Before the first use

Before using the coffee machine for the first time, proceed as follows: Carefully unpack your coffee machine and remove all packaging material and possible promotional stickers. Keep the packaging (plastic bags and cardboard) out of the reach of children. After unpacking the machine, check it for external damage that may have occurred during transport.
Place the coffee machine on a flat surface. It is recommended to clean the inside of the new coffee machine prior to using it for the first time. Do this by filling the water reservoir with cold water and allowing the water to flow through the machine without coffee. Repeat this once or twice.
Clean the glass jug, filter holder, and permanent coffee filter with hot soapy water, then rinse properly and wipe dry. Never use abrasives!
Important: Only use cold water for cleaning the inside of the coffee machine. Hot water has a negative effect on the life span of the machine.

Making coffee

Check that the voltage stated on the information plate matches the voltage used in your region. Place the coffee machine on a flat, stable surface. Insert the plug in an earthed wall socket.

  1. Fold up the cover of the water reservoir and using the glass jug fill it with cold water to the required level (the lines indicate the number of cups).
  2. Place the permanent coffee filter or a paper coffee filter (size 1 x 4) of which the edges have been folded back in the filter holder. This prevents the filter bag from folding inwards and closing.
  3. Fill the coffee filter with the required amount of coffee (extra fine grind) and softly shake it until the coffee is distributed evenly. For 10 cups, according to taste, you can use 5 to 6 measuring spoons of coffee, or 6 grams of coffee per cup. In case of a smaller number of cups, you can change the amount of coffee accordingly.
  4. Close the cover.
  5. Place the glass jug on the hot plate.
  6. Press the on/off key once. The red indicator light in the display will turn on. The machine is operational and the coffee will be made.
  7. Once the filter process has been completed, remove the glass jug from the hot plate and pour out the coffee.
  8. Coffee tastes best immediately after it has been made, so do not wait too long before serving. The glass jug can immediately be placed back on the hot plate or you can pour the coffee into a thermos jug.

Attention: This coffee machine comes with a drip stop. This means that the flow of coffee is stopped immediately when the glass jug is removed. The filter holder is closed, thus blocking the flow of coffee. Be sure to place back the glass jug as quickly as possible to prevent the filter from overflowing.
SWITCHING OFF
The machine can be switched off at any time by pressing the on/off key. The red indicator light will turn off.
If the coffee machine is not switched off immediately, the coffee is kept hot for 35 minutes. After these 35 minutes, the machine switches off automatically. This means that the machine is in compliance with European energy efficiency legislation.
When using a paper filter bag, do not forget to remove it and throw it away. Raise the cover of the filter holder and remove the filter holder. Throw the filter bag away and place the filter holder back on the bracket. When using a permanent coffee filter, you can empty, clean, and reuse it.

Setting the time and programming automatic brewing

To have the coffee machine brew coffee automatically at the required time, you must set the clock to the current time.

  1. Press the CLOCK key to set the current time and the pre-set time.

  2. When CLOCK appears on the display, you can use the HOUR and MIN keys to set the current time.

  3. When TIMER appears on the display, you can use the HOUR and MIN keys to program the time at which the coffee machine should start making coffee.

  4. Press the STRENGTH key to set the strength of the aroma. You can choose between: and . This setting determines the speed of the water flow. When the water runs through slowly, the coffee will be stronger.

  5. Press the ON/OFF key once. The red indicator light in the display will turn on. The machine is operational and the coffee is brewed immediately.

  6. Press the ON/OFF key twice, and the blue indicator light will turn on. The coffee machine will now make coffee at the time set by you. Once the pre-set time has been reached, the blue indicator light will turn off and the red indicator light will turn on.

  7. If you press the ON/OFF key three times, you will return to the original position. The indicator lights are off.

Cleaning & maintenance

Regularly clean the coffee machine. This is not only beneficial for the life span of the machine, but also ensures optimum use and, of course, great coffee.
Cleaning should involve the following:

  • Prior to cleaning, check that the coffee machine has been switched off and that the plug has been removed from the wall socket.
  • Regularly clean the outside of the machine using a slightly moist cloth and wipe it dry with a dry cloth. Never use abrasives. Never rinse the machine under the tap or submerge it in water.
  • Clean the glass jug with cover, filter holder, and permanent coffee filter with hot water and a mild washing-up liquid. Thoroughly rinse the glass jug with hot water. Thoroughly dry the glass jug before placing it back on the hot plate. Do not clean the glass jug, filter holder, and permanent coffee filter in a dishwasher.

De-scaling

Regularly de-scale your coffee machine. The de-scaling interval depends on the hardness of the mains water and the coffee machine’s frequency of use. We recommend de-scaling the coffee machine after using one box of filter bags (approx. 40 brews). Due to scaling, the heating element can become obstructed. This causes overheating, as a result of which the coffee machine is switched off automatically as a safety precaution and will no longer function. The machine will have to be repaired. You can de-scale the coffee machine with a special de-scaling agent for coffee machines or with kitchen-grade vinegar. If you use a special de-scaling agent for coffee machines, you must observe the instructions on the packaging of this agent.
When using kitchen-grade vinegar, proceed as follows:

  1. Switch off the machine by pressing the on/off key. Remove the plug from the wall socket and remove all separate components (glass jug, filter holder, and permanent coffee filter).
  2. To remove any remaining water, hold the machine upside down above the sink.
  3. Fill half the water reservoir with cold kitchen-grade vinegar and fill it up with clean, cold water. Place the glass jug on the hot plate and place the filter holder back on the machine with an empty filter bag.
  4. Switch on the machine.
  5. Allow half the kitchen-grade vinegar with added water to flow through and then switch off the machine. Wait for approximately 15 minutes and then switch the machine back on. As a result, the scale will be softened and removed.
  6. After de-scaling, allow at least 3 water reservoirs of cold, clean water to flow through the machine to remove all de-scaling liquid and vinegar residues and prevent a foreign taste in the coffee.

Caution! If the coffee machine has not been used for some time, e.g. due to vacation, it is recommended to remove and clean all separate components. Then place the separate cleaned components back and run the coffee machine once with clean water. In this way, you will prevent a possible foreign taste.
