they certainly cannot free users from shouldering their personal risk.
Attention: If these instructions for use are not carefully observed, the life
of persons may be at risk!
GENERAL SAFETY NOTES
Mountaineering, climbing and working at heights and in depths often entail hidden dangers and risks caused by external influences. Errors and carelessness may cause severe accidents, injury, and even death. If this product is combined with other components, these may mutually affect safety. Use only CE marked components of personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection against falling from a height. If original components of the product are modified or removed, the safety properties may be influenced adversely. The equipment should not be altered or remodelled or adjusted by use of additional parts in any way not specifically recommended by the manufacturer in writing. Before and after use, check the product for possible damage. Ensure fitness for use and correct function. If in doubt concerning the safety condition of the product, remove it from use immediately. In case of abuse and/or improper use, the manufacturer refuses any liability. In such cases, the responsibility and risk lie with the users or persons responsible for the operation. When using this product, we recommend additionally observing the applicable national rules. Personal protective equipment is exclusively designed for securing of persons.
PRODUCT SPECIFIC INFORMATION, FIGURE CAPTIONS
-
Correct operation of adjusting elements and buckles.
-
a + b Correct adjustment of the harness size. After the ribbons of the harness have been tightened, its hould be possible to push a flat hand underneath the ribbon.
2c On some harness models the adjusting range can be extended by removing the ribbons from the ribbon support. -
Upon purchasing or prior to initial use, correct fit and proper adjustment must be verified by a hang-intest in a safe place.
-
a + b Ensure correct positioning of the tie-in loop. The tie-in loop must not be twisted. Adjusting elements, tie-in point and connection knots must be checked frequently during use.
-
The figure-of-eight knot (double fisherman‘s knot) is recommended for roping up.
-
a Correct roping up directly by means of hip harness and thigh loop brace.
6b Correct roping up by means of tie-in ring.
6c Correct roping up with two kara biners with locks installed in identical orientation.
6d Correct roping up on hip harnesses with two symmetric tie-in points.
6e Correct roping up on full-body harnesses (type A) with two symmetric tie-in points.
6f Correct roping up on hip harnesses with transversal tie-in brace.
6g On securing harnesses with metallic D ring the harness may be fastened to the D-ring. -
a Faulty roping up at the hip harness only.
7b Faulty roping up at the the thigh loop only.
7c Equipment attachment loops must in no case be used as tie-in points.
7d Roping up at one tie-in point only on harnesses with two symmetric tie-in points may cause fatal accidents. -
a+b Full-body harnesses for children (type B) may only be used for persons of up to 40 kg total weight.
8c+d If the rear tie-in eyelet is used for roping up, the two front tie-in loops must be connected with a gate locked karabiner. -
a If the upper part of the body could tilt forward uncontrolled (especially when children or inexperienced users are roped up or when users wear heavy backpacks), a sit harness (type C) must be used only in connection with a chest harness (type D). You may use webbing with a minimum tensile strength of 15 kN (three marking stripes) to connect the chest (type D) and sit harness (type C). The lower knot should be positioned approximately on one level with the solar plexus.
9b Alternatively, the rope may be fed directly through the loops of the chest harness.
9c Do not use a chest harness (type D) without a sit harness (typ C). -
Securing devices or karabiners may be fastened directly to the tie-in loop.
-
Via ferrata sets or systems with tie-in loops are fastened to the tie-in ring with a choke hitch.
-
Equipment attachment loops are exclusively meant for transport of equipment weighing up to 5 kg.
-
a Load transmitting screwed joints must be checked regularly for correct assembly.
13b When fastening the SCREW-D ring and inspecting the PPE, be sure the the bolt on the ring is tightened to 4 Nm. -
If the abrasion protector of a tie-in point is worn out or if red fibres become visible on the abrasion protector, remove the harness from use.
-
a Harnesses may be washed with hand warm water and a mild soap. Upon washing rinse the harness in clear water. Standard disinfectants may be used, if needed.
15b Harnesses may be used in a temperature range between -35 °C and +55 °C. -
a Harnesses must not be washed in a washing machine.
16b Harnesses should not be dried by exposure to sunlight.
16c Harnesses should not be dried near or on top of radiators or similar heat sources.
16d Select cool, dry surroundings protected from direct UV radiation for storage, drying and transport of harnesses. -
The load-bearing structure of the harness – may not come in contact with acid, battery acid, aggressive substances or other chemicals – icing may reduce the loading strength – must not be marked in any way – must be protected from abrasion or sharp edges – must not be damaged or modified – must not be subjected to extreme heat or sparking – should be protected from sunlight
SERVICE LIFE AND REPLACEMENT
The service life of the product mainly depends on the type and frequency of use as well as on external influences. When approaching the durability limits or latest at the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use. Products made of synthetic fibres (Polyamid, Polyester, Dyneema®, Aramid, Vectran®) are subject to some aging even if not used; their service life especially depends on the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation and other climatic conditions they are exposed to. When approaching the durability limits or latest at the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use.
Maximum service life
with optimum storage conditions and without use: 14 years
Maximum useful life (commercial/non-commercial use) Providing proper use and
no detectable signs of wear showing as well as under optimum storage
conditions: 10 years
Frequent or extreme use
Frequent use or extremely high loading may subst ancially reduce the useful
life. Remove the product from service immediately if any of the following
applies – if webbing edges are damaged or individual fibres have been pulled
from the webbing – if visible signs of damage or abrasion show on seems – if
melting burns, decolouration or strong furryness of the webbing have occurred
– if the material has come in contact with chemicals or has been subjected to
a hard fall load (fall factor >1) – if webbing or slings have an integrated
wear indicator, the product must be replaced immediately if wear has exposed
the indicator (internal fabric of different colour has become visible),
continued use may cause fatal accidents.
Repairs may only be performed as outlined in the in structions of the manufacturer.
Inspection
In case of commercial use, the product must be inspected regularly or at least
once a year by the manufacturer, a qualified person or an approved inspection
body/agency; thereafter it may have to be serviced or removed from use.
