GENERAL INFORMATION

The Gasmate Watertech is activated by water pressure.

  • If there is not enough water pressure, the Watertech unit will not function.
  • Restricted water flow (kinked hose or dirty filter) will affect the operation of the Watertech unit.
  • This Watertech unit is not meant for permanent use. It is meant for temporary use while camping.

The Gasmate Watertech comes with a flame-viewing panel.

  • Look through the panel to see the flames.
  • If there is no flame, then the burner has not ignited.
  • A still blue flame with yellow tips is perfect.
  • If the flame appears to move side to side or stretches, this indicates there is too much wind.
  • If the flame is yellow, there is an issue with the gas mixture.

The Gasmate Watertech is fitted with a temperature sensor and will shut off once it reaches 50°C.

  1. Remove from the box and check that all the accessories are included. Select a strong, secure and non-flammable position to locate the shower.Gasmate-HWS0012-Portable-Hot-Water-System-fig- \(7\)

  2. Wrap Thread Tape several times around the Gas Inlet, Water Inlet and Outlet connections at the base of the unit to ensure a tight adaptor fit. Check that the rubber washers are secure inside the water adaptors and then attach and tighten. Check that the rubber washer is secure inside the Gas adaptor and attach and tighten. The female Gas adaptor must be tightened with a spanner – DO NOT FINGER TIGHTEN.

  3. Insert 2 x “D” Cell batteries (not included) in the battery compartment and secure the door.

  4. Check that the power switch is in the “OFF” position. Place the pump in a suitable water reservoir and attach the blue hose to the appliance and connect the power lead to the pump connection.
WARNING – Only operate with the pump supplied and never connect to mains pressure water supply.

  5. Connect Showerhead to Red Water Outlet hose. Set Showerhead to ‘Open’ position.

  6. Connect the red hose to the water outlet on the appliance.

  7. Check that the switch on the unit is in “OFF” position and then connect the power cable for the 12VDC Power Supply. Connect the male cigarette fitting to a suitable DC power source.

  8. Hang the Watertech Unit in its intended location. The unit should hang vertically and securely on a non-flammable surface. Ensure it is in a sheltered but well-ventilated area and that it won’t be sprayed with water while in operation (follow full Safety Instructions on page 2 and 3). Mount the showerhead bracket using the mounting kit provided.

  9. Connect the hose adaptor to the outlet on the gas cylinder. Turn the cylinder on in an anti-clockwise direction one (1) full turn. Check all LPG connections for leaks with a solution of soapy water (do not use a flame).

If a leak is detected turn the cylinder valve off, allow any residual gas to disperse, retighten all connections then retest.

OPERATION

It is IMPORTANT that the following steps are followed to ensure that the appliance will start correctly.

  1. Turn Season Control to SUMMER.
If the source water temperature is above 10ºC, keep the season control knob at SUMMER. If the source water temperature is below 10ºC, turn the season control to WINTER.

  2. Turn GAS Control to MIN.

  3. Set WATER to HIGH.

  4. Check that the Showerhead flow control switch to ‘Open’. You can now control your unit from the showerhead, push the button to the ‘Stop’ position to stop the water flow and the flame will extinguish.

  5. Turn POWER SWITCH ON.

ADJUSTING WATER TEMPERATURE

SUMMER MODE
  1. To increase the Water Temperature when in SUMMER mode, turn GAS Control to SUMMER MAX and allow the temperature to stabilize.
  2. Adjusting the Water Flow will also help to achieve the desired Water Temperature (i.e. The higher the flow rate – the cooler the water will be. The lower the flow rate – the hotter the water will be).

NOTE: The unit will switch off automatically if the water temperature exceeds 50ºC.

If ideal temperature is not achieved with the SUMMER setting the following steps can be followed:

WINTER MODE
  1. Turn the GAS Control to MIN.
  2. Set the WATER FLOW to HIGH.
  3. Turn the Control to WINTER.
  4. To increase the Water Temperature, turn the GAS Control to WINTER MAX and allow the temperature to stabilize.
Note: Winter Max is shown on the dial and is different to summer Max.

