes in weight, the filter will be replaced. After verification, the useful life of the cap will be extended by 5 more years.
The escape protective hood must be disposed of after 10 years.
Maintenance of the escape protective hood must be performed only by specially trained qualified personnel and should only be made using original spare parts manufactured by Spasciani.

| WARNING!
Since the devices are disposable, no cleaning is required. If there is a need to clean the container, use a damp cloth.

| It is recommended to keep the new devices in their original packaging during transport and storage in order to protect them from possible impacts, rubbing exposure to dust.
