  • This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.

  • While operating the machine always wear safety shoes and long trousers. Do not operate the machine when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Avoid  wearing loose fitting clothes and ties.
  • Operate the machine only on a firm and level surface.
  • Do not operate the machine on a paved or gravel surface where ejected material could cause injury.
  • Before using, always inspect the machine to ensure that the shredding part, the bolts and other fasteners are secure, that the housing is undamaged and hat the guards and screens are in place. Replace unreadable labels.
  • Before use check the supply and extension cord for signs of damage or wear. If the cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect the cord’s plug from the socket immediately. TOUCH THE CORD ONLY IF IT IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. Do not use the machine if the cord is damaged or worn.
  • Never operate the machine while other persons, especially children, or pets are nearby.

Operation

  • Before starting the machine, ensure that the feeding chamber is empty.

  • Keep your face and body away from the feed intake opening.

  • Keep your hands or any other part of your body or clothing at a safe distance from the feeding chamber, discharge chute, or any moving part.

  • Keep proper balance and footing at all times. Do not overreach. Never stand at a higher level than the base of the machine when feeding material into it.

  • Always stand clear of the discharge zone when operating this machine.

  • Ensure that the material that is fed into the machine does not include pieces of metal, rocks, bottles, cans or other foreign objects.

  • If the cutting mechanism strikes any foreign objects or if the machine should start making any unusual noise or vibration, immediately disconnect the machine from the power source and allow the machine to stop. Take the following steps before restarting and operating the machine:
    i) inspect for damage
    ii) replace or repair any damaged parts
    iii) check for loose parts and tighten if necessary.
    • Do not allow processed material to build up in the discharge zone, this may prevent proper discharge and can result in the ejection of material through the feed intake opening.

  • If the machine becomes clogged, turn off the machine and disconnect it from the power source before removing the obstructing material.

  • Never operate the machine with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices, for example debris collector in place.

  • Keep the power source free of debris and other accumulation of material to prevent damage to the power source or possible fire.

  • Do not transport the machine while it connected to a power source and running.

  • Stop the machine, remove the plug from the socket and make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop:
    – whenever you are not operating the machine,
    – before clearing blockages or unclogging the chute,
    – before checking, cleaning or working on the machine.

  • Do not tilt the machine while it is in operation.

Maintenance and storage

  • When the machine is stopped for servicing, inspection, or storage, or to change an accessory, turn off the machine, disconnect it from the power supply and make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Allow the machine to cool before making any inspections, adjustments, etc. Maintain the machine with care and keep it clean.
  • Store the machine in a dry place out of the reach of children.
  • Always allow the machine to cool before storing it.
  • When servicing the shredding part be aware that, even though the power source is switched off due to the interlock feature of the guard, the shredding part can still move.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts to ensure safety. Use only genuine replacement parts and accessories.
  • Never attempt to override the interlocked feature of the guard.
  • If a bag attachment is provided, make sure to switch off the machine before attaching or removing it.

Service

  • Have the machine serviced by a qualified service technician using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the machine is maintained.
  • If the power cord is damaged, do not use the machine. The cord must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons.
  • If the carbon brushes need to be replaced, have this done by a qualified repair technician (keep in mind that brushes must be replaced in pairs).
  • Switch off the power tool and disconnect it from the power supply if it is believed to be damaged. Afterwards, assign the power tool’s repair to a qualified service professional.

Recommendation

  • The machine should be supplied via a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA.

Reduction of noise and vibration emissions
To reduce the impact of noise and vibration emission, limit the time of operation, use low-vibration and low noise operating modes as well as wear personal protective equipment. Take the following points into account to minimise the vibration and noise exposure risks:

  • Only use the product as intended.
  • Ensure that the product is in good condition and well maintained.
  • Use correct attachments for the product and ensure they are in good condition.
  • Keep a tight grip on the handles and/or gripping surfaces.
  • Maintain this product in accordance with these instructions and keep it well lubricated (where appropriate).
  • Do not use the power tool for long periods of time. Take frequent breaks.

