GAS FITTING REGULATIONS
The installation of gas appliances is covered by gas fitting regulations in most States which specify that any gas appliance shall only be installed by authorized personnel. Installation by an unauthorized person is an offence under these regulations and could lead to cutting off of gas supply and prosecution.

LIGHTING
Please read carefully before attempting to light your fire for the first time.
Your fire is fitted with a safety gas tap, Piezo igniter, pilot, flame failure and oxygen depletion device. To turn the fire on, ensure that the gas supply is on, turn the gas knob to (),depress the gas knob and while still depressing the knob, push the Piezo igniter button until the pilot is alight. Keep the gas knob depressed for 20 seconds after the pilot has lit.(The first time that the unit is used it may take longer for the pilot to light as you will have to wait for gas to fill the line). Release the gas knob and check that the pilot stays alight. If it does not, repeat the above procedure. If the pilot does not stay alight contact the supplier. Once the pilot is alight you may turn the gas control knob to the high setting (7) . The fire will ignite from the pilot. If required you may now turn the gas control knob back to the pilot setting (). The fire will extinguish leaving only the pilot on. Take care not to turn the pilot off as well. A slight resistance is felt before the fully off position. If the pilot is turned off do not try to light it for about a minute as a safety interlock times until unit has cooled down.
It is advisable that if the fire is to be left for extended periods, the gas control knob should be turned back to the off setting. To relight, follow the procedure from the beginning.

PLEASE NOTE: do not operate your fire at the maximum setting for more than a few minutes in the first eight hours following installation. This will avoid thermal shock to the coals and burner surface. The new coals may give off a burnt odour during this period. Any minor surface cracking of the burner or the coals is normal and is not a cause for concern. If you think that the burner may have been damaged by misuse or accident at any time, please call your supplier/installer for service. Before removal of any part of the fire, ensure that the fire is cold.

SERVICE
The appliance should require little maintenance. Periodically check that the chimney is drawing properly and that no debris has fallen into the appliance. If the flames are very small or the pilot not functioning, it may be due to dirt in the lines, but this must be serviced by an authorized gas fitter.

THIS APPLIANCE REQUIRES FRESH AIR TO OPERATE SAFELY. THE ROOM WHERE THIS APPLIANCE IS INSTALLED MUST HAVE PERMANENT VENTILATION FROM OUTDOORS. THIS VENTILATION MUST NOT BE MODIFIED.

FITTING TO AN EXISTING OPEN FIREPLACE
If installing the Wonder ire Manual Valve (WMC) burner into an existing fireplace (without other options such as the Fan-Forced Convector Box), this is classed as a Type 1 appliance. If the WMC burner is fitted into a Fan- Forced Convector Box (FFB), please refer to the Installation and Operating Manual for the FFB as there are additional installation requirements. The fireplace enclosure must be fire resistive and must have a proved draught/working chimney. The chimney must be swept and inspected to see if it is in sound condition. The chimney must be a minimum area of 22,00Omm2 (i.e. a minimum of 150x150mm if square or 150mm diameter if round), and must extend to a height of at least 2.4m. The flue or chimney of an open gas fire must be kept clear at all times. Devices which close or temporally close the flue or chimney are not permitted. (e.g. a damper must be removed or secure- ly disabled in the fully open position.) If these conditions are met the chimney should usually provide satisfactory draw. In any event, the chimney and final installation must be tested for spillage into the room. This can be done by lighting a paper fire in the fireplace (before the appliance is installed) and holding a smoking twist of paper or a smoking match by the front of the fireplace. Air conditioning vents near the fireplace may also cause spillage. The fireplace must be at least 470mm wide (front), 325mm wide (rear) x 240mm Deep x 400mm high to suit the WMC burner. The room must have total fixed ventilation equal to the chimney / flue area.

Fitting the unit

  • The unit should be fixed to the base of the fireplace with a screw to each front corner of the burner

Gas

  • Gas connection is to a 4″ compression fitting connected to the RHS of the valve.
  • It is located 100mm from front, 45mm up tromp floor and 170mm in from front RH corner of the appliance
  • Thoroughly blow out the supply pipe to clear any dust and debris. Ensure all connections are gas tights.
  • Note: Do not bring the gas supply down the active chimney

Coals
The WONDERFIRE has ceramic coals and a burner designed to appear like a coal fire.

  • The unit is supplied with the ceramics assembled ready for operation.
  • When the unit is unpacked check that no damage has occurred in transport.
  • Carefully place the ceramic coal assembly on top of the burner making sure that it sits in place correctly.
  • No other coals should be added as this will adversely affect the performance of the fire.
  • Wash hands after handling the ceramic base or coal assembly.

Commissioning

  • Once the fire is fitted and connected to the gas, test the unit’s operation.
  • After 10 minutes operation from cold, test for fireplace spillage, i.e. all products of combustion are entering the flue, by traversing the perimeter of the opening or canopy. using a smoke generator (E.g. a smoking twist of paper or smoke match).

SERVICING DETAILS

  • The following notes are to assist a serviceman in the event of a malfunction.
  • Servicing must only be carried out by authorised personnel.
  • Spare parts and advice are available from Glen Dimplex on 1300 554 155.
  • See also the Fault Finding chart.

To Check Burner Pressure

  • Gas consumption is 35 MJ/hr – Natural Gas ONLY.
  • Appliance Test point pressures: High:Natural Gas 0.50 kPa
  • The burner pressure test point is on the valve to the left. The rear test point is the supply or inlet pressure and the front point is the appliance test point.
  • Remove test point plug and connect manometer. Switch the gas and appliance on. Take pressure reading once the unit is running and it should be within tolerance. Turn the unit and gas off, disconnect the manometer and replace the test point plug.
  • The pilot runs off the inlet pressure and needs a minimum of 1.135 Kpa to stay alight.

To Make Pressure Adjustments

  • The regulator adjusts the burner pressure. The adjusting screw is on the right hand side of the valve under the plastic front cover.

GAS CONTROL

  • The SIT gas control and valve is situated under the burner tray. To access; remove the coals and disconnect the gas supply. Remove the burner and place upside down on a flat surface covered with old newspaper.

BURNER

  • To access the burner remove the coals. The burner is glued in to the burner tray. Examine it for any damage and check the venturi at the rear for lint and dust. Carefully clean as required.
  • Ensure that the main injector is located centrally with respect to the venturi.
  • Minor cracking of the ceramics is normal and will not affect the operation of the appliance.

FAN (if the appliance is fitted in a FFB convector box)

  • To remove the fan, ensure that the fan has been unplugged from the power supply, unscrew the 4 screws holding the fan to the front of the fire box. Carefully lift the fan assembly forward.
  • The fan’s wiring diagram is located next to the terminal block. The fuse is a 1 amp fuse.

WARNING
Improper use of this gas fire could be hazardous to health. This fire is to be used either in a WONDERFIRE FFB convector box properly installed and flued in accordance with its instructions, or a non-combustible fireplace with the chimney or flue free of any obstruction or damper.
The fireplace, hearth, chimney, flue, canopy or any other part associated with the fireplace must conform with the relevant building regulations for domestic type solid fuel burning appliances.
We strongly recommend the use of an approved fireguard whenever young children or the infirm are in the presence of a working fire.
