FAQs

How do I know if the thermometer needs to be recalibrated?****

If the temperature is off by more than 2°F, the thermometer should be recalibrated. To recalibrate, remove the thermometer from the mounting bracket, and place it in a glass of ice water. Wait until the temperature stabilizes, then adjust the calibration screw on the back of the thermometer until it reads 32°F. Reinstall the thermometer in its mounting bracket.

How do I know if my thermometer is broken?****

If your thermometer is broken, you will be able to see cracks or breaks in the plastic housing. You will also notice that your temperature readings are inaccurate.

How accurate are indoor and outdoor thermometers?****

The accuracy rating of indoor-outdoor thermometers is usually listed within a range, just like the temperature & humidity sensor for the WS-2902C: Temperature Accuracy: ±2°F. Indoor and Outdoor Humidity Accuracy: ±5%

Where is the best place to put an indoor and outdoor thermometer?****

The shade of a tree and a north-facing porch are two good places. Place the thermometer four to six feet above the ground in an area where there is sufficient airflow. Finally, keep it protected from rain, snow, and ice.

Can you use an outdoor thermometer inside?****

Outdoor thermometers are almost always designed to work both indoors and outdoors, though they are much better suited to outdoor use than cheaper indoor thermometers. They are usually larger than any indoor thermometer for easier reading from inside your home.

What time of thermometer is most accurate?

The most accurate thermometers are first rectal, then oral. Generally, the farther you get outside the body, the less sensitive your reading will be.

Can an outdoor thermometer be wrong?****

There are several reasons thermometers can read outside a calibrated range, depending on the type of thermometer. General conditions: Exposure to temperatures outside the operating range – Damage can occur to internal components, causing erroneous readings if thermometers are exposed to extreme temperatures.

Which type of outdoor thermometer is most accurate?****

Digital or electronic thermometers are the most modern and accurate. Inside a remote sensor lies a thermoreceptor that alters its resistance according to the temperature. This information is then transmitted to a display for you to read.

How long does it take for the indoor thermometer to read?****

Digital thermometers may take longer than 30 seconds before beeping when using this method. Glass thermometers need to be held in place for 7 to 10 minutes. Remove the thermometer and read the temperature.

What is the range of an indoor thermometer?****

Temperature is measured over the range of -30 to 50°C, with an accuracy of ±1°C. Housed in a white ABS plastic case, the dimensions are 25 x 175mm. For the most accurate recording of ambient temperatures, the indoor thermometer should be positioned away from direct sunlight and draughts.

Should outdoor thermometers be in sun or shade?****

Air temperature is always measured in a shady location because in the shade the thermometer is measuring the actual air temperature and only the air temperature. A thermometer placed in the sun measures the temperature that the sun heats the thermometer to, not the true air temperature.

Does weather affect the thermometer?****

Direct sunlight, cold temperatures or a sweaty forehead can affect temperature readings