Residual risks
Even when operating the machine as intended and in accordance with the instructions that this manual contains, the following residual risks still remain:

  • Health issues resulting from prolonged exposure to the power tool’s vibrations. An example of such a health issue includes ‘‘whitefinger’’ disease. In order to reduce the risk of developing ‘‘whitefinger’’ disease, please wear gloves, keep your hands warm and take frequent breaks. If any of ‘‘whitefinger’’ symptoms appear, seek medical advice immediately. ‘‘Whitefinger’’ symptoms include: numbness, loss of feeling, tingling, pricking, pain, loss of strength, changes in skin colour or condition. These symptoms normally appear in the fingers, hands or wrists. The risk increases at low temperatures.
  • Injuries and damage to property due to broken cutting attachments or due to sudden impact of hidden hard objects.
  • Injury and property damage caused by flying objects.

A dditional safety instructions for the electric shredder

  • Only use the machine as intended.
  • Maintain the labels and nameplates on the machine in good condition. If they become worn or are unreadable, have them replaced.
  • Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves during operation.
  • Longer material standing out from the shredder could be ejected out when being pulled in by the blades.
  • Ensure the ventilation holes are not obstructed.
  • Touch the moving parts only if the machine is turned off and disconnected from the power supply.
  • Do not use the machine outdoors in rainy weather, especially when there is a risk of lightning.

Warning: For safety reasons, the plug attached to this product must always be connected to an extension cord. The extension cord must be suitable for outdoor use with sockets protected against water splashes. Ensure the extension cord is of the proper size and type for the product (≥ 1.5mm2). Also, the cord should be rubber insulated, flexible, sheathed and made of polychloroprene (code designation (H05VV-F) and its length should more than 10m.

INTENDED USE

The product is intended for reducing biodegradable, garden organic waste materials to smaller pieces, such as leaves, small branches and grass, and is used in a stationary position by an operator standing on the ground.
This product is not intended for shredding pieces of metal, rocks, bottles, cans, etc. or soft waste such as kitchen rubbish.
It must not be used for any purposes other than those described.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Carefully remove the product and any accessories from the box.
  • Make sure that no parts are missing.
  • Inspect the product carefully to make sure that no breakage or damage of any sort occurred during shipping.
  • If any parts are damaged or missing, do not use the machine and contact the supplier.
  • Do not discard the packing material until you have carefully inspected and satisfactorily operated the product.

Warning: The equipment and packaging material are not toys. Do not let children play with plastic bags, foils, or small parts. These items can be swallowed and pose a suffocation risk!
Warning: To avoid injury from accidental starting of the machine, always ensure that the tool is switched OFF and unplugged from the power supply before making adjustments or installing or removing blades.

Installing the wheels

  1. Insert the wheel axle (Fig. 1 – 1) through the bottom holes of the stand.

  2. Install the wheels onto both ends of the wheel axle.
    Secure each wheel with a nut.

  3. Press the two wheel covers onto the both ends of the axle.

Assembling the stand

  1. Insert the two ends of the stand assembly into the bottom of the shredder housing (Fig. 1 – 2).
  2. Align the holes and secure the two screws on both sides of the stand (Fig. 1 – 3).

Fitting the paddle and paddle holder

  1. Clip the paddle holder (Fig. 2 – 1) onto one side of the stand.
  2. Clip the paddle (Fig. 2 – 2) into the paddle holder.
    NOTE: Place the paddle back into the paddle holder every time after using.

Connecting the extension cord

  1. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Select the correct extension cord.
  3. Make a knot with the power cord and the extension cord as shown in Fig. 3.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Warning: To prevent serious injury, make sure all the instructions have been read before operating the machine. Check that the power switch works properly before plugging the power cord plug into a socket.

