SEVERIN WK 3494 Electric Kettle
Product Information
The WK 3494 / WK 3498 electric kettle is a Severin product that is available in multiple languages including German, English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Polish, Greek, and Russian. The kettle has a water container with a lid-opening lever, handle, on/off switch with indicator light, power cord with plug, base, pouring spout with strainer. The appliance must be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations and the supply voltage should correspond to the voltage marked on the rating label. The kettle is compliant with all binding CE labeling directives and must be descaled at regular intervals to ensure its longevity. The appliance is safe for use by children (at least 8 years of age) and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
Product Usage
- Before using the appliance, read the instructions carefully and keep the manual for future reference.
- Connect the appliance to an earthed socket installed in accordance with regulations.
- Ensure that the supply voltage corresponds to the voltage marked on the rating label.
- Fill the water container with water and place it on the base.
- Press the on/off switch to turn on the appliance. The indicator light will illuminate.
- The kettle will automatically turn off when the water reaches boiling point. Alternatively, you can turn off the kettle by pressing the on/off switch.
- When cleaning the appliance, ensure that it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- Do not clean the kettle and the base with water or immerse them in water. Clean the water container with a damp cloth as necessary.
- Descaling the appliance at regular intervals is necessary to ensure its longevity. Detailed information on cleaning the appliance can be found in the section Cleaning and care.
- Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance or carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.
- Check the main body of the appliance including the power cord and any attachment fitted thoroughly for any defects before every use. Should the appliance have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.

Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep
this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons
familiar with these instructions.
Connection to the mains supply
The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in
accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds
with the voltage marked on the rating label. This product complies with all
binding CE labelling directives.

Important
- In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix).
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the kettle and the base with water and do not immerse them in water. Do not clean under running water.
- The appliance must be descaled at regular intervals. Clean the water container as necessary with a damp cloth.

- This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
- Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
- Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised ∙ The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.
- This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as
- in kitchens used by employees in shops, offices and similar work environments,
- in agricultural working environments,
- by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar establishments,
- in bed-and breakfast type environments.
- The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some time afterwards.
- Do not leave the water kettle unattended during operation. Use only pure water when filling the container to the desired level, observing the Min. (0.5 l) and Max. (1.5 l) markings. Overfilling the container may cause danger from boiling water being forced out.
- Also beware of the danger of scalding from hot steam being emitted. Therefore, do not touch any parts of the appliance except the handle during use.
- Caution! During the boiling process and when pouring out hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times.
- The kettle may only be operated with the base provided with the appliance.
- Never remove the water container from the base (or replace it) while the appliance is switched on.
- Warning! The electrical contact on the base must be protected from splashing water and overflowing water.
- Warning! Misuse of the appliance can lead to injuries.
- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.
- Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
- The appliance must be used only on a heat-resistant, level surface.
- Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath.
- Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to come into contact with open flames or any hot surfaces such as hot-plates.
- Do not let the power cord hang free, and keep the cord well away from hot parts
- Always remove the plug from the wall socket,
- in case of any malfunction,
- after use,
- during cleaning.
- Do not take the power plug out of the socket by pulling on the power cord, but hold the power plug to take it out.
- Never touch the mains plug with wet hands.
- No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
Thermal safety cut-out
- The pre-set thermal safety cut-out protects the heating element from overheating should the appliance be erroneously switched on without any water, or if the heating plate is calcified. Once the safety cut-out has switched off the kettle, it must be allowed to cool down sufficiently, or must be descaled before it is switched on again.
Before using for the first time
- To clean the kettle, boil and discard the first filling of water.
Boiling water
- Remove the water container from its base.
- Press the lid-opener on the handle to open the lid, and fill the container with water to the desired level, observing the Min (0.5 l) and Max (1.5 l) markings.
- Close the lid and place the container back on its base.
- Insert the plug into a suitable wall socket and press the On/Off switch; the indicator light comes on.
- The boiling process begins. After reaching the boiling point, the appliance is automatically switched off by the integral steam cut-off device; the indicator light goes out.
- To interrupt the boiling process, set the On/Off switch to its Off position.
- To pour hot water, remove the container from its base.
- To prevent hot steam from being emitted, ensure that the lid remains closed while pouring out the water.
- Remove the plug from the wall outlet after use (the red indicator light goes out).
- Do not leave any residual water in the container.
Power cord wind-up storage
- The wind-up power cord storage under the base facilitates limiting the length of the power cord during use and makes it easy to store the appliance.
Descaling
- Depending on the water quality in your area, lime deposits may build up on the heating element. It is advisable to remove any such deposits at regular intervals.
- Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufficient descaling.
- A mixture of 0.5 litres of water and 40 ml of vinegar essence is suitable.
- Pour the descaler in.
- Switch the appliance on and let the solution reach boiling point. Leave it to take effect for a short period.
- To clean the container after descaling, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- During descaling, ensure sufficient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
- Do not pour descalers down enamel-coated sinks.
Sieve
- If necessary, the strainer can be removed from the spout for cleaning. Re-insert the strainer afterwards.
Cleaning and care
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the kettle and the base with water and do not immerse them in water. Do not clean under running water.
- For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth may be used.
- Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions, and do not use hard brushes for cleaning.
Disposal
- Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
