– Installation and Operating Instructions –
Battery-WSK
Leave this manual with party responsible for use and operation.
CAUTION! Risk of Cuts, Abrasions or Flying Debris. Wear protective gloves
and safety glasses during installation. Sheet metal edges are sharp.
Introduction
The BATTERY-WSK Kit will allow a qualified service technician to relocate the battery backup connection from inside the appliance to a more easily accessible location. This kit interfaces with Intellifire Touch® systems only.
Installation Precautions
The BATTERY-WSK Kit is tested and safe when installed in accordance with these instructions. It is your responsibility to read all instructions before starting installation and to follow these instructions carefully during installation.
Check Contents of Shipping Carton
Compare contents of carton in Figure 1 with the actual parts received.
CAUTION! Risk of Fire! Risk of Injury! DO NOT install damaged components.
Inspect components for damage.
Damaged components may impair safe operation.
All wiring should be done by a qualified electrician and shall be in compliance
with local codes and with the National Electric Code ANSI/NFGA No. 70- current
(in the United States), or with the current CSA C22.1 CANADIAN ELECTRIC CODE
(in Canada).
NOTICE: DO NOT connect 110-120 vac wiring to the gas control valve of this
appliance or to the wall switch for installation of this kit. Component damage
will occur.
Preparation
CAUTION! Risk of Burns! The fi replace should be turned off and cooled
before kit is installed.
- Shut off gas supply to appliance.
- Disconnect electrical power to appliance.
CAUTION! Risk of Shock!
- DO NOT provide power to appliance until all wiring is complete
- Component damage could occur
Install the Wall Switch

Determine a convenient location for the wall switch which will accommodate a 12’ maximum wire distance from the appliance, if using the wall switch wire included with this kit. If the included wire is not long enough for your application, it is allowable to use up to 40 feet of standard 3 conductor, 20 AWG minimum thermostat wire (purchased separately).

Install an approved low voltage electrical box.

Locate the wall switch wire from the kit. Prepare the low voltage wire ends that will connect to the ECM wire harness by crimping three terminals to it as shown in Figure 2 wiring diagram.

Remove the decorative barrier front if previously installed, and gain access to the ECM wire harness.

Insert the end of the low voltage wire with crimped terminals into the base of the appliance and connect it to the appropriate terminals on the ECM harness as shown in Figure 2.

Route the wire to the wall switch box. Cut to the appropriate length and crimp the appropriate terminals to the three wires as indicated in Figure 2 wiring diagram.

Make the remaining connections to the wall switch components as noted in Figure 2.
CAUTION! Risk of Overheating! Risk of Fire! Wall switch must be in OFF position prior to supplying power to the appliance. Unintentional startup of appliance could cause overheating and a fi re. -
Install the wall switch components into the wall box.

Turn on gas supply to appliance.

Reinstall the decorative front.

Ensure wall switch is in the OFF position and reconnect the power supply.
Testing and Operation
- Light the burner by following the lighting instructions on the lighting card included with the appliance. The gas lighting instructions are also available in the appliance Owner’s manual.
- Use the wall switch to turn on the appliance and test for proper operation.
- If desired, test the battery backup system as instructed in next section.
NOTICE: Remove batteries from battery backup when not in use. Batteries tend to corrode over time.
Battery Backup Test (Optional)
- Disconnect main power supply to the appliance in order to simulate a power outage.
- Install 4 AA batteries in the USB-C battery holder.
- Plug the USB-C battery holder into the USB-C port on the wall switch plate.
- Turn the rocker switch ON to power the appliance ON, and OFF to shut it OFF.
- If the switch does not turn the appliance ON or OFF, check the battery condition and/or the electrical connections per the wiring diagram.
- The appliance remote control (if equipped) can also be used to turn the appliance ON and OFF when in battery backup mode.
- When the test is complete, restore the power supply.
- Remove the USB-C battery holder and the batteries, and store them for future use during a power outage event.
Battery Backup Operation – Power Outage
- In the event of a power outage, locate the USB-C battery holder and install 4 AA batteries.
- Plug the USB-C battery holder into the port on the wall switch plate.
- Use the wall switch or the appliance remote control (if equipped) to turn the appliance ON and OFF when in battery backup mode.
- When main power is restored after the outage, remove the USB-C battery holder and the batteries, and store them for future use during a power outage event.
Note: The battery backup system works with the included 6V AA battery
pack and may also work with other common 5V DC battery sources such as
portable rechargeable power packs for cell phones, USB charging ports on
laptop computers, and other USB power banks.
Portable power packs come in a variety of capacities and may have an automatic
shut-off feature, so the length of run time and ability to sustain power to the
appliance will vary. Check the operation of your particular alternative power
source before relying on it during a power outage. Keep the included AA
battery pack in a location that is easily accessible.