Basic shredding operation

  1. Place the shredder on dry, level ground in the upright position. Do not operate the shredder if it is tilted or lying on its side.

  2. Check to make sure that the hopper is empty. Close the hopper tightly by turning the hopper lock knob (Fig 4 – 1) clockwise. The shredder will not run if the hopper is open or not fully closed.

  3. Feeding inappropriate materials into the shredder may damage the machine and cutting blades. Examine all materials before feeding them into the shredder:
    • Remove pieces of metal, rocks or other foreign objects that may damage the blades.
    • Do not feed wooden sticks with a diameter larger than 1.5 inches (3.81 cm).
    • Before shredding roots, remove any remaining soil and stones.
    • Do not shred soft, damp material such as kitchen waste.
    NOTE: For optimal performance, we recommend shredding materials with diameters smaller than 1 inch (2.54 cm).

  4. Connect the shredder to a power source and turn the power switch to the ON position (Fig. 4 – 2).

    Turn off the power switch and remove the safety key to engage the child safety lock and prevent accidental starting of the machine.
    The machine cannot be turned on when the safety key is removed.

  5. Follow the rules below when feeding materials:
    • Only insert as much material as needed to prevent blockage of the feeding chute.
    • Feed wilted and damp materials alternately with dry branches to prevent the
    cutting blades from blocking up.
    • Branches with leaves must be completely processed before new material is fed. Make sure that the chopped material can fall freely from the discharge chute.
    • Maintain the working speed of the shredder and do not overload it.
    • Keep a few dry branches to be shredded at the end, as they will help clean the shredder.

  6. Slowly insert the material to be shredded into the hopper through the feeding chute (Fig. 5). Keep hold of branches at a safe distance from the feeding chute until they are automatically drawn into the shredder.
    Warning: DO NOT put your hands into the feeding chute. Never reach under the hopper until the shredder has come to a complete stop and has been disconnected from the power supply.

  7. Use the included paddle to push the material inside the hopper, but be careful not to shred the paddle.

  8. Only switch off the shredder after all of the materials being shredded have passed through the discharge chutes. Otherwise, the discharge chutes may jam the next time the shredder is turned on.

  9. When all shredding work is complete, switch the machine to the OFF position and unplug the power cord. Wait for the blades to come to a complete stop before leaving the work area.

Overload protection
The electric shredder is equipped with overload protection. If the shredder is clogged while shredding, the overload protection will cut the power automatically to protect the shredder. Wait at least 1 minute for the motor to cool down before restarting the unit.

  1. To restart the shredder, first press the reset button (Fig. 4 – 1). Then turn the power switch to the on position.
  2. If the shredder will not start, the inside parts may be jammed. Turn off the machine and unplug the power cord from the socket. Wait for the blades to come to a complete stop before attempting to clear the materials clogging the machine.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Warning: Before performing any cleaning or maintenance, disconnect the unit from the power supply. Never touch the moving blades.
Wear protective gloves.
Maintain this product regularly and carefully. If the product is improperly maintained, it may fail at its intended task, which may produce fatal consequences.

Warning:

  1. Keep the product clean. Remove debris from it after each use and before storage.
  2. Regular and proper cleaning will help ensure safe use and prolong the life of the product.
  3. Inspect the product before each use for worn and damaged parts. Do not operate it if you find broken and worn parts.
    Warning: Disconnect the machine from the power supply before maintenance.
    Warning: Only perform cleaning and maintenance work according to these instructions. If further works are required, they must be performed by a qualified specialist, using only genuine and approved spare parts for replacement.

Replacement of the cutting blades
The electric shredder features two cutting blades that can be reversed or replaced to keep the cutting edges sharp. The two blades should always be reversed or replaced at the same time.
It is recommended to replace/reverse the blades when the wood sticks can not be automatically drawn into the shredder after entering the hopper. One set of sharp edges can cut approximately 400 lbs (181 kg) of materials, depending on the hardness of the sticks.
When the cutting capacity is reached, make sure to replace/reverse the shredder blades to maintain optimal performance.
Warning: Wear protective gloves to protect your hands. The blades are sharp and fragile. Handle the blades carefully to avoid personal injury or causing damage to the blades.