The Watertech Portable Hot Water System is equipped with the following safety features:

  • Over Temperature Sensor – the appliance will not allow the burner to remain in operation once the outlet water temperature reaches 45-50ºC. To reset the over-temperature sensor, shut off the unit at the power supply, let the unit cool before restarting.
  • Water Flow Sensor – water must be flowing through the system to allow the burner to ignite. In the case that the water supply is restricted or ceases, ie. the Flow Switch is in the “OFF” position, the burner will be extinguished and will not relight until the water flow recommences.
  • Tilt Sensor – If the unit falls over or is not level the Tilt Sensor will be activated and the burner will not ignite. Once the appliance is level the operation can continue.

TROUBLESHOOTING

NO GAS
All QCC regulators (the part that attaches to the gas cylinder to regulate the flow of gas) have a safety feature included that restricts gas flow in the event of a gas leak. You can inadvertently activate this safety feature without having a gas leak. This typically occurs when you turn on the Gas Control knob before turning on the gas cylinder valve. If the gas regulator safety feature activates, the unit will operate with reduced output as gas flow is restricted.

These steps should be taken first to reset the gas regulator safety device:

  1. Turn gas cylinder valve off.
  2. Disconnect the regulator from the gas cylinder.
  3. Wait 30 seconds. Reconnect the regulator to the gas cylinder.
  4. Leak test the connection using a soapy water solution. Ensure no bubbles appear before proceeding.
  5. Slowly open the gas cylinder valve all the way. Do not put excessive force on the valve at the full open position, to avoid damaging the valve.
  6. Light the appliance.

PUMP NOT GOING

  1. Check power leads connections.
  2. Check 12v connections.
  3. Check batteries.

FLAME NOT LIT
Check gas bottle is on.

THE UNIT SHUT DOWN SHORTLY AFTER STARTING

  1. Strong winds might have extinguished the flame, ensure unit is sheltered. Check the water flow and pressure. The unit must have a minimum of 70KPa, at low water flow of sustained water pressure and at least 4 litres to activate the burners.
  2. Outlet water might have reached 50 degrees, which will then activate the safety cut out device. Increase the water flow and lower the flame setting.

THE WATER IS NOT HOT ENOUGH

  1. Make sure the unit is on WINTER mode, now adjust the water flow down and the gas to high.
  2. Check the quality of the flame through the viewing window. If the flame is yellow rather than blue, the gas regulator might not be operating correctly, please switch the unit off and contact Gasmate Customer service on 0800 161 161 (NZ).

APPLIANCE WILL NOT IGNITE

  1. Ensure new batteries are installed in the correct polarity (+/-). Check the batteries are not past their expiration date.
  2. Check for sufficient water flow and pressure, The unit must have a minimum of 70KPa, at low water flow of sustained water pressure and at least 4 litres to activate the burners.
  3. If you can hear the clicking sound of the ignitor, the batteries might be faulty or running low. This is likely if you can hear 1-2 slow clicks per second, rather than your 4-5 clicks at full power. If unsure, try a new set of batteries.

PUMP MAKES NOISE BUT DOES NOT PUMP WATER

  1. Ensure that the inlet hose suction filter is clear, if clogged, disassemble and rinse individual parts.

FLOW PRESSURE HAS REDUCED

  1. Ensure the hoses are free from kinks and debris that may be blocking the water flow.
  2. Ensure that all water hose connections are tight and that there are no air leaks.
  3. Ensure that the inlet filter is free from blockages.

MAINTENANCE & SERVICE

During operation if it is noted that the burner flame is unstable, is changing colour from blue to yellow or has a distinct smell it is important that you take the appliance to your local authorised gas appliance repairer for inspection. Periodically check the gas control is tight and has no leaks, follow the testing for leaks procedure. Check the gas connection and regulator for any signs of wear or damage, if identified contact customer service for a replacement assembly immediately.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Using warm soapy water with a mild detergent, wipe down all surfaces and areas of the appliance, taking care not to allow water to enter the burner outlets or aeration holes located in the burner tube. DO NOT submerge the appliance in a sink or bowl. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or bleach.
