Vacuum bag sealer

Dear Customer,
Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.

Connection to the mains supply
Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label of the appliance. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Important safety instructions

  • In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).

  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.

  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it.

  • This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.

  • Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

  • Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised.

  • The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times. ∙ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of
    suffocation.

  • Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.

  • Caution: The cutter blade is extremely sharp.

  • Warning: Do not touch the sealing bar or silicone gasket. There is a danger of burns.

  • Do not attempt to remove liquid of any kind by means of the suction function. Should this occur, press the Stop button immediately

  • Always remove the plug from the wall socket

    • in case of any malfunction,
    • after use, and also
    • before cleaning the appliance
  • When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.

  • Do not allow the housing or the power cord to touch hot surfaces such as hotplates, or come into contact with any open heat sources.

  • No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.

  • This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as

  • in shops, offices and other similar working environments,

  • in agricultural working environments,

  • by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar establishments,

  • in bed-and breakfast type environments.

Intermittent operation

The appliance is designed for intermittent operation only, ie it must be allowed to cool down for around 30 seconds after each cycle, before it can be used again. Also, to prevent overheating, it must be allowed to cool down for two minutes after a total operating time of 10 minutes.

Using the cutter

  • To cut bags or film to the required size, fold out the cutter at the rear of the unit and slide the bag/film between the unit and the cutter. Close the cutter and pull the blade over the bag/film.
  • Caution: The cutter blade is extremely sharp

Use with bags

Preparing the bags

  • Put the prepared food into a bag, ensuring that the bag opening remains absolutely clean and dry.
    Hint: For easy, clean filling of the bags, turn down the rim around the opening a few cm. After filling, unroll the rim again.

  • Fill the bags only up to max. 5 cm below the opening.

  • If necessary, the food may be dabbed with a kitchen towel first to remove any residual liquid from the outside

Preparing for sealing

  • Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet.
  • Push the ‘Release cover’ buttons on the side to open the cover.
  • Lift up the cover.

Air extraction and sealing

  • Place the filled bag with its open end connecting with the two attachment points in the vacuum chamber Ensure that the suction opening is not blocked by the bag. The bag opening must be clean and free of any wrinkles or creases where it touches the sealing bar.
  • Fold the cover down.
  • Push the outer corners of the cover firmly down until it is heard locking into place on both sides. Press the Vacuum&Seal button. The LED Vacuum&Seal remains lit until vacuuming is complete.
  • Ensure that the vacuum pump does not suck in any liquid. But if it does, press the Stop button immediately.
  • Once all the air is extracted, the bag opening is automatically sealed. The Seal LED remains lit until the sealing process is complete.
  • Push the ‘Release cover’ buttons on the side to open the cover and remove the sealed bag.
  • Hint: Keep monitoring the extraction when processing delicate foods. Once the vacuum is sufficient, use the Stop button to interrupt the suction process. Then start the sealing process manually using the Seal button.

Sealing only:

  • Place the filled bag with its open end onto the sealing bar. The bag opening must be clean and free of any wrinkles or creases.
  • Pold the cover down.
  • Push the outer corners of the cover firmly down until it is heard locking into place on both sides.
  • Press the Seal button.
  • The bag opening is automatically sealed. The Seal LED remains lit until the sealing process is complete.
  • Push the ‘Release cover’ buttons on the side to open the cover and remove the sealed bag.

Hint: Should any residual liquid be found inside the sealed seam, wipe the seam dry and let it go through another sealing cycle. Caution: The bag opening must be absolutely dry, to guarantee a seal that is safe and airtight.

  • Disconnect the appliance from the mains.

Cable storage

The cable storage compartment in the base serves to store the cable, and to limit its length during use.

Cleaning and care

  • Before cleaning the appliance, always remove the plug from the wall outlet.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it.
  • The exterior of the housing may be cleaned with a damp, lint-free cloth.
  • To clean the vacuum chamber, sealing bar or silicone gasket of any persistent residues, allow the appliance to cool down first and then carefully remove the residues with a damp cloth.
  • Do not store the unit with its lid locked.

Replacement bags and film rolls
Any regular vacuum film bags or rolls with a knobbed surface structure may be used with this appliance. This type of surface allows optimum air extraction. The width of the bag/roll must not exceed 28 cm. Suitable replacement bags/rolls are available at household stores or may be obtained through SEVERIN Service, quoting article no. ZU 3613 (bags 16 x 25 cm), ZU 3614 (bags 20 x 30 cm) and ZU 3616 (film roll 20 x 600 cm).

Disposal

Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