  1. Switch off the shredder and disconnect it from the power supply. Wait for the blades to come to a complete stop.
  2. Fully unscrew the hopper locking knob (Fig. 4 – 1) until it springs out. Open the hopper to access the cutting head (Fig. 5).
  3. Remove all wood chips or foreign matter sticking to the cutting head and blades using a soft brush.
  4. Rotate the cutting head so that it appears as shown in Fig. 5. To prevent the cutting head from rotating during blade change, insert a rod through the blade guard hole (Fig. 5 – 1) and the slot in the cutting head.
  5. WARNING: The cutting blades have sharp cutting edges on both sides. Make sure to wear work gloves to prevent injuries.
  6. Each blade is secured with two hex bolts (Fig. 5 – 2). Remove the blade from the inner edge of the blade guard where both hex bolts can be accessed.
  7. Unscrew the hex bolts counterclockwise using a hex wrench and remove the blade.
  8. Turn the cutting head 180 degrees to remove the other blade.
  9. The blades may be reversed when one of the cutting edges becomes loses its sharpness or becomes damaged. Reverse the direction of the original blades, or install two new blades. Make sure to reverse or replace both blades at the same time. Align the slots on the blade with the grooves on the cutting head.
  10. Secure each blade with two hex bolts and firmly tighten using a hex wrench.
    Close the hopper and fully tighten the hopper locking knob.

Replacement of the carbon brushes
To maintain maximum efficiency of the motor, inspect the carbon brushes regularly and replace them when the length of the brushes shorten to 3/16 of an inch (0.47 cm). The two carbon brushes can be accessed through the front and back carbon brush covers located on the bottom of the shredder body. To inspect or replace the carbon brushes:

  1. Switch off the machine and disconnect the shredder from the power supply.
  2. Unscrew the Phillips head screw from the housing and open the carbon brush cover (Fig. 6).
  3. Unscrew the two small Phillips screws inside (Fig. 6) to remove the carbon brushes.
  4. Replace the carbon brush holder and carbon brush cover. Tighten all screws.
  5. Repeat the steps above to replace the carbon brush located on the other side of the motor.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Warning: Always switch the machine off, disconnect it from the power supply and let it cool down before performing inspection, maintenance and cleaning work.

  • Use a small brush to clean the outside of the unit. Do not use strong detergents. Household cleaners that contain aromatic oils such as pine and lemon, and solvents such as kerosene, can damage plastic.
  • Wipe off any moisture with a soft cloth.
  • Inspect the product before and after each use for worn and damaged parts. Do not operate it if you find worn and damaged parts.
    Note: If the cutting blade is blocked by foreign objects during operation, switch the machine off, wait until the cutting blade stops moving completely, remove the foreign objects and then clean the cutting blade.

TRANSPORT

  • Clean the product as described above.
  • Ensure that the machine is protected from any heavy impacts or strong vibrations which may occur during transportation in vehicles.
  • Secure the machine to prevent it from slipping or falling over.

STORAGE

  • Clean the product as described above.
  • Store the machine and its accessories in a dark, dry, frost-free, well-ventilated place.
  • Always store the product in a place that is inaccessible to children. The ideal storage temperature is between 10 °C and 30 °C.
  • We recommend using the original package for storage or covering the product with a suitable cloth to protect it against dust.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem Possible causes Solution

Open the hopper and remove the materials jamming the
machine.

Open the hopper and blade cover. Remove the material blocking the blade. Close the blade cover and hopper.
3. Turn off the machine and unplug it from the socket.
Open the hopper and the plate of the discharge chute to clear the blocked material. Replace the plate and hopper.

