Important Safety Information
Always read this manual before attempting to service the firebox. To
prevent personal injury or property damage, always comply with all warnings
and safety instructions contained in this manual.
Always use a qualified technician or service agency to repair this firebox. The following symbols are used throughout the manual:

Operation
The Dimplex Electric Fireplace comes with manual controls on the front panel and a multi-function IR remote control with a range of approximately 30 ft (9 m).
Touch Panel and Remote Controls
When not activated, the icons on the front panel are not visible. To activate
them, touch the control panel to the right side of the white line. The
selected setting displays on the left side of the panel.
The manual controls for the Dimplex Electric Fireplace are located on the front panel. When not activated, the icons are not visible. Touch the control panel to the right side of the white line to activate the icons. The selected setting displays on the left side of the panel. A multi-function IR (infrared) remote control also is provided. The remote control has a range of approximately 30 ft (9 m). To operate correctly, the remote control must be pointed toward the front of the in electric fireplace.
WARNING: The fireplace must be installed properly before use.
Demo Mode
Certain versions of this firebox are equipped with a demo mode where the unit
cycles through several functions. The demo mode is activated by pressing and
holding the tem-perature and brightness buttons for 2 seconds. In demo mode,
the display remains lit and none of the remote or on-unit controls work. When
power is cut to the unit and then restored, the unit remains in demo mode.
Resetting the Temperature Cutout Switch
Should the heater overheat, an automatic cutout will turn the heater off. It
will not come back on without being reset. To reset the cutout switch, unplug
the unit and wait 5 minutes before plugging it back in.

Product Usage Instructions
- Read the entire user manual before operating the fireplace.
- Ensure that the fireplace is installed properly before use.
- To turn the fireplace On, press the Power icon (A).
- If the flame effect was On, the flame will turn on and the previous heat setting will be activated (On or Off). The display will show the current heater temperature setting and after 2 sec displays the room temperature.
- To turn the heat On, press the Heat icon (B). The display will show the current heater temperature setting and after 2-sec display the room temperature. Use the Temp icon (C) to change the heater temperature setting.
- To turn the heat Off, press the Heat icon (B). After the heater is switched off, the fan will continue for 60 seconds before turning off.
- To raise the heater temperature in 1o F (1o C) increments, press the Temperature icon multiple times (C).
- To disable the heater, press and hold the Heat and Temp buttons at the same time for 2 seconds. Press and hold again for 2 seconds to enable the heater.
- To switch between o C and o F temperature displays, press and hold the Temp and Flame Speeds buttons on the unit.
- To toggle through flame speeds (minimum, medium, maximum), press the Flame Speed icon multiple times (D).

Accessing Top Components
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating before servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of the skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Unhook the front glass to remove it by pulling it up slightly and pulling it out. Set it aside in a safe place.
- Remove the firebox from the mantel by removing the retaining screws that secure the firebox to the mantel. These may be located on the inside of the firebox near the front, or behind the firebox if it is secured with L-brackets.
- Unfasten the top panel by removing the 12 screws lo-cated around the periphery of the top panel. There are 2 screws on each side, 3 on the back, and 5 at the very top, directly behind the front flange. Some units may have 6 screws on the top, totaling 13 screws. (Figure 1)
- Slide the top panel toward the back to release it.
- Carefully lay the firebox on its back and lay the top cover flat so that the attached components are accessible.
Accessing Bottom components
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating before servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of the skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.

Unhook the front glass to remove it by pulling it up slightly and pulling it out. Set it aside in a safe place.

Remove the firebox from the mantel by removing the retaining screws that secure the firebox to the mantel. These may be located on the inside of the firebox near the front, or behind the firebox, if it is secured with L- brackets.

Unfasten the bottom panel by removing the 11 screws located on the back and sides of the bottom panel. There are 3 screws on the back, and 4 screws on each side. Note that the two middle screws on each side are longer, and hold the media tray or log set in place. (Figure 2)
NOTE: When reinstalling the base panel, align the 2 middle screw holes on each side of the log set/media tray with the corresponding holes on the base panel to ensure that the log set or media tray is properly affixed. (Figure 5) -
Carefully lay the fireplace on its back.

