USE

DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL UNIT

  1. Signal indicator
The pointer moves to the right when metal is detected.

  2. Power switch/volume control
Used to switch on/switch off the product and to set the volume. Turn clockwise (away from OFF) to start the product. Continue turning clockwise to increase the volume. Turn anticlockwise all the way to switch off the product.

  3. SENS (sensitivity)

    • Adjusting the sensitivity Turn the SENS control clockwise to increase sensitivity. A high sensitivity should normally be selected.
    • In mineral rich areas, or areas with electrical interference, a lower level can be more effective.
  4. Earphone jack
Connect stereo earphones with 3.5 mm plug to the earphone jack. The internal speaker is deactivated.

  5. Mode selector

    • DISC (discrimination). This mode is used to search for and differentiate between different metals.
    • ALL METAL (metal indication). Used for searching for all metals. In this mode the product has automatic ground balancing, but no discrimination.
    • TONE (sound setting). Set with the DISC/ TONE control. The product emits signals with different pitches, depending of the type of metal.
  6. DISC/TONE control
Adjusting the discrimination. Turn clockwise from low to high mode for more discrimination or elimination of unwanted metals. In TONE mode the type of metal is indicated with different pitches, depending on the setting.

  7. Battery indicator
Replace the battery when the battery indicator goes on.

HOW TO USE

  • The product has four operating modes: DISC, TONE, ALL METAL and PINPOINT. DISC, TONE and ALL METAL are motion-sensitive modes. The search coil must be in motion to detect an object. PINPOINT mode is a stationary mode.
Set the mode selector to ALL METAL and turn the SENS control to the highest level. Sweep the search coil over the ground from left to right.KAYOBA

Operating modes
  • ALL METAL
General search mode. Set the mode selector to ALL METAL. In this mode the product emits an audio signal when metal is detected, irrespective of the type of metal.

  • PINPOINT
When metal is detected in ALL METAL mode, press the red PINPOINT button on the handle to localise the object. Hold the search coil about 20 cm over the ground. Keep the PINPOINT button pressed. Sweep the search coil over the area where the audio signal was heard. Release the button when an audio signal is heard. Press the red button again after 1 to 2 seconds. The signal stops. Move the search coil closer to the area where the audio signal was heard, until the signal is heard again. Repeat these steps until the object is localised. When the object is localised, set DISC or TONE mode to identify the type of metal.

  • DISC

    • Set the mode selector to DISC. Turn the DISC/TONE control to the lowest setting. Slowly turn the control clockwise for a higher setting to ignore unwanted metals. At different settings the product ignores different metals. The product does not emit a signal on detection of ignored metals. In the highest setting most metals are ignored except silver.
    • Use the DISC control to determine which metal the object consists of.
    • The table below shows which metals are ignored for different settings of DISC.
Settings for the DISC control| Metal that is ignored
      ---|---
      Approx. 11| Iron
      Approx. 13| Nickel
      Approx. 15| Zinc
      Approx. 16| Copper
  • TONE

    • Set the mode selector to ALL METAL.
    • The product emits audio signals with different pitches in this mode, depending of the type of metal. If the detected object is a metal that is ignored, a signal with an alternating high and low pitch is given. The audio signals for metal objects that are ignored differ from the DISC mode. When the DISC/TONE control is set to the lowest mode a high audio signal is given for all metals.
    • When the control is midway a pulsating audio signal is given for iron, nickel, zinc and copper. When the control is set to the highest mode a low audio signal is given for iron, nickel, zinc and copper, but a high signal for silver.
    • Practice identifying different metals and objects.
    • The table below shows which metals are not detected for different settings of the DISC/TONE control.
Settings for the DISC/TONE control| Audio signal
      ---|---
      Approx. 11| Iron (low pitch)
      Approx. 13| Nickel (low pitch)
      Approx. 15| Zinc (low pitch)
      Approx. 16| Copper (low pitch)
      Highest setting| Silver (high)

TIPS FOR USES IN THE FIELD

  • Lower the SENS setting or move the search area if there is interference from electric cables, televisions, radios or other electrical devices in the search area.
  • Audio signals can be emitted when searching in mineral rich areas even if there are no metal objects. If this happens, try lowering the SENS setting and set a higher discrimination level, and hold the search coil so close to the ground that the signalling stops. To determine a suitable setting for the DISC control, place a metal object in mineral rich ground or wet sand and try different settings.
  • When searching in a rubbish tip, set the DISC control to the middle position so that the product ignores most worthless metal objects like nails, capsules, tins and small pieces of iron.
  • Remove all excavation tools made of metal during the search.
  • In PINPOINT mode the product detects all types of metal, which increases the risk of interference when searching for small metal objects near larger metal objects. Try moving away the large metal object, or move the search area.
  • Higher sensitivity gives lower discrimination. Lower the sensitivity for better discrimination.
  • Move the search coil horizontally and vertically in a crosswise pattern over the area where the audio signal was heard to localise the object precisely.

EARPHONE JACK
Connect stereo earphones (sold separately) with 3.5 mm plug to the earphone jack. The internal speaker is deactivated.

NOTE:

  • Set a low volume before you start to listen, otherwise there is a risk of hearing impairment.
  • Do not listen at extremely high volume. Prolonged exposure to high volume can cause a permanent hearing impairment.
  • Do not wear earphones when using the product in areas where there is traffic. Pay attention to traffic safety at all times.

MAINTENANCE

Follow the maintenance instructions for best functionality and life span.

  • Handle the product with care. The circuit board and casing can be damaged if it is dropped, which can lead to malfunctioning.
  • Do not use the product in extreme temperatures. Extreme temperatures can shorten the service-life of electronic appliances and damage the product casing.
  • Do not expose the product to dust or dirt, which can result in unnecessary wear.
  • Clean the product regularly with a damp cloth. Do not use strong chemicals, detergents or solvents.
