DESCRIPTION

The M 900 P3 particle respirator is certified according to the EN 1827:1999+A1:2009 standard, with the following designation: half‐mask without inhalation valve EN 1827:1999 FM P3 NR.
The half‐mask is formed of:

  • Moulded anatomical silicone half‐mask, with a specific plug‐in connection to house the filter and with an exhalation valve protected by a cover.
  • Silicone harness with a 2‐point connection and fast adjustment buckle.
  • M 900 FM P3 NR particle filter, firmly tightened inside the half‐mask.

DESIGNED USE

Spasciani’s M 900 P3 half‐mask with particle filter offers protection from dust, smoke and mist in the air inhaled by the user, and it can only be used once.
Using the device is subject to the correct maintenance and replacement of the filter. It does not protect from Carbon Monoxide!

LIMITATIONS TO USE

  • Only use if the surrounding air has an oxygen volume concentration between 17 and 21% (or as specified in current national laws).
  • Do not use in oxygen enriched atmospheres.
  • Do not use the device to evacuate silos or confined spaces generally.
  • Do not use if carbon monoxide is present (CO).
  • The  device  leaktightness  depends  on  the  size  and  shape  of  the  user’s  face,  e.g. beard, sideburns, deep scars, could all affect the perfect leaktightness between the mask edge and the face.
  • It is a disposable filter that must not be used more than once.
  • The half‐mask allows wearing goggles.
  • The  respiratory  protection  device  must  be  chosen  considering  the  concentration and type of pollutant that protection is needed against.
  • No protection is given against any type of gas or vapour.
  • The respirator must be changed when breathing resistance becomes unbearable.
  • The respirator must be used for one work shift only.
  • The respirator can be used in explosive environments.

USE

Before use
Visually check the half‐mask before using it. If the mask or filter looks damaged, do not use  the  respirator.  Always  check  the  expiry  date  on the  container  label.  Expired  respirators must not be used.

Use
See Fig.1 and Fig.2
Place the half‐mask over your face, pass the harness around your neck taking care that the straps do not get twisted, as shown in fig. 1, then adjust them by pulling the ends, not too tight, until the mask is perfectly tightened (fig. 2).
A leaktightness test can be performed: cover the filter with both hands and breath out hard. If any air passes through the facepiece, position it better and tighten the harness more.

STORAGE

The materials used have excellent anti‐age properties. However, it is advisable to store new, packaged respirators in a well‐ventilated storage rooms at normal room temperature. Do not expose them to direct sunlight or temperatures below ‐20°C or above +50°C. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures could reduce the product shelf life.
The maximum life for an escape respirator is 10 years, as shown on the packaging label. Dispose of the escape respirator after 10 years (see the half‐mask production date printed inside it).
It is advisable to keep new devices in their original packaging during transport and storage, to protect them from shocks and dust. Do not place heavy items on top of the device because they could damage and deform it.

Maintenance serves to reinstate the respirator, so it can be used again.

Cleaning and disinfecting
The half‐mask must be cleaned carefully after each use to remove all traces of sweat and condensation from inside. To do this, remove the filter, and wash the mask with warm water using neutral soap and a soft cloth. Rinse under running water. To disinfect the mask, rub the silicon part in contact with the user’s face using a cloth soaked in normal disinfectant (e.g. solution based on electrolytic oxidising chlorine).
Rinse carefully under running water to prevent the silicone absorbing the cleansing and disinfecting substances. It is always advisable to wash and disinfect it after each use. Do  not  use  solvents  (e.g.  acetone  or alcohol)  or  detergents  containing  abrasive  particles.

Maintenance intervals

Check the half‐mask
It is good practice to check the respirator is in good working order before each use and,  if  the  mask  is  in  storage,  every  year.  Carefully  check the  membrane  in  the  exhalation valve is in good condition and not stuck to its housing, and also check the facepiece  and  harness  are  in  good condition.  If  any  parts  need  changing,  only  use  original Spasciani spare parts (contact the commercial office for any spare parts that are not listed in paragraph 8).

Changing the exhalation membrane
To check and change the exhalation membrane, if need be, without using any tools, proceed as follows:

  • Open the valve cover by pulling the tab on the edge.
  • Remove the membrane by pulling it forcefully outwards
  • Change the membrane, sliding the pin into the hole and pulling it from inside the  half‐mask
  • Replace the cover.

Changing the filter
To change the filter without using any tools, proceed as follows:

  • By hand, pull the filter out of its housing in the half‐mask
  • Throw the used filter away
  • Insert the new filter after removing its protective film: place the filter connection in its  housing  in  the  half‐mask  at  an  angle  of  approximately  60°;  rotate  the  filter pushing it into the half‐mask until it is firmly fixed in place.
  • Check the filter is in the correct position by looking inside the half‐mask.

Disposal
Used  filters  must  be  disposed  of  as  hazardous  waste,  according  to current  waste  disposal laws.
