Safety Instructions
Before using the appliance, read the instruction manual completely to ensure safety and proper usage. The manual includes important tips for safety and appliance use. If the instruction manual is not heeded, there can be injuries to people or damage to the appliance. Connecting the appliance safely
Since the appliance is operated with an electrical current, there is a danger of electric shock. Therefore:

  • Only connect and start up the vacuum cleaner according to the details on the nameplate (underside of the appliance).

  • Check the appliance and power cable for possible damage before use. Never operate a defective appliance or an appliance with a defective power cable.

  • Never try to repair the appliance or its power cable yourself. To prevent hazards, repairs to the appliance and the power cable may only be made by our customer service. Give a defective appliance to a dealer or make contact with SEVERIN customer service.

  • Do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids or treat it with liq-uids. Do not operate the appliance outdoors or in rooms with high humidity. Do not handle the plug with wet hands.

  • Make sure that the power cable is not kinked, crushed or run over and that it does not come into contact with sources of heat, humidity and sharp edges. Make sure that the power cable does not become a stumbling hazard.

  • Do not pull or transport the appliance using the power cable. When unplugging the plug from the outlet, always pull directly on the plug.

  • If possible, do not use an extension cable. If this is unavoidable, only use GS-tested, simple extension cables (no multi-outlet adapters) that are designed for the appliance’s power consumption.

  • Before cleaning or maintaining the appliance, as well as before changing accessories, switch off the appliance and unplug the plug from the outlet.
    Safety of particular groups of people

  • This appliance may only be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities or a lack of experience and/or knowledge when they are supervised or if they have been instructed about the safe use of the appliance and have understood the risks resulting from the use of the appliance.

  • Children may not play with the appliance or stand or sit on the appli-ance. Cleaning and user maintenance may not be performed by chil-dren without supervision.

  • Keep children younger than 8 away from the appliance and power cable.

  • Keep packaging materials out of the reach of children and dispose of them. Otherwise, they present a suffocation risk.

Intended use
The appliance may only be used in households. Only vacuum dry, nor-mally- soiled floors or, depending on the accessories, also furniture and upholstery. Any other use is improper and is forbidden.
In order to prevent injuries, fires and damage, the appliance may not be used to vacuum:

  • People, animals and plants. Always keep nozzles and vacuum open-ings away from all body parts, hair and clothing. Do not vacuum near your head.
  • Glowing or burning particles (such as ash, coals, charcoal, cigarettes, matches).
  • Explosively or flammable materials or toner.
  • Water and other liquids, e.g. damp carpet cleaners.
  • Pointy objects such as glass splinters, needles or construction waste.

Product Usage Instructions

Usage

Montieren und Staubsaugen:

  1. Place the dust bag in the vacuum cleaner.
  2. Plug in the vacuum cleaner.
  3. To adjust the suction power, turn the power regulator knob to the desired setting (min or max).
  4. Clean or replace the filter as needed. Refer to the instruction manual for details.

Saugleistung einstellen:
The power regulator is adjustable. Adjust the power regulator according to the surface being cleaned.

Assembly and changing of accessories

  • Only attach appliance parts when the plug has been disconnected from the mains socket.
  • Only use undamaged nozzles. Damaged nozzles can scratch surfaces. For additional tips regarding assembly and changing of accessories, see also illustrated Quick Start Guide.

Vacuuming

  • Especially when vacuuming stairs, make sure that you are always above the appliance. Otherwise, the appliance may fall down and cause injuries.
  • Only use the appliance with a dust bag and the filters. If there is no dust bag, the appliance cover will not close.
  • Follow the cleaning and maintenance instructions of the floor covering, carpet or furniture manufacturer!
  • When pulling in the power cable, hold the plug in your hand and slide it in the direction in which the cable is winding. Otherwise, the power cable can whip around, injure persons nearby, become a stumbling hazard or take objects along with it.

Adjusting the suction power

You may steplessly adjust suction power via the power regulator. You should adjust the power regulator position with respect to the floor to be cleaned:

  • Maximum power: for hard floors with crevices, heavily soiled carpets
  • High power: for carpets, rugs and the like
  • Moderate power: for upholstery and mattresses
  • Minimum power: for curtains, drapes and the like

Maintaining and Cleaning the Appliance

Staubbeutel wechseln:

  1. Purchase a Severin dust bag set (4 dust bags + 1 motor protection filter) with article number SB7218 or Swirl Y101 MicroPor Plus.
  2. Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner.
  3. Open the dust bag compartment and remove the used dust bag.
  4. Insert the new dust bag into the compartment and close the compartment.

Filter reinigen oder ersetzen:
Clean or replace the filter as needed. Refer to the instruction manual for details.

Changing the dust bag

  • Before changing the dust bag, switch off the appliance and disconnect the plug from the mains socket.
  • Change the dust bag when the dust bag change indicator appears in the inspection glass, the vacuuming performance declines notably, before long storage or before shipping.
  • The dust bag and its contents can be disposed of in normal household garbage unless it contains dirt that is forbidden in household garbage.

Cleaning or replacing the filter
  • Before changing or cleaning the filter, switch the appliance off and disconnect the plug from the main socket.

  • The motor filter can be washed, however, it cannot be washed in the dishwasher or washing machine.

  • Rinse the motor filter out thoroughly under running water (illustrated Quick Start Guide, detail ).
    Let the motor filter dry for approx. 24 hours at room temperature after cleaning.
    Only insert the motor filter when it is completely dry.

  • To clean the exhaust filter, first knock the dust out of it then brush with a soft brush.

Cleaning

  • Before cleaning, switch off the appliance and disconnect the plug from the mains socket.
  • The housing and power cable may not be handled with liquids or immersed in liquids for reasons of electrical safety. Rub the housing with a slightly damp cloth and then dry.
  • For cleaning, do not use any sharp or scouring cleansers or hard brushes.

Troubleshooting by yourself

So that as few problems as possible arise, it is important to change the dust bag regularly and take this opportunity to check the filters and clean them if they are dirty.
Before contacting our customer service, check with the help of below table whether you can correct the problem yourself.

The appliance stops sud- denly| The integrated overheating protection has tripped (possibly due to a full dust bag or the like)

In this case, clear the problem as follows:

1.     Switch off the appliance.

2.     Pull plug from mains socket.

3.     Remove the cause of overheating (either by replacing the dust bag wpage 15, “Changing the dust bag”, cleaning the filters

w page 15, “Cleaning or replacing the filter” or disassembling telescopic tube and suction hose to remove blockages that might have built up).

4.     Be sure to also check hose, nozzles and telescopic tube when searching for the cause of overheating.

5.     Close the lid and re-fit all accessory.

6.     Wait another 45 minutes.

After the appliance has cooled off, you may switch it on again.

Problem Solution

Attached nozzle is unsuitable for the floor to be cleaned.

Change the nozzle, wpage 14, “Assembly and changing of acces- sories”.

With the switchable floor nozzle attached, the switch is not in a po- sition appropriate to the type of floor.

Adjust the position of the floor nozzle switch, wpage 14, “Assem- bly and changing of accessories”.

Suction power setting is possibly not appropriate to the type of floor.

Adjust suction power, wpage 14, “Adjusting the suction power”.

The cover can not be closed| This is a safety feature that should prevent the appliance from be- ing operated without a dust bag inserted.

Be sure to have the correct bag type inserted properly wpage 15, “Changing the dust bag”.

The dust bag is projecting and prevents the cover from closing.

Be sure to have the dust bag inserted fully wpage 15, “Changing the dust bag”.
