Installation Guide

OVER WOOD SUBFLOORS

Note: All backer board sizes and thicknesses can be used as tile underlayments over wood subfloors.

  • Using a 1/4” x 1/4” square notch trowel, apply the recommended thin-set mortar to the floor, provided the subfloor is even and load-bearing.
  • Place the backer board panels into a mortar and apply weight equally across the surface to ensure a strong bond between the panel and the floor.
  • All joints should be staggered so that no seam continues throughout the length of the floor.
  • Using the recommended screws and washers, fasten into seams every 12” to create flush transitions.
  • All seams and fasteners should be filled in with the recommended joint sealant & spread evenly with a putty knife.

Note:
For concrete subfloors, make sure the concrete floor is fully cured and free of debris, oil or waxes. Some concrete floors may require priming or vapor retarders prior to thin-set mortar installations.
