CONGRATULATIONS on choosing the Ascendo’s The 12 Passive On Wall & On Ceiling Loudspeakers. This powerful point source coaxial two-way loudspeaker features a 34mm tweeter diaphragm and voice coil technology with a strong single magnet system capable of outstanding performance. Please take a few moments to read this manual. The advice it contains will enable you to get the very best performance out of your Ascendo Immersive Audio loudspeakers.
UNPACKING AND MAINTENANCE
Your speaker should be treated with the same care you would treat a piece of furniture. Use only a piece of a soft cloth and a small quantity of warm soapy water to clean the surface of the loudspeaker. Avoid touching the cone of the bass unit since this may leave a fingermark or even damage the dome and alter its performance. After unpacking, we suggest you retain all packing material for future transports if needed.
RUNNING-IN PERIOD
The performance of the speaker will change subtly during the break-in period of 50 to 100 hours because the moving parts will soften. Please allow your new speakers to play about 50 hours of music at normal or above normal listening level before doing any critical listening.
ROOM POSITIONING
The performance of every loudspeaker system in a room varies greatly with its placement. Those 12 Passive On-Wall speakers are designed for On Wall or On Ceiling mounts to take advantage of the so-called boundary gain obtained in the lower frequency notes. The speakers must be installed hanging on the wall or ceiling. You will experience the most accurate sound picture if you listen from a position halfway between the loudspeakers. This holds also true using the speakers as object-based Dolby Atmos® Ceiling or Surround speakers. Objects in the direct sound path can disturb the coherence of the sound picture. Try out different positions before deciding on a final arrangement.
MOUNTING
The 12 Passive On Wall speaker possesses multiple mounting options. They have “keyholes” on the backside to allow hanging them on the wall, and they possess a “VESA” 100×200 Mounting option to use a standard VESA 100×200 mount. Because the speaker is a vented design, it must be mounted in a way that allows free airflow from the port and the speaker driver.
FRONT CLOTH PANEL
The 12 Passive On Wall speaker comes with a magnetic attached front-mounted
frame, covered with acoustic transparent cloth. The covers can be easily
removed by pulling them away
NOTE!
The 12 Passive On Wall should be installed on a wall or on a ceiling for best
performance. The full sound performance of these speakers is obtained, when
they are wall/ceiling mounted by taking advantage of the boundary gain giving
them extended low-frequency performance.
CONNECTIONS
Make sure to turn off all amplifiers before connecting your new speakers to your system. Connect the cables to the terminals. Use the marking of the cable to ensure that the red or “+* mark of the amplifier is connected to the “+” side of the terminal, also marked with red. We recommend high-quality loudspeaker cables. Ask your dealer or Installer for the best cables suiting your needs.
POWER HANDLING
ASCENDO recommends using amplifiers with a high dynamic power range. The most important thing is, that the amplifier has sufficient power reserves for handling peaks and transients present in the music signal. The power rating figure of a loudspeaker depends mostly on the clean power provided by the amplifier. A power rating of e.g. 600W RMS says only that you can play a continuous tone of 1kHz at this output. It does not mean that you can turn the volume all the way up on a 100W amplifier and expect clear sound and healthy speakers. The greatest danger to a loudspeaker is distorted or clipped amplifier signals. Distorting amplifiers produce overtones in the entire spectrum, with a high energy that can easily damage the speaker units. Because a more powerful amplifier can play without producing output distortion, we have the paradox here, it is a greater risk to damage speakers by playing loud with a smaller amplifier.
CAUTION!
If you hear distortion when you increase the volume this is normally a sign of
overloading the amplifier or the speaker and you should immediately reduce the
output level to not damage the speakers permanently. The use of loudness,
bass, or treble boost controls increases the risk of overloading the
amplifier. We recommend that you use these controls with great care. Please
practice great caution when adjusting volume levels as this speaker can play
well above an SPL level that can and will result in permanent listening damage
if not used responsibly.
