Congratulations on your purchase of the ProMaster MPV+ Monopod. It is an excellent stabilizer for your camera and features a unique convertible design. You can use it with the 3-point base attached, or remove the base and convert it into a standard monopod. These instructions will help you properly use and adjust your MPV+ monopod for maximum benefit and enjoyment.

Adjusting the Height

You will find the MPV+ in its closed or ‘shortest’ position when you unpack it. Unfold all 3 legs of the 3-point base and you will see 3 black plastic levers near the base of the unit. These are referred to as ‘PROlocks’. You can flip open one, two, or all 3 of the PROlocks at one time using one hand while your other hand firmly grips the main column of the monopod. Once opened, you may pull the monopod column and extend it to the desired height. Close the PROlocks by flipping them back down into their original position. PROlocks can be operated in cold weather even with gloves on.
If you should find the MPV+ monopod’s height slipping during use it means one or more of the PROlocks is out of adjustment. Find the small allen wrench, which is included with your monopod. Use the wrench to slightly tighten the small silver bolt seen near the hinge of the loose PROlock. The PROlock lever must be in an open position while adjusting the bolt. The small side of the allen wrench will fit into the bolt from the underside of the PROlock lever. Only a small amount of adjustment is needed to tighten the PROlock. Do not over tighten the bolt! If you do, the PROlock may break when you close it.

Attaching a camera

The top platform of the MPV+ has a reversible screw in its center. Notice it is silver and has a slot which allows you to use a flathead screwdriver or small coin for tightening and loosening. This screw is 3/8” on its larger side and ¼-20” on its smaller side. Typically the small, ¼-20” side will be used to mount most cameras directly to the MPV+. However, if you prefer to mount a head to the MPV+ before attaching your camera you may need the 3/8” side of the screw. Refer to your head for the proper size.
Attach the MPV+ to your camera or head by aligning the platform screw with the bottom of the camera or head. Turn the monopod in a clockwise rotation to thread it into the camera or head until tight. Once a head has been mounted, you may further secure it to the MPV+ using the small, off-center locking bolt also found in the top platform. Use the included allen wrench to tighten this bolt from the underside of the platform until it has locked the head into place. Be sure to loosen this locking bolt before removing the head.

Using the 3-point base

The base of the MPV+ has a folding, removable 3-point system to give stability to your camera. Simply unfold each of the 3 legs until you hear a ‘click’ to indicate the leg has achieved its ‘open’ position. To fold-up the legs, slide the silver colored button on each leg toward the tip of the leg and fold the leg towards the monopod to achieve their ‘closed’ position.
A large tension control knob is located near the center of the 3-point base. It applies pressure to the ball joint in the 3-point base. Turn it counter- clockwise to loosen the base and allow the MPV+ to move and swivel freely. Turn the tension control knob clockwise to apply pressure to the ball joint until it is fully locked into position for the greatest stability. You may adjust this knob to control the tension and movement of the MPV+ monopod on its 3-point base.

Converting the MPV+ with and without the base

At the bottom of the 3-point base is a round, rubber foot. It is easily removed by turning it counter-clockwise. Next you can remove the 3-point base from the main column of the MPV+ monopod by grasping the base in one hand, holding the main tube of the monopod in your other hand and turning the base counter-clockwise. This is best accomplished when the 3 legs are folded out in their open position and the tension knob has tight pressure applied to the ball joint. The 3-point base will unthread from the bottom of the monopod column exposing a threaded hole. Place the rubber foot into this hole and turn it clockwise to tighten in place. You now have a single-foot, traditional- style monopod.