Remove the bottom panel and set it aside.
NOTE: On the XHD28G, the media bed lights are attached to this bottom panel. You can disconnect these lights to have better access to the components in the firebox.
NOTE: The log set/media tray has a wire attached to the unit which can be temporarily disconnected for easier access.
Most components can now be accessed for service. However, if you wish to have further access to the components, complete the following steps. -
Remove the flame screen retaining brackets by removing the 2 screws on each side of the firebox that holds each bracket (4 screws total). (Figure 5)

Carefully slide the flame screen down toward the base of the firebox and set it aside during service.
NOTE: When reinserting the flame screen, ensure that the upper portion is inserted to the top.
Power Cord Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver Pliers 7mm Wrench
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating before servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.

Follow the instructions for accessing the top components on page 8.

Disconnect the wires from the power cord, noting their original locations. Use a wrench to remove the gold nut that secures the green grounding wire to the body of the firebox, along with the silver ring. Cut the cable ties as needed to remove the wires.

With pliers, grasp the power cord strain relief grommet from inside the back of the bottom panel and push while twisting to remove it.

Install the new power cord and reconnect the wires as before. Refer to the wiring diagram if needed. Ensure that they are secure and the wires cannot be pulled out of the wire connector.
WARNING: Ensure wires do not come in contact with moving parts by securing wires in cable ties or electrical tape. -
Reassemble the firebox.
Main Control Board Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver Pliers
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating before servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of the skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.

Follow the instructions for accessing the top components on page 8.
NOTE: It is recommended to take a picture of the wiring connections on the main control board before starting to ensure that all wires are reconnected to the correct place on the board. -
Disconnect all wire leading into the main control board. It may be helpful to use pliers to disconnect the flag connectors. Cut the cable ties as needed to remove the wires.

Using pliers, pinch each of the four plastic standoffs to depress the tabs while gently lifting the main control board to release it. (Figure 3)

Properly orient and install the new main control board.

Reconnect the wiring. Refer to the wiring diagram if needed.
WARNING: Ensure wires do not come in contact with moving parts by securing wires in cable ties or electrical tape. -
Reassemble the firebox.
Power Supply Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver Pliers
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.

Follow the instructions for accessing the top components.

Locate the power supply and disconnect the wiring connections, noting their original locations. Cut the cable ties as needed to remove the wires.

Remove the 4 screws that secure the power supply holder.
-
Properly orient and position the new power supply and secure it by screwing the power supply holder into its place.
-
Reconnect the wiring. Refer to the diagram if needed.
WARNING: Ensure wires do not come in contact with moving parts by securing wires in cable ties or electrical tape. -
Reassemble the firebox.
Heater Assembly Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver Pliers
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.

Follow the instructions for accessing the top components.
NOTE: It is recommended to take a picture of the wiring connections on the main control board and heater assembly prior to starting to ensure that all wires are reconnected to the correct place during service. -
Disconnect the wiring connections noting their original locations. There are 3 on the main control board, 2 wires on the blower motor, and one wire connected with a wire connector. Cut the cable ties as needed to remove the wires.

Remove the 4 screws that secure the heater assembly to the top panel. This must be done from the opposite side of the top panel. (Figure 5)

Properly orient and install the new heater assembly, and screw it into place.