ENVIRONMENTAL DISPOSAL

In order to avoid damages on transportation, the tool has to be delivered in solid packaging. Packaging as well as the unit and accessories are made of recyclable materials and can be disposed accordingly. The tool’s plastics components are marked according to their material, which makes it possible to remove environmental friendly and differentiated because of available collection facilities.

In observance of European Directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its implementation in accordance with national law, electric tools that have reached the end of their life must be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility.

The power tools have been manufactured according to strict standards, set by our company, which are aligned with the respective European quality standards. The power tools of our company are provided with a warranty period of 24 months for non-professional use, 12 months for professional use and 12 months for bafieries and chargers. The warranty is valid from the date of purchase of the product. Proof of the warranty right is the purchase document of the tool (retail receipt or invoice). Under no circumstances shall the company cover the relevant cost of spare parts and respective required working hours unless a copy of the purchase document is presented. In case the repair has to be done by our service department the cost of transpor-tafion (to and from) is enti rely borne by the sender (client). The tools must be sent for repair to the company or to an authorized workshop in the appropriate way and means of transport.

WARRANTY EXEMPTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS:

  1. Spare parts that wear out naturally as a consequence of being used (brushes, cables, switches, chargers, chokes etc.).
  2. Tools damaged as a result of non-compliance with the instructions of the manufacturer.
  3. Tools poorly maintained.
  4. Use of improper lubricants or accessories.
  5. Tools given to third entities free of charge.
  6. Damage due to an electrical connection at a voltage other than that indicated on the appliance plate.
  7. Connection to a non-earthed power supply.
  8. Change in current voltage.
  9. Damage resulting from the use of salty water (e.g., washing machines, pumps).
  10. Damage or malfunction resulting from improper cleaning procedure of the tool.
  11. Contact of the tool with chemicals, or damage as a result of moisture or corrosion.
  12. Tools that have been modifi ed or opened by unauthorized personnel.
  13. Tools used for rent.

The warranty covers only the free of charge replacement of the component that presents a manufacturing defect or material failure. In case of lack of a specifi c spare part the company reserves the right to replace the tool with another corresponding model. Atier all warranty procedures have been concluded, the warranty period of the tool shall not be extended or renewed. The spare parts or tools that are replaced remain in the possession of our company. Requirements, other than those mentioned in this warranty form, regarding power tools repair or damage thereof, do not apply. Greek law and relative regulations apply to this warranty.

WARRANTY
This appliance is a quality product. It was designed in compliance with current technical standards and made carefully using normal, good quality materials. The warranty period is 24 months for non-professional use and 12 months for professional use and commences on the date of purchase, which can be verified by the receipt, invoice or delivery note. During this warranty period all func-tional errors, which, despite the careful treatment described in our operating manual, are verifiably due to material flaws, will be rectified by our after-sales service staff. The warranty takes the form that defective parts will be repaired or replaced with perfect parts free of charge at our discretion. Replaced parts will become our property. Repair work or the replacement of individual parts will not extend the warranty period not will it result in a new warranty period be-ing commenced for the appliance. No separate warranty period will commence for spare parts that may be ted. We cannot offer a warranty for damage and defects on appliances or their parts caused by the use of excessive force, im-proper treatment and servicing. This also applies for failures to comply with the operating manual and the installation or spare and accessory parts that are not included in our range of products. In the event of interference with of modifica-tions to the appliance by unauthorized persons, the warranty will be rendered void. Damages that are attributable to improper handling, over loading, or nat-ural wear and tear are excluded from the guarantee. Damages caused by the manufacturer or by a material defect will be corrected at no charge by repair or by providing spare parts. The prerequisite is that the equipment is handed over assembled, and complete with the proof of sale and guarantee. For a guar-antee claim, only use the original packaging. That way, we can guarantee quick and smooth guarantee processing. Please send us the appliances post-paid or request a Freeway sticker. Unfortunately we will be unable to accept appliances that are not postpaid. The warranty does not cover g that are subject to nat-ural wear and tear.
