Pre installation
This Quick start guide contains everything you need to set up your PromethION™
2 Solo and to check that the device is ready for use.
Before using the device, familiarise yourself with the following:

PromethION 2 Solo
Installation guidance
- Check the GridION™ serial number on the label is GXB002 or above. or
- Check the computer you are using meets the IT requirements.
- Power on your GridION or computer.
- Update to the latest MinKNOW version compatible with the PromethION 2 Solo (available from community.nanoporetech.com/downloads) and click the Wheel iconon the desktop.
Tip: Follow the instructions in ‘Starting a sequencing run on PromethION 2 Solo’ at: community.nanoporetech.com/to/p2solo- start
Device setup GridION or computer
- Plug the AC power adapter into the mains supply and PromethI ON 2 Solo power port.
- Make sure there are no CTCs inserted into the PromethION 2 Solo.
- Plug the USB Type-C cable into the correct ports (see figure below). Toggle the power switch on the PromethION 2 Solo. Wait up to 60 seconds. The LEDs will light up when ready.
- Run a hardware check (Section 3) using MinKNOW.
Perform a hardware check
To ensure the device is working as expected, load your Configuration Test Cells and follow the workflow below to initiate the hardware check. On-screen instructions will guide you through the process.
Hardware check overview:
- Ensure CTCs are loaded into the PromethION 2 Solo Flow Cell positions.
- Wait until the flow cell positions initialise with a light and for the flow cell positions in MinKNOW to turn white.
- Press Select all available to turn the flow cell positions in Min KNOW blue.
- Press Start in the bottom right.
- Check the flow cell positions show a above the flow cell icon to pass the hardware check.
Update software
New software updates will be displayed automatically when opening MinKNOW.
You can also manually check and install updates following the workflow below.
Power off
- Remove the PromethION CTCs from the device.
- Toggle the power switch to the off position on the PromethION 2 Solo.

Storage and warranty
Do not expose device hardware to temperatures outside of the environment range