Reconnect the wires. See the wiring diagram if needed.
WARNING: Ensure wires do not come in contact with moving parts by securing wires in cable ties or electrical tape. -
Reassemble the firebox.
Touchpad Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of the skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for accessing the top components.
- Locate and disconnect the connection from the touchpad to the main control board.
- Remove screws on either side of the touchpad to release it. (Figure 4)
- Properly orient the new touchpad and reinsert the screws.
- Reconnect the new touchpad.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Flicker Motor Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- Pliers
- Side cutters
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of the skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for accessing the bottom components.
- Remove the right side flicker rod retaining bracket by unscrewing the two corresponding screws on the back of the firebox. (Figure 5)
- Pull the flicker motor out from the rubber coupling attached to the flicker rod.
- Remove the two screws that affix the flicker motor to the bracket.
- Cut the five wires as close as possible to the flicker motor.
- Cut wire leads from the new flicker motor to 3 1/2 inches long.
- Using one of the supplied wire connectors, connect the yellow wire from the new flicker motor with the yellow wire cut from the old flicker motor.
- Secure the wire connector by crimping the 3M symbol with pliers. Pull on both wires to ensure a strong connection.
- Repeat the process for the 4 remaining wires, ensuring that all wires are paired by colour in each connector.
- Attach a new flicker motor to the retaining bracket.
- Insert stem from flicker rod into the rubber grommet.
- Reattach the flicker rod retaining bracket.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Flicker Rod Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of the skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for accessing the bottom components.
- Remove the left side flicker rod retaining bracket by unscrewing the two screws from the back of the firebox. (Figure 5)
- Pull the old flicker rod out from the rubber grommet.
- Insert new flicker rod.
- Place the bracket over the end of the new flicker rod and reaffix the bracket to the firebox.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Flame LED Strip Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for accessing the bottom components on pages 8-9.
- Locate the plastic LED holder bar and remove the screw on either side (2 total). (Figure 7
- Disconnect the wire(s) that are connected to the LED strip(s) on the LED holder. The LED holder can now be removed.
- Remove the 4 screws that secure the LED strip to the LED holder. (Figure 6)
- Install a new board by reinserting the screws and connecting the cable(s).
- Properly orient and install the LED holder, ensuring that the flame LEDs are facing the flicker rod.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Flame Base LED Strip Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead Screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for accessing the bottom components.
- Locate the plastic LED holder bar and remove the screw on either side (2 total). (Figure 7)
- Disconnect the two cables that lead to the LED strips.
- The LED holder can now be removed
- Release the LED strip from the clips: starting at one end of the LED strip, carefully place the head of the flathead screwdriver under the LED strip while gently pulling it up and out to release it from the clips on the LED holder.
- Snap the new LED strip into place and reconnect the cable. (Figure 6)
- Connect both cables. Properly orient and install the LED holder, ensuring that the flame base LEDs are toward the base of the firebox and the flame LEDs are facing the flicker rod.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Media Tray/Media LED Strip Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating before servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for removing the base panel
- Remove the 2 screws that secure the media LED lights and unplug the board.
- Align the new board, ensuring that the connector with the marking IN is oriented toward the right side so that the cable can be reconnected on the correct side. Ensure that the LED lights on the strip are facing the clear plastic face of the tray.
- Affix the LED strip to the media tray, ensuring that the plastic washers are placed between the LED strip and the screw.
Thermistor Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- Side cutters
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.

Follow the instructions for accessing the top components.

Locate and disconnect the thermistor connection on the main control board. Cut the cable tie as needed to remove the wire.

Connect the new thermistor to the same location.
WARNING: Ensure wires do not come in contact with moving parts by securing wires in cable ties or electrical tape. -
Drop the cable for the old thermistor, as well as the wire of the new thermistor down at the same location as the old thermistor, so that they will be accessible from the bottom.

Reassemble the top cover.

Follow the instructions for accessing the bottom components.

Snip the cable tie that affixes the thermistor to the firebox.
-
Affix the new thermistor to the firebox, using the provided cable tie.
-
Reassemble the firebox.
Flame Screen Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating prior to servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow steps 1-7 for accessing the bottom components
- Slide the new flame screen up, ensuring that the flame screen is fully inserted.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Log Set Replacement
- Tools Required: Phillips head screwdriver
- WARNING: If the firebox was operating before servicing, allow at least 10 minutes for the heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
WARNING:
Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance to reduce the risk of
electric shock or injury to persons.
- Follow the instructions for accessing the bottom components.
- Disconnect the cable from the log set by depressing the three tabs and pulling both ends away from each other.
- Connect the new cable, and orient the log set along the base of the fireplace.
- Reassemble the firebox.
Troubleshooting Guide
