CL160 – Code Change Instructions

Push Button Lock
EasyCode CL160 locks can be used at home on doors, garages and garden sheds, and at work in offices, workshops and storerooms requiring restricted access. Available in Silver Grey.

Many Codes to Choose From
The code chamber consists of 10 buttons from which the code is selected. The ‘C’ button is used to re-set the chamber after an incorrect entry, and which must always be used as the first digit of a code. The ‘A’ button is used to change the code; see code change sequences. Buttons may only be used ONCE in a code. For example, 1212 is not possible.
A code, or combination, can be entered in any order or sequence; e.g. 1234 can be 4321 or 1342 or whatever sequence is most convenient to remember. With 10 buttons, over 1000 different codes are available, any of which can be entered in any sequence.

The total is arrived at as follows: Locks come complete with random code selected. The lock can be placed into Easy Code Function or Quick Code Function. Easy Code requires the lock to be removed from the door. Quick Code is an optional function that allows the code to be changed while the lock is fitted to the door.
It is recommended that the code is changed regularly to prevent compromise.

Code Change Sequences
Prior to Installation

  1. Select front plate and identify ‘A’ button (FIG 1). On initial installation this button will be fixed by a retaining screw on the inside face of the front plate.

  2. Remove retaining screw to begin code change process.

  3. Enter code, rotate lever and hold in place, depress ‘A’ button and hold in place, release lever, holding ‘A’ button.

  4. Release the ‘A’ button which is now held in the retained position by the lock. The lock is now in Code Change Mode, (FIG 2).

  5. Locate code card (item 10 on installation contents list). Ignoring the ‘C’ and ‘A’ buttons, rotate each digit of the code anti-clockwise (FIG 4) using the code change tool provided and ensure the indicators on the back are all facing inwards (FIG 3).

  6. Select and enter your new code rotating each digit clockwise using the code change tool provided (FIG 5).

  7. Press ‘C’ clear button followed by your new code. Rotate the lever fully (FIG 6) and the ‘A’ button will revert to normal position.
Note: If ‘A’ button does not return refer to point 5 and check the position of the indictors. If required reset all turning anti-clockwise as per FIG 3 and repeat steps.

  8. If EasyCode Function is required, replace retaining screw behind ‘A’ button, to prevent on-door code change. For QuickCode Function leave retaining screw out.

After Installation

  • A. Press ‘A’ button. If button will not depress, remove front plate from the door and follow code change sequence from bullet points 1-7.
    B. Press ‘A’ Button. If button will depress follow the code change sequence from bullet point 3 -6. Please ensure the door is held in the open position until code sequence has been verified.

Maintenance

No maintenance of the working parts is necessary. DO NOT OIL. To maintain the finish the lock should be
cleaned regularly with a soft cloth. A silicone spray or similar, should be used to provide a protective film against grit and grime.

Guarantee

If any Codelocks mechanical lock should develop a fault, at any time due to manufacturing, just call the Codelocks helpline and arrange for it to be repaired free of charge.

Diagnostics

Use these simple guides to diagnose any issues you may have whilst fitting the lock.

  1. On latch locks only. The outside knob and inside handle retract the latch when turned TOWARDS the door frame.
The spindle is positioned at the wrong angle.
Refer to the installation instructions. Remove lock from door and reposition the spindle as shown in the instructions. On hold open locks ensure that the blue handing screw on the lever handle plate is in the correct hole.

  2. The knob will not turn after entering the original code.
The code does not match the card.
Remove the lock and ensure the outward facing indicators correspond with the code. NB: The ‘C’ button MUST start every code.

  3. The knob will not turn after entering a newly changed code.
One or more of the code tumblers are the wrong way around.
Re-read the code change instructions and check the buttons are fully rotated and the indicators corresponding to your code are outward facing.

  4. The latchbolt does not move smoothly in and out.
    The lock is installed incorrectly.
Check that the lock is square on the door and positioned accurately over the latch. Check that the latch is positioned horizontally and parallel to the door surfaces.

  5. The inside and outside knobs do not return easily to the centre position after use.
The spindle is too long for the door thickness.
The spindle must not project more than 30mm (1 3⁄16″) into the inside handle. If it does then it will be trapped between the front and back handles and prevent them moving easily. The spindle must be shortened.

  6. The inside handle does not retract the latch. The spindle is too short for the door thickness.
The spindle must project from the inside face of the door by at least 8mm (5⁄16″) so as to engage the handle. The spindle may have been cut too short during installation. Call the helpline to obtain a longer spindle.

  7. The inside lever handle does not return to the upright position after operating.
The lever return spring is broken.
    Replacement spring required.

  8. The latch does not engage and so the door remains unlocked after use.
The latch is not entering the strike.

Your door or frame may have warped since the lock was installed. Check that the latchbolt is lined up with the strike aperture and adjust the position of the strike as necessary. Make sure the deadlocking plunger cannot enter the strike aperture alongside the latchbolt when the door is closed.
